Nerdy sci-fi/fantasy

When 'Phineas and Ferb' first started to air, Disney Channel was nowhere near as good as it used to be and still isn't. Instead of the likes of the animated Disney shows of the 80s and 90s, most of it was and still is animated shows with childish humour and Disney Channel sitcoms and unfortunately it tended to not be the good ones. This continued throughout the whole of 'Phineas and Ferb's' run to the extent that this became one of the few shows airing on the Channel worth watching.

"Nerds of a Feather" is one of my favourite episodes of Season 2 and is absolutely wonderful. Wildly funny, very clever, affectionately nostalgic and there are not many 'Phineas and Ferb' episodes that did this kind of concept and in this way. 'Phineas and Ferb' does often revolve around a certain formula, that could have easily been repetitive quickly, but "Nerds of a Feather" felt very fresh and didn't feel formulaic at all.

Everything comes together beautifully. The animation is still wonderfully vibrant with very rich attention to detail. The music is dynamic with the action and the theme song is insanely catchy with very clever and quotable lyrics that anybody still in school fishing for how to spend their vacation will relate to. The voice acting has lost none of its zest or enthusiasm.

Furthermore, the writing is a triumph. The dialogue is sharp and intelligent, with plenty of laugh-out-loud lines and witty exchanges. Really did love how it poked fun at and what it had to say about sci-fi fantasy conventions and the fandoms, in a way that was insightful and never distasteful. Some of it is very frank but it does give a lot of food for thought. The gags are many and they are beautifully timed and never less than very amusing, all without being too manic or lacking in breathing space.

Concept was great and inventive on paper, the execution is even more so. "Nerds of a Feather" treats its setting with great affection and everybody involved were clearly having fun with it, the complete opposite of wasted. The character writing and interaction in all the subplots are ideally done, especially in the main one. Candace's subplot is a lot more interesting than it sounds on paper and part of it is down to what is said about conventions and fandoms. Doofenschmirtz is a lot of fun as usual, even if it is not one of his most inspired schemes.

Overall, wonderful. 10/10.

What's with the fifctional violence!?
ciarab-7629126 July 2019
Jeff and Dan tired hard to hid the violence of gang wars in this episode, but no matter how unrealistic it looks, we can still picture violence in real life gang fights. There's no need to scare them by using a hologram! The finkies and spacies were literally rioting over each other; trying to kill each other over famous movies! They've could've killed people ho aren't involved And who hates someone for saving them, just because they're a fan of a lame show! In real life, If this were more realistic, there would be more screaming, guns, knives, bloodshed, and death. If you see something like that, just call the police. They'll arrest them for incitement to violence. And a family guy actor was guest star of this crappy episode! It's as bad as that one with the brainwashing, nightmares, and a tyrant puppeting the innocent lives of children!
