With the studio set to introduce Marvel’s first family Fantastic Four in the MCU, fans are revisiting the previous adaptations of the superhero team, including Josh Trank’s 2015 reboot boasting a stellar cast including Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell. There is no denying that the film has not been the best the superhero genre has to offer and fans have now noted one glaring flaw that further compounds its shortcomings.

The superhero team has always been defined as Marvel’s first family. However, the 2015 reboot film doesn’t seem too keen to follow the concept as two of the leading characters Susan Storm and The Thing hardly have a conversation in the movie.

George Waggner's 1941 horror film "The Wolf Man" introduced audiences to, essentially, the "second officer" of the Universal Monsters canon. Everyone knows that Dracula is the captain of the monster ship, and that Frankenstein is his first officer (a position he often shares with the Bride). The Wolf Man is always third in command, perhaps serving as a security officer or an enforcer. Mummies, gillmen, invisible men, Dr. Hydes, and other ancillary ghouls serve lower down in the crew.
Watching the original "Wolf Man" film, however, reveals a dark and sad tale about Larry Talbot who is attacked by a wolf on a misty night in Wales, afflicting him with the curse of the werewolf. Throughout the year, Larry will transform into an animalistic wolf/human creature and stalk and kill random victims. The tale is terrifying and tragic and inspired many pop culture tales to follow -- as well as many nightmares.

One of the most recurring trends in Hollywood right now is the horror remake, and for better, or worse, it isn’t gonna disappear (pun intended) anytime soon. David Gordon Green’s The Exorcist remake may have been met with a geyser of pea soup from the mouths of critics and fans alike, but that isn’t slowing the trend down for the foreseeable future. The Halloween franchise has been picked up by Miramax with the intention of creating a TV series, and a possible cinematic universe, and that’s just hot off the heels of Halloween Ends, erm, ending the recent trilogy with somewhat of a whimper. Early 2024 is set to bring us Night Swim, a Blumhouse production that looks to be in the campier style of M3GAN as opposed to the other two films we’ve just mentioned. The project is one of the first collaborations between James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions at Universal Pictures.

The most demanded fan casting from the past few years has been Hollywood power could John Krasinski and Emily Blunt as Reed Richards and Susan Storm. It’s not so hard to understand why the fans have been pushing for this so much. Mr. Fantastic and The Invisible Woman are Marvel’s most popular couple. As the crow flies, only about 30 miles separate the port towns of Dover and Calais — a distance that, in many parts of the world, wouldn’t span any greater culture shift than a slight tweak in accent. When those miles are filled with the English Channel, however, opposite coastlines represent opposite worlds, where everything from language to sexual mores are poles apart. It’s a short but jolting journey, an exercise in social and geographic disorientation that British-Pakistani filmmaker Aleem Khan probes to layered, thoughtful effect in his auspicious first feature “After Love.”

Darius Marder’s innovative “Sound of Metal” and Paul Greengrass’ “News of the World” western each grabbed three sound editing nominations at the 68th annual Mpse Golden Reel Awards (which will be held virtually on April 16). “Sound of Metal,” the frontrunner, captures Riz Ahmed’s heavy-metal drummer slowly losing his hearing, while “News of the World” creates the shootouts, sandstorms, and rainstorms that assault Tom Hanks on his journey in post-Civil War Texas. The Academy has consolidated sound editing and mixing onto a single category for the first time this season.
Several features scored two nominations: “Tenet,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” and “Greyhound.” Also making the cut were “Mank,” “The Midnight Sky,” “The Invisible Woman,” “Nomadland,””Wonder Woman 1984,” “Emperor,” and “Cherry.”

A new commercial from 'SpaceX', promoting the 'Falcon 9' launch of 'Inspiration4', "the world’s first all-commercial astronaut mission to orbit", with billionaire Jared Isaacman donating three seats alongside him, to anyone looking to blast off into space, could be similar to Marvel Comics' "Fantastic Four", where four civilians in space, are blindsided by cosmic rays, causing their molecules to scramble, resulting in extraordinary new powers:
"...in the original 'Fantastic Four' origin story, aeronautical engineer 'Reed Richards' decided to make an unauthorized test flight into space using an experimental rocket. Reed's plan was to use the ship to visit an Earthlike planet in a star system 44 lightyears away. When Reed's financiers began to lose interest in the project, Reed's girlfriend 'Susan Storm' and her younger brother 'Johnny' insisted on joining Reed on the flight. Reed's old friend 'Ben Grimm' was convinced to pilot the rocket.

