After the elder Mr. Finley and his son discuss their Christmas plans and the son leaves, the father spots some thank-you cards in among the books in the bookends beside the TV. He pulls them out and starts reading them, but when the camera flashes back to the TV, the cards are still beside the books.
16 minutes before the film's end, the elder Mr. Finley gives his son Jake a Bachmann "XL Express" H-O gauge toy train set. The father explains that the gift had been purchased 20 years earlier, before Jake's mother died, which would have been 1990. A large sticker on the toy train set reads "DVD format video instructions now included with this set." However, DVDs were not developed until 1995, and DVDs and DVD players were not available on the market until 1997.
