The first time a 48Hour Film has ever won New Zealand's coveted Qantas Film and Television award. It won 2010's Best Short Film and Best Screenplay and was nominated for Best Actor. It was the first time a short film not funded by the New Zealand Film Commission has been awarded such an honor.
Immediately after winning the Qantas Film and TV award for Best Short, "Only Son" was picked up for distribution by the New Zealand Film Commission.
Was selected to go into competition at the 2010 Fantastic Fest Film Festival in Austin, Texas.
Actor Josh Thomson promised the writers that he could ride a motorcycle, thinking they would inevitably take the hard to get prop out of the script by the next morning (the film was made in two days). Unfortunately the producers managed to get in touch with NZ celebrity Damien Christie, who lent the production his brand new motorcycle, and Thomson had to quickly learn how to stay on the vehicle as a nervous Christie looked on.
Made as part of the New Zelaand V48HOURS film competition in 2010. Won awards for Best Script, Best in Auckland and the Grand National Winner. Conceived, written, shot, edited and mixed in under 48 hours.
