One of the most popular reality shows in the mid-2000s was Beyond Scared Straight. The A&e series followed a bunch of delinquent teens who pride themselves on bad behavior. Their crimes range from theft, drugs, promiscuity, gang affiliation, violence, and arson. The reality series was highly praised by critics and even received a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Picture Editing for Nonfiction Programming. The show ultimately ran from 2011 – 2015 and featured over 300 teens in crime prevention programs in 29 prisons and jails across the county. Ashley Tropez was one of those profiled names. Ashley Tropez, who appeared in an episode of A&e‘s Beyond Scared Straight, was found dead in her home in Victorville, California. The police report listed her age as 24, though other sources claim she was 28. According to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, Tropez was found “suffering from traumatic injuries” by Victorville police deputies, who had responded to a report of a dead body inside a home on Friday, August 26. While details on how exactly Tropez died are still unclear, police have identified a 24-year-old suspect who is now in custody. It is believed that Tropez and the suspect knew each other and “may have been squatting at the residence.” Tropez appeared on the A&e reality show in 2011 when she was 17 years old (which would make her 28 as of 2022) for “fighting, getting in trouble and selling weed” and identifying as a gang member. The Emmy-nominated series chronicled “programs...

As if September hasn’t already been filled to the brim with incredible movies and shows, Netflix is bringing even more to you today in the largest content drop since the first of the month. With a handful of documentaries, a popular children’s flick, and new seasons of some great shows, there’s something for everyone on this exciting release day.
To begin with, The Smurfs 2 lands on the platform today, ensuring that any kids in the house are certain to sit still for a few hours. Plus, although the sequel is widely considered worse than the original and holds only a 14% on Rotten Tomatoes, you may find some harmless and inoffensive fun if you grew up watching the classic show.
Elsewhere, beloved series like Ancient Aliens and Pawn Stars are getting additional seasons today, too. The former is finally having its third season added, while the latter...

It’s time to look ahead at what’s coming to Netflix over the next seven days and what a big week it’s set to be for the streaming giant. As well as the usual assortment of newly licensed titles being added to the site’s library, there are a number of hotly anticipated original movies and TV shows due this week as well.
While nothing new arrives on Monday, Tuesday delivers 15 fresh titles for you to consume, ranging from the latest season of British period drama Call the Midwife to 2013’s The Smurfs 2. There’s also some great documentary content, including the second seasons of both America’s Book of Secrets and The Universe.
Wednesday then sees the first major original of the week hit Netflix – psychological thriller The Devil all the Time, starring a packed cast of A-Listers including Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson and Sebastian Stan.

There are slow months for streaming services and then there are “choose a decade-old Chris Nolan movie as a header image” slow months for streaming services. Amazon Prime’s August 2020 clearly falls into the latter camp.
That’s not to say that there aren’t some interesting options arriving this month. August 1 has a few intriguing movies including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Inception, Rain Man, and even Spider-Man 3. But there aren’t many Amazon originals to speak of. Chemical Hearts, starring Lili Reinhart (Riverdale) premieres on August 20. Then on August 28, subscribers can get a sneak peek at Amazon’s new The Boys after show Prime Rewind: Inside the Boys.
After that, however, it’s pretty much just Capone on August 10. And who could turn down watching Tom Hardy just being the Hardiest?

A&E's terrifying "Beyond Scared Straight" moves to a new night on Friday (Feb. 28) but packs the same terrifying punch with its heartbreaking (and heart-pounding) stories of juveniles struggling to stay on the right path.

Not too many shows over at A&E have come under our sci-fi/fantasy/horror/comics tent o’ coverage, with a few notable exceptions like the miniseries Stephen King’s Bag of Bones. Now, however, things are looking interesting over there, with the announcement that they’re developing a new series based on the French series Le Revenants, to be entitled The Returned.
Returned like The 4400? No. Returned like “from the dead.” But it isn’t a zombie show per se… Check out the press release for details. Word from many outlets including Deadline is that Carlton Cuse (Lost, The Strain) is in talks to executive produce, as he has been doing so successfully for A&E with Bates Motel. Here’s hoping that he’s on board, and that he can handle three shows successfully, since we also have high hopes for the Guillermo del Toro-penned The Strain as well.

Now here’s something for you to talk about, or maybe just ponder as you look around your Thanksgiving table: the first photo of Norman and Norma Bates from Carlton Cuse‘s Bates Motel series, set to premiere in 2013 on A&E. Gee, they don’t look that creepy. Yet. The house, on the other hand… definitely creepy.
That’s Freddie Highmore (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) playing Norman, and Vera Farmiga (Source Code) as his mum.
Psycho is apparently becoming quite the popular kid on the block, with this Friday’s premiere of Hitchcock, the story of the making of Psycho, starring Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren, and Bates Motel set as a prequel to Psycho. Given who’s involved in each production, we really can’t wait to see them both.

A&E has been good to me. They've provided tons of interesting shows to watch like Hoarders, Intervention, The First 48, Beyond Scared Straight, and several others. Basically it's my go to place for reality type programming. The only fictional drama I've watched that plays on the channel is CSI:miami. David f*cking Caruso. Love him. That show was originally broadcast on CBS, and now A&E shows all the reruns. A&E has had their own batch of original series like The Glades, and new...

Each year American Cinema Editors [1] (Ace) recognizes the best editing of the year in narrative film, documentary and television through the Eddie Awards. The nominations for achievement in 2011 have been released [2]. They include a couple of expected films such as Hugo and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and feature a couple other inclusions that might count as surprises to some. The full list is below. This list comes from the Ace press release about this year's Eddies. In this case, I like that there are feature film categories for dramatic and comedy/musical efforts; not that editing one or the other is more difficult, but editing is such a core component of comedy and musical films, and one that so often goes unheralded and even unexamined, that it deserves a moment in the sun. Looking at the documentary selections, I was at first disappointed not to see Senna included,...

hollywoodnews.com: The American Cinema Editors announced their nominations for the 62nd Annual Ace Eddie Awards Monday morning, recognizing outstanding editing in nine categories of film, television and documentaries.
Like the Golden Globes, the editors divide their films between “Dramatic” and “Comedic” categories, so its tough to peg how (or if) they play into the five Oscar nomination slots. At the very least, you can guess that the Academy’s five nominees will come from the five features listed below.
Winners will be revealed during Ace’s 62nd annual black-tie awards ceremony on Saturday, February 18, 2012 in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. As previously announced, the ceremony will be hosted by actor/comedian Patton Oswalt. Later this month Ace will announce the Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year honoree and two Career Achievement honorees.
