- When headquarters shuts down the house, the crew formulates a makeshift response to a nearby call. A face from the past stirs Tommy and Janet's emotions as their date begins to unravel.
- After "baptizing" his daughter in booze, Tommy stews in lock-up. He gets a visit from the ghosts of Jimmy and Connor. He apologizes for what he said, saying he was drunk. Connor ghost is mad. Tommy tells him he misses him and loves him. The guard comes for him. The charges are dropped.
Janet brings Tommy and Colleen home. He asks Colleen if she's lost the taste for booze. She's not sure. He pours her a drink to find out. She doesn't want to, but she takes a sip and immediately pukes. He gives her a different booze to try. She sips that and thinks she's OK, but then has to go puke.
Janet tells him he might have just saved their daughter. Tommy starts to ask her out for a date and she says yes. Colleen comes back out, wanting to try wine. She reaches for it in the fridge, but the gag reflex kicks back in again.
Tommy picks up Shawn on his way in to the station. Shawn tells him Colleen is still fine. Tommy thanks Shawn for dealing with Franco for him. Shawn doesn't think he should have hit him, but Tommy thinks that's exactly what family is for. Tommy suggests Shawn just act friendly to Franco as an olive branch and maybe apologize.
They arrive at the firehouse and find it's boarded up. Needles blames Tommy for the closure for getting arrested for assaulting his own daughter -- in a church. Tommy immediately throws Shawn under the bus for beating up Franco. Then Mike mutters that it might have been the email.
Mike and Sean wrote HQ an email about Pat Mahoney not having money for treatment for his 9-11 cancer. He tried to hit delete but hit send.
A woman from the neighborhood comes up, ready for a cookout. When they tell her the situation, she's ready to protest.
Lou walks up with an axe, but quickly breaks off the handle. He says 17 houses were shut down. Lou wants in -- all his food's in there. He was there last night making his chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter frosting. They attack the boarded up house.
A crowd has begun to gather outside the house, but there are still no news crews. And Shawn notices Franco isn't there yet.
Tommy tells Damien he can get them assigned to the same house. Damien's rattled by how Tommy was shaken the other day. He thinks he might not want the drama. He thinks he's proven that he can do it and made his dad proud, but he could do something else.
Damien tells him he's even more sure he doesn't want to do it. Sheila, Teddy and Mickey pull up. Teddy tells Tommy the baptism was genius. Tommy seethes watching Mickey pal around with Damien.
Father Phil stops by. He asks about Colleen. Tommy tells her about her insta-puking. "It's like Irish bulimia," Phil says.
Tommy explains who Sheila and Mickey across the street are. Phil thinks Sheila is a "collar chaser," a woman hot for priests.
Tommy introduces them and she immediately gets all silly. He invites her by.
Chief Feinberg shows up, asking Needles what's going on. When he tells them to follow proper channels, they think he's full of it.
They get a call about a school on fire, but no one has responded yet. Half of them pile into Tommy's truck and the others get in Nils' Gremlin.
Tommy takes a short cut and Nils re-ends a truck. They get out and run for it. The school has flames pouring out the windows when they get there. They don't have any tools or gear but they go in. Needles hands Mickey a camera to film the whole thing.
Inside a man leads them to a chemistry lab in flames. There are kids huddled in the corner. Tommy and Shawn grab them. Franco pulls up. Mickey keeps filming, then Damien goes in. Mickey goes after him, handing the camera to Sheila. They hand kids out the window to Franco and Damien and Phil. They get them all. The crowd cheers and then the fire truck pulls up.
Franco finds Tommy outside and apologizes, saying he felt like he betrayed him. Tommy asks what happened with Janet. Franco says it was just a flirtation. Shawn steps in and makes sure they're ok. Franco says they're cool.
Tommy gets in his truck. Janet calls, saying they're clear of kids for the evening. She asks what to wear. When he suggest nothing, he suddenly has to back pedal and pretend he had a whole evening planned. Lou gets in and feeds him lines and suddenly Tommy has promised Tony Bennett and dinner at a fancy new restaurant.
Later, out at dinner, Janet promises to try to be free of the old bitterness and not expect him to read her mind. And yet moments later, she's irritated when he's breezing through the menu. He announces he's decided that she has the most beautiful eyes on the planet, and then he's talking about her "t-s".
He's soon embarrassing her by not understanding the specials through the waiter's thick Italian accent. She finally kicks him to shut him up. Tommy keeps trying to decipher the waiter until Janet has had enough. She leaves and demands the tickets to Tony Bennett. Then they're arguing in the vestibule and she rips the tickets up. They're arguing and throwing each other around. The waiter interrupts them.
Janet gives up, saying she just wanted to be happy. Tommy tells her he can't undo what he did but he can try to be better. A young kid interrupts them. Janet recognizes him as Joey, an old friend of Connor's. He's 17 now. They're both shocked into polite banter.
They drive home in silence. Janet starts crying. Tommy wordlessly hands her a tissue. He puts his hand on her shoulder.
They return home, somber. Tommy hugs her. Tony Bennett sings.
They kiss. She goes to bed. He joins her.
