Marilyn Manson, the controversial schlock rocker, is to be the subject of a new documentary series.
British broadcaster Channel 4 has ordered three-part series Marilyn Manson: Behind The Mask (w/t) that is co-financed by Fifth Season, the company formerly known as Endeavor Content, and comes from Spector producer Lightbox in partnership with Rolling Stone.
It comes after Manson, otherwise known as Brian Warner, received a litany of accusations in recent years. Evan Rachel Wood accused the musician of sexual and physical violence and was behind a two-part HBO documentary Phoenix Rising. Subsequently, Game of Thrones star Esmé Bianco accused him of sexual assault and sexual battery and a number of other women filed civil lawsuits against him.
He was dropped by CAA and his record label Loma Vista and axed from series such as Starz’s American Gods and Shudder’s Creepshow.

Earlier this week singer Marilyn Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, reached a settlement with an ex-girlfriend who accused him of rape. The woman, identified only as “Jane Doe,” filed her suit in 2021 — the pair were set to face off in court next week. On Wednesday, Jane Doe’s attorney Adam Wolf filed a notice of settlement in Los Angeles.
Manson’s attorney Howard King commented, “Brian is pleased that, just as previous lawsuits were abandoned without payment or settled for pennies on the dollar, this plaintiff has now agreed to drop her suit in exchange for an insurance payment representing a fraction of her demands and far less than the cost to Brian of proceeding to trial.”
Doe issued her own statement to Rolling Stone and explained why she dropped the suit: “threats, bullying, harassment and various forms of intimidation that have intensified over the past few weeks.

Evan Rachel Wood will not have to face defamation claims from Marilyn Manson accusing her of manufacturing a conspiracy to portray him as a serial abuser who has sexually assaulted several women.
At the center of the dispute were allegations that Wood and her friend Illma Gore lied to prospective accusers to encourage them to come forward with sexual assault allegations against the musician, namely by saying that he filmed the assault of a minor in a 1996 short film he made called Groupie. In a tentative ruling adopted by the court on Tuesday, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Teresa Beaudet tossed claims against Wood under a law providing for the dismissal of suits arising out of protected speech.

Shock rocker Marilyn Manson just got a legal shock as a California judge tossed out most of the fading musician’s defamation case against Evan Rachel Wood over the Westworld actress’ claims of abuse during the former couple’s relationship.
“The Court grants Wood’s special motion to strike in part,” wrote , LA Superior Court Judge Teresa A. Beaudet Tuesday in a multi-pronged tentative order that has just become final (read it here).
Emphasizing the Golden State’s anti-slapp statute and its protect of individual free speech, Judge Beaudet took a lot of the guts out of Manson a.k.a. Brian Warner’s suit of March 2022. While Manson’s case can proceed on the remaining counts, the big-ticket items are pretty much dead, at least for now. Evan Rachel Wood says she never pressured Marilyn Manson accuser Ashley Morgan Smithline to make allegations against the musician after the woman recanted her statement earlier this month.
Responding to an earlier filing by Smithline, Wood said in a declaration filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court and obtained by The Hollywood Reporter that she had no contact with Smithline prior to an Oct. 21, 2020, “meeting of survivors” filmed as part of the HBO doc Phoenix Rising.
She added, “I had not met her, I had not communicated with her, and I did not know who she was” prior to Smithline commenting on one of Wood’s March 2019 posts in which the actress discussed the abuse she allegedly experienced at the hands of a man she would later reveal to be Manson (legally known as Brian Warner).

Daniel Radcliffe rhymes surgeon with virgin alongside Evan Rachel Wood’s Madonna in the latest trailer for “Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.”

A version of this story about “Phoenix Rising” first appeared in the Race Begins issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
When director Amy Berg began filming Evan Rachel Wood for the documentary that would become “Phoenix Rising,” she figured she was chronicling an “Erin Brockovich”-type story about women who had survived abuse lobbying for a change to the statute of limitations for those crimes.
“I thought what she was doing was really interesting, testifying in Sacramento for the survivors’ bill of rights,” said Berg, who had known Wood for years and had previously asked the actress if she’d read Janis Joplin’s words for the 2015 documentary “Janis: Little Girl Blue.”
But Berg had no idea that Wood’s story would move far beyond that lobbying effort. At the time when filming began for “Phoenix Rising,” Wood had spoken publicly about the abuse she’d suffered as a young...

Evan Rachel Wood is opening up about her experience being “publicly gaslit” for coming forward with abuse allegations against Marilyn Manson.
On a new episode of Jameela Jamil’s podcast “I Weigh,” the actor dived deep into the “re-traumatizing” but necessary process of being involved in a sexual abuse investigation.
Manson (real name Brian Hugh Warner) and Wood were publicly in a relationship from 2006 to 2010, and Wood named Manson as her alleged abuser in February 2021. Soon after, the Los Angeles Police Department announced that Manson was under investigation for domestic violence. Wood has recently released a documentary on HBO, “Phoenix Rising,” which follows her journey to pass the Phoenix Act — a bill that extends the statute of limitations in domestic violence — in the California senate. Wood has recently released a documentary on HBO, “Phoenix Rising,” which follows her journey to pass the Phoenix Act — a bill that extends the statute of limitations in domestic violence — in the California senate. In conversation with Jamil, Wood detailed her experience of being questioned about the alleged abuse.

