- Quotes
Joan Campbell: Annie? Annie.
Annie Walker: I'm sorry, I didn't hear you.
Joan Campbell: What are you working on at this hour?
Annie Walker: Oh. I was just... uhm, I had some free time, so I was looking through the classifieds in some of the European papers. See if I could find some workable patterns.
Joan Campbell: We have a room full of computers dedicated to finding workable patterns.
Annie Walker: [smiles] Yeah, but, you never know, they might have missed something.
Joan Campbell: You know, it can be pretty overwhelming, your first few months off the Farm. Maybe you should take a few days off. Clear your head.
Annie Walker: This is about the dings I got, isn't it? Looking into Ben Mercer and the access denieds. But, really, I'm over that, Joan. All of it.
Joan Campbell: Wanna talk about the note?
Annie Walker: What note?
Joan Campbell: The note that our tech division spent six man-hours analyzing this week.
Annie Walker: [sighs, takes it out of her desk drawer] Ben Mercer left me that in Sri Lanka in lieu of saying goodbye.
[the note reads: The truth is complicated. Forgive me]
Annie Walker: I can tell you a lot about it.
[slight giggle]
Annie Walker: The paper is 0.09 millimeters thick. It is made out of ground wood pulp and manufactured in Andhra Pradesh. And handwriting tells me that the strong t-bars and horizontal pressure indicate perseverance, even stubbornness. The only thing I can't tell you about that note... is what the hell it means.
Joan Campbell: Sometimes, we have to accept that, and move on.
Annie Walker: You're probably right.
[nods]
Annie Walker: A few days off is probably a good idea.

Piper Perabo is, as always, fantastic. I especially like that the character is not portrayed as the street- fighter type. She has no special skills in defending herself. She seems to flail out and lose against opponents much stronger than her, then some cunning, and a lucky break, more or less... and Good triumphs over Evil after all. I find it to be more realistic than a kung fu trained hellcat. Notice the fight scene in this one. I mean that other girl, sure, that one's more than convincing as a rough chick, and Annie is clearly no match for her, so she had to use her wits.
Just one interesting side note, something that I've not commented on before:
Playing footsy. I've been noticing all through the season the shots of Annie's bare feet. Aw, by chance, I thought. Then, with the previous episode, my favorite up till now, what with the two girls trying to sneak away by taking off their high heels, it became clear that there is some devotee at work... in the script. This week, loads more, there is Annie's foamy foot in the bath, the gorgeous long-legged barefoot bikini sequence, and Annie's sister sliding, hiding the man's shoe surreptitiously under the bed with her clever foot. I wonder how many other viewers have noticed this trend? This is the ninth episode already, and footsie close-ups are regular.
Piper Perabo has the most amazing smile. It is just... well, wow, what can I say? That girl has got to be a national treasure. The bikini scenes reveal she is every bit the prime quality dream girl. Okay, The Raven knows the Secret Police is standing by with their nets to haul me off to the funny farm, so I am forced to sign off on that delectable subject...
A perfect mix of glam and action, the season so far. Top scores from me.
