Amber Tamblyn knew it would take something special to convince her to act again.
A working actress since the age of nine, Tamblyn has spent the last two decades growing up on screen — an upbringing that has made her privy to years of gender discrimination in Hollywood.
In her new book “Era of Ignition: Coming of Age in a Time of Rage and Revolution,” Tamblyn describes being told to lose weight in order to be considered for major roles; being asked to contribute ideas to scripts without receiving credit; and watching her directorial debut “Paint It Black” get rejected from a prominent indie film distributor for no other reason, she believes, but that she is a woman. She also revisits her account of James Woods trying to lure her and a friend to Las Vegas when she was 16, which Woods denies.

1. “BoJack Horseman” Season 3 (available July 22)
Why Should I Watch It? “BoJack Horseman” is a literal and figurative treasure trove of joy, insight and harsh truths. On the literal side, so many small moments pop up throughout the 30-minute episodes it takes repeat viewings to appreciate them all — from the .gif-worthy transitionary bits to the heavy-hitting quips. Yet figuratively, “BoJack” offers up a distinct, strong viewpoint that isn’t afraid to take questions to an existential level, which creates deeper subjective realizations each time you watch (and re-watch, and re-watch, and re-watch…). This is as “must-see” as TV gets — every time.
Best Episode: We wouldn’t dare spoil the new season — not even by telling you what episode to look forward to — and we’ve already covered Season 2. (After much deliberation, we chose “Escape From L.A.” as the best episode.) So let’s just set this time aside to honor the...

Flaked will likely live on. Per sources, Netflix is nearing a deal for a second season of Will Arnett's deeply personal Venice, Calif. dramedy. The order is expected to be for six episodes, and comes some two months after the series premiered globally on the streaming service. To date, Flaked has been co-written by creators Arnett and his pal Mark Chappell (The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret), with Ben Silverman, manager-producer Peter Principato and Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz serving as executive producers. Arnett also stars alongside a lesser known cast that includes David Sullivan, Ruth Kearney and

Will Arnett has a not-altogether-outlandish theory: play a TV character long enough and audiences will find it increasingly difficult to separate you from that fictional construct. "People have this preconceived notion of me," contends the actor, best known as Gob Bluth, the egotistical, moronic magician on Arrested Development. "I'm Gob to them: this thoughtless sociopath who lives this bizarre, ego-driven life. That would be insanity. As I get older, I'm sort of fascinated with the idea of somebody who could construct an entire persona for themselves — one that was really,...

I'll admit, when Netflix first revealed that they were essentially working to become a network, I was skeptical. Could a streaming service churn out TV shows of a similar quality as, say, a standard network or cable channel? Not likely. In addition, I didn't quite understand the business plan behind it. House Of Cards came out, and it wasn't the first time I was glad to be proven wrong. The show was topnotch in almost every sense of the word, proving once and for all, that not only were they capable of making great shows, but that they could demolish networks at their own game.
Fast forward to today. Netflix has released classic after classic. From Daredevil and Jessica Jones to The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Master Of None, the streaming service has proven that good storytelling isn't exclusive to standard television. Read More: Netflix Corrals Will Arnett For New Comedy Series 'Flaked' Will Arnett surprises fans by trading in that notorious segway for a bike, and Balboa Island for Venice beach. But those changes aren't by chances — he's taking a stab at a new dramatic role in Netflix's newest original series, "Flaked." The upcoming dramedy tells the story of Chip (Arnett), a conceited former alcoholic who's pining for the same woman as his own best friend. Keeping track of what is a fib, the truth and a flat-out lie is precarious for a man who's life was arguably easier with booze. Will Arnett and Mark Chappell ("The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret") penned the new series that will be sure to include a few laughs thanks to executive producer Mitch Hurwitz. Post the original run of "Arrested Development," Will Arnett hasn't quite found his footing with live action fare. He was great in the short-lived NBC sitcom "Up All Night," and his voicework has landed him plum gigs in "Bojack Horseman" and "The Lego Movie," with his own "The Lego Batman Movie" in the works. But now he'll get to show a bit of range in the upcoming Netflix series "Flaked," which looks like it could be nice, minor key effort. And then, more damningly: "And if, as Beyoncé contends, this song means so very much to her why hasn't she sung it on any of her 200 albums? Could her performance have merely hinted at an exaggerated sense of self-worth that...

The former Arrested Development star has been tapped to lead Flaked, a new comedy series for Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Arnett plays a self-appointed guru named Chip who inadvertently falls in love with his best friend’s crush.
Arnett will write Flaked with co-creator Mark Chappell (The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret). The two will executive-produce the series alongside Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development) and Peter Principato (Blask-ish).
Ordered for eight episodes, Flaked will premiere on Netflix in 2016.

Will Arnett is continuing his Netflix takeover: The "Arrested Development" and "BoJack Horseman" star is teaming with the streaming service on a new series.
"Flaked" will be an eight-episode comedy centered around Chip (Arnett), a so-called "guru" in Venice, California who falls for his best friend's crush, and then attempts "to stay one step ahead of his own lies," per an official synopsis. Arnett co-created and co-wrote the series with Mark Chappell ("The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret"), and is also re-teaming with his "Arrested" boss Mitch Hurwitz, who is co-executive producing the project.
"We're very excited to partner with Netflix -- the home of original, original content - and the network I knew would be the ideal home for this passion project," Arnett said in a statement.
"We are thrilled to be the home of Will Arnett's next series, and look forward to Chip joining his repertoire...