A little over a year ago, Evan Rachel Wood released a statement claiming Marilyn Manson “started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years.” Her words followed years of speculation in which she spoke of suffering sexual abuse at the hands of a significant other without naming him.

Evan Rachel Wood is standing her ground.
The “Westworld” star revealed that she is “not scared” of the lawsuit filed against her by Brian Warner, aka Marilyn Manson, ahead of the March 15 premiere of HBO’s two-part documentary “Phoenix Rising.”
Wood explained on the March 14 episode of “The View” that she was “lured into a false sense of security” by Manson. “Well in the first place, I was not drawn to him, he was drawn to me,” Wood said. “He approached me under the guise of work, false promises, and that is part of the grooming process.”
Wood alleged in “Phoenix Rising” that Manson “essentially raped” her on camera while filming the 2007 music video for “Heart-Shaped Glasses.” Wood was 19 years old at the time, and alleged that she was given absinthe on set to the point that she was barely conscious; the video features Manson and Wood having sex while...

Evan Rachel Wood appeared on “The View” ahead of her two-part documentary “Rising Phoenix” debuting on HBO this week and stood defiant against a recent lawsuit Marilyn Manson filed against her.
“I can’t obviously speak about any of the specific allegations of the lawsuit, but I’m not scared,” Wood said. “I am sad, because this is how it works. This is what pretty much every survivor that tries to expose someone in a position of power goes though, and this is part of the retaliation that keeps survivors quiet. This is why people don’t want to come forward. This was expected.”

In an amended lawsuit filed Friday, lawyers for former Marilyn Manson assistant Ashley Walters stated that she repressed the memories of much of the sexual abuse and battery she claimed she endured during her time with the shock rocker, only confronting what occurred following therapy sessions in the fall of 2020.
Walters first sued the singer born Brian Warner in May 2021; Manson’s lawyers attempted to have the lawsuit thrown out in January 2022 on the basis of statute of limitations, but the judge overseeing the case declined to rule on that motion until a later date.

Amy Berg’s two-part HBO documentary “Phoenix Rising” finds Evan Rachel Wood reflecting on her abuse allegations against Marilyn Manson. New details from the documentary’s second part (airing March 16 on HBO) have emerged courtesy of Insider and the New York Post, including Wood’s allegation that Manson told her to make him dinner right after she got an abortion. Wood became pregnant with Manson’s child while making the 2011 HBO miniseries “Mildred Pierce.”
“He flew out for the abortion. I was just so scared and sad,” Wood says in the documentary. “I obviously believe in a woman’s right to choose, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t devastating…The second it was over [he] was like, ‘Make me dinner.’ And I remember being like, ‘I’m supposed to be resting — my body has gone through this trauma, there’s aftermath here.’ And he didn’t care.”

"It's a wake up call to us all." HBO has unveiled the official trailer for the documentary Phoenix Rising, directed by Oscar-nominated doc filmmaker Amy Berg. Actress and activist Evan Rachel Wood takes her experience as a survivor of domestic violence to pursue justice, heal trauma, and reclaim her story in a culture that instinctively blames women. The film intimately charts her journey as she moves toward naming her infamous abuser for the first time. Evan Rachel Wood has a message for audiences: “I’m here today to talk about Brian Warner, also known to the world as Marilyn Manson,” the actress-turned-activist says in the trailer for two-part HBO documentary “Phoenix Rising,” directed by Amy Berg.
The film premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival, and, per an official HBO synopsis, the documentary captures Wood’s “experience as a survivor of domestic violence to pursue justice, heal generational wounds and reclaim her story” after escaping a dangerous, almost decade-long relationship.
Wood co-authored and successfully lobbied for passage of The Phoenix Act, state legislation that extends the statute of limitations for domestic violence cases in California.
The trailer includes Wood’s friends and family, including mother Sara Lynn Moore, who alleged that Wood’s former partner Marilyn Manson “groomed her” and was a “predator.”
Wood revealed that she was “essentially raped on camera” while filming Manson’s 2007 music video for “Heart-Shaped Glasses.

Around a year ago, actress Evan Rachel Wood and more than a dozen other women came forward with allegations of rape, physical assault, and mental cruelty against Marilyn Manson. The entertainment industry reacted swiftly, with Manson’s manager, booking agent, record label, and others ending their associations with him soon after. (Manson has denied the allegations.) Since then, the only prominent figure in music to support Manson publicly has been Kanye West, who featured the musician on his Donda album and has given him a spotlight at events.