“Nomadland” director Chloé Zhao is tackling the classic Universal monster Dracula, as the writer, producer and director of a new take on the character in the vein of a futuristic sci-fi western.
“I’ve always been fascinated by vampires and the concept of the Other they embody,” Zhao said in a release. “I’m very excited to work with Donna [Langley], Peter [Cramer] and the team at Universal to reimagine such a beloved character.”
“Chloé’s singular lens shines a light on stories of the overlooked and misunderstood,” said Peter Cramer, Universal Pictures president. “We are thrilled to be working with her as she reimagines one of the most iconic outsider characters ever created.”
First created by Bram Stoker in his 1897 gothic horror novel, Dracula — a count who lives in the Carpathian Mountains in Transylvania — has tantalized readers and audiences for over a century. The vampire was famously played by Bela Lugosi in the 1930s,...

Universal are determined to keep churning out movies based on their stable of classic monsters one way or another, with the latest approach having seen the studio switch their focus from the misguided star-powered blockbusters which conspired to kill the Dark Universe at the first hurdle, to lower budget efforts that are much more filmmaker-driven.
Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man was a fantastic step in the right direction, raking in over $130 million at the box office on a $7 million budget and receiving widespread critical acclaim. And just like the that, the floodgates have opened once again and now Whannell will direct Ryan Gosling in The Wolfman, while Karyn Kusama’s Dracula, Elizabeth Banks’ The Invisible Woman, Dexter Fletcher’s Renfield, Paul Feig’s Dark Army and many more are all in various stages of development.

The Dark Universe may have imploded at the first hurdle to the surprise of hardly anyone except the executives at Universal, but the studio are already in the process of rebooting their classic monsters again. Things got off to a great start with Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, which raked in almost $135 million at the box office on a $7 million budget, opening the floodgates in the process.
Whannell will be diving into the back catalogue once more when he directs Ryan Gosling in The Wolfman, while there’s also Elizabeth Banks’ The Invisible Woman, Blumhouse’s new take on Frankenstein and Karyn Kusama’s Dracula all in the works. On top of all that, though, insider Daniel Richtman is now claiming that Benedict Cumberbatch is being eyed to play the iconic Count as well, something that we previously told you months ago.

Netflix is unleashing Brazilian zombies in “Reality Z,” its first collaboration with multi-Emmy winning Brazilian production house, Conspiracao. The series will be made available from June 10.
An adaptation of British horror miniseries “Dead Set” by “Black Mirror” creator Charlie Brooker, “Reality Z” is set against the stunning backdrop of Brazilian city Rio de Janeiro, where a zombie apocalypse forces the participants and producers of the “Olimpo” reality show to take shelter in the self-sustaining bespoke set.
Award-winning Brazilian director, screenwriter and executive producer Cláudio Torres (“The Invisible Woman”) took on the challenge to adapt the series by tapping into Brazil’s pop culture and its obsession with reality shows. “Olimpo” is not unlike “Big Brother Brazil,” which snagged an official Guinness World Records certificate when its March 31 episode collected more than 1.5 billion votes.
At first wary of “messing with a classic,” Torres sought inspiration in the Brazilian artistic movement of Anthropophagy.

The Dark Universe became a laughing stock after 2017’s The Mummy bombed, but to be fair to Universal, they’ve got back in the game pretty quickly and have already found a new, more successful direction to go in with their classic horror properties – dispensing with the shared franchise gimmick and focusing on making creator-led standalone features. Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, for instance, was well-received earlier this year. Now, the next one to get this treatment is The Wolfman and it’s already got a big name attached to star.
Variety reported this evening that Ryan Gosling has signed up to lead another reboot of the iconic werewolf tale. The trade notes that this particular take on the material, whatever that may be, was actually pitched to the studio by the Drive star. He was originally set to direct, too, but has ultimately decided to leave that to someone else.

Thanks to their success with The Invisible Man, Blumhouse is continuing bringing classic monsters back to the big screen with a new take on Dracula. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Karyn Kusama will be directing a new version of Dracula that will be set in the modern day. The script will be written by frequent Kusama collaborators Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, and while not announced officially as a project under Universal Studios, it's very likely the case given Blumhouse's relationship with the studio.