Not content with simply being part of the cast for Arrested Development or voicing the title character in the streaming service’s oddball Hollywood ‘toon BoJack Horseman, Will Arnett is next set to co-create and star in a show for Netflix. He’s one of the people behind the new comedy Flaked. The sitcom, which he’s working on with The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret’s Mark Chappell, will find Arnett playing a role that seems well suited to his usual blowhard style. Flaked follows a self-appointed guru in Venice, California named Chip who has built a web of half-truths and full lies around his adopted personality. But when he falls for the object of his best friend’s fascination, the shell of nonsense he’s so carefully constructed starts to fall apart, bringing down his image and any claim to sobriety with it.Arnett has roped in...

Ever the provocateur, Ryan Murphy is capitalizing on the success of “American Horror Story” and the buzz surrounding its upcoming freak-show themed season by announcing a new companion series, “American Crime Story.” The show will also be a scripted FX anthology, but will center on infamous true crimes. Take a wild guess at the first season’s subject. Yup, it’s O.J. Simpson. The first installment will be directed by Murphy from a script by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who have some courtroom drama experience as the writers of “The People vs. Larry Flynt.” [Deadline] In other television news, cult hit “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret,” created by and starring David Cross, will be resurrected on IFC in 2015, three years after the first two six-episode seasons officially wrapped. Cast member Sharon Horgan is confirmed for the cast, but no word yet whether Will Arnett, Spike Jonze, or Blake Harrison will return.

We wouldn't call this a poor decision, necessarily, but it is a bewildering one: After more than two years away, IFC is bringing back The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret for a six-episode third season airing in 2015. Todd Margaret's season-two finale ended with Todd blowing up all life on Earth, so the show's hundreds of fans will be curious to see where it goes from here. ...

Let's see you write your way out of this one, David Cross. Following a three-year hiatus, Cross's scripted comedy “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret” is returning to IFC for Season 3. It will pick up where the second season left off: as Cross's character detonates a battery of nuclear bombs that incinerate the planet. “Todd Margaret” is slated to return in 2015 with six new half-hour episodes. Cross plays the fish-out-of-water titular character, an American based in London who completely lacks any sense of good judgment. He blew up the world and now apparently it's time to rebuild it: IFC has picked up a six-episode third season of David Cross' The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret, EW has learned exclusively. Created, co-written by, and starring the Arrested Development veteran, the London-set comedy will pick up in season three where season two left off back in early 2012—which should be quite interesting, as in-over-his-head American sales exec Todd was last seen setting off nuclear bombs that destroy the planet. The cast—which has included Will Arnett, Blake Harrison, and Spike Jonze—is still being finalized,...

No-one does a Mrs. Featherbottom impersonation, we promise. In the non-interview portions of the podcast, the team talk about a trio of suspicious movie pitches currently gaining traction in Hollywood, and discuss the always enjoyable experience of spotting someone who is now famous playing a tiny part in an old movie. As Jenny on "Two and a Half Men," Amber Tamblyn is brash and rash. She's the daughter no one knew Charlie had.
Coming into the CBS Thursday comedy in its 11th season was easier than one might imagine.
"What if I just realized for the first time that Jon Cryer was physically abusive and Ashton Kutcher refused to speak to me and had his entire trailer moved?" Tamblyn asks Zap2it. "They are the two sweetest guys in the whole world. They are so kind and supportive, and so is Conchata Ferrell. She is so funny. I feel like Jenny will become Berta when she grows up.
"I'll help anyone drink," she says of her character. "I will support anyone's alcoholism or drug addiction, I don't care. Holland Taylor is so extraordinary."
She likens this to joining "House" during its long run, but working on a comedy is easier.

Comedy is one of the longest-running genres in cinema, producing numerous screen legends from The Marx Brothers to Madeline Kahn, as well as numerous classics, from The Gold Rush to Hot Fuzz. Fans of the genre thus look forward every year to the new crop of films, eager to see what they may bring, and this year is no different. Here are ten comedic features we’re looking forward to seeing in 2014, in alphabetical order.
1) Bad Words
Much of Jason Bateman’s career resurrection has centred around his ability to successfully play the comic foil. While his ability to do is deservedly lauded, as shows like Arrested Development would not work without his presence, it often leads to the actor garnering the less colourful roles in any given project, ending up as more of a reactive presence. Bad Words, however, seems poised to put Bateman on the other side,...

"A Young Doctor's Notebook," a British series that stars Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe, is getting a second season.
The four-part series debuted to good reviews last December on the Sky Arts channel in the U.K., as well as the largest audience in the channel's history. The series is based on stories by Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov; Mark Chappell and Shaun Pye ("The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret") and Alan Connor adapted it.

Exclusive: Showtime has put in development a comedy project from actor-writer David Cross. Here is the premise as explained by Cross himself: It centers around “a modestly successful travel writer who struggles to keep his families happy and satisfied. Oh, and also from finding out about each other’s existence.” Cross will write and executive produce through his Liberal Jew-Run Media Prods. His manager, Tim Sarkes of Brillstein Entertainment, also will serve as executive producer. Unlike other series Cross has created/co-created — including HBO cult classic Mr. Show, Comedy Central’s Freak Show and IFC’s The Increasingly Poor Decisions Of Todd Margaret, in which he also starred — I hear the lead in the Showtime project is not designed for him. However, if the script goes forward, he may play another role. Cross most recently reprised his role as Tobias Fünke in the Arrested Development revival on Netflix.