The last time Universal attempted to reboot their classic monsters, the entire experiment was virtually dead by the time the credits rolled on their first project. This time, the opposite looks to be true, with Blumhouse and Saw co-creator Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man set to top the box office this weekend in the wake of incredibly strong reviews, setting the Universal Monsters up for a true return to form.
Treating the characters as the stars of mega-budget action blockbusters was never the best idea, and the fact that The Invisible Man is set to earn almost three times its production budget back in the space of three days in theaters only hammers that point home. The studio’s new focus is to make smaller, filmmaker and actor-driven projects that approach these enduring horror icons in fresh and interesting ways, and there’s plenty more on the horizon.

The two co-creators of Saw have carved out incredibly successful careers for themselves since their 2004 breakout hit. While James Wan has branched out into multi-billion blockbuster territory thanks to the expanded Conjuring universe, Fast and Furious 7 and Aquaman, Leigh Whannell has remained largely in the horror genre, although his second outing as director did bring 2018’s cyberpunk actioner and all-round hidden gem Upgrade.
Whannell’s latest is Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man, with the Australian filmmaker also writing the script and acting as executive producer. The new attempt at rebooting one of Universal’s classic monsters has scored rave reviews from critics for both its scares and subtext, and is widely expected to top the box office this weekend and deliver the latest in a long line of horror hits from Jason Blum’s production company.

After the misguided Dark Universe experiment failed at the first hurdle following the highly-publicized tales of behind-the-scenes woe, scathing reviews and disappointing box office that greeted Tom Cruise’s The Mummy, Universal took a step back and decided instead to focus on smaller-scale, more filmmaker-driven projects for their stable of classic monsters, with even the studio head admitting that the interconnected franchise idea was a failure.

Fresh off the success of his two Mummy movies at the turn of the millennium, which both earned over $400 million at the box office, director Stephen Sommers decided to tackle the rest of Universal’s classic monsters for his follow-up feature. While the idea of Van Helsing sounded good on paper, reinventing Dracula’s arch-nemesis as a Vatican-sponsored monster hunter played by A-list star Hugh Jackman, the execution failed after the filmmaker stuffed the story to its bursting point, burning through Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Frankenstein, the Wolfman and Dracula himself in a mess of sub-par CGI and wall-to-wall action sequences that quickly became an assault on the senses.

This shouldn’t be noteworthy, but it is: There are three women directors in the top 10 at the box office. “Frozen 2,” directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee; “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” directed by Marielle Heller; and “Queen & Slim,” directed by Melina Matsoukas.
Even better: “Queen & Slim” is an original film (with a screenplay by Lena Waithe), as is Rian Johnson’s Agatha Christie-inspired murder mystery “Knives Out.” Each of these films is buoyed by strong reviews and positive Cinemascores, and all will factor into Oscar season, which means they should expect to enjoy continued play through the end of the year and into next.
The top spot for the weekend will no doubt go to “Frozen 2” which, at more than $200 million domestic, makes it Disney Animation Studios’ most successful franchise since “The Lion King.”

‘Charlie’s Angels’ star and director Elizabeth Banks is set to team with Universal to helm and star in ‘The Invisible Woman’.
The project is an original pitch from Banks which will see Erin Cressida Wilson (The Girl On The Train) pen the script. Banks will also produce alongside Max Handelman through their Brownstone Productions, which did the ‘Pitch Perfect’ series and most recently ‘Charlie’s Angels’.
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps but sources say Banks’ pitch is very different from Leigh Whanell’s ‘Invisible Man’.

Joining Renfield, Dark Army, and the upcoming The Invisible Man as new takes on classic Universal horror films, a new Invisible Woman is now in development with Elizabeth Banks on board to star in and direct the film.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Banks will star in and helm Invisible Woman, a new take on 1940's The Invisible Woman, which was the third film in the Invisible Man franchise based on the iconic character created by legendary author H.G. Wells in his 1897 novella. Banks previously directed Pitch Perfect 2 and this year's Charlie's Angels reboot.
Described as "Thelma & Louise meets American Psycho," the screenplay for the new Invisible Woman was written by Erin Cressida Wilson and is based on a pitch by Banks, according to Variety, who also reports that Invisible Woman is not expected to be connected story-wise to Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man.
