Cast your minds back to 2002 - a time when Pop Idols didn't need to have The X Factor, Fifty Shades of Grey were just colours on a paint sampler chart and David Beckham was a mere international superstar rather than global megastar.
Bend It Like Beckham, with a modest estimated budget of £3.7 million, opened that same year and became a critical and commercial success - breaking box office records and scoring BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations, as well as making household names of many of its stars.

Kimberley Walsh has joined the cast of upcoming family movie All Stars. The Girls Aloud singer will star alongside Mock the Week comic Hugh Dennis, Extras actress Ashley Jensen and rapper Ashley Walters in the Vertigo film. The 30-year-old's only previous big screen role was a cameo in children's show spinoff Horrid Henry: The Movie alongside Theo Stevenson, who will also feature in the picture. "I am thrilled to be joining the cast of All Stars," she said. "I have worked with Theo before on Horrid Henry and he is a huge talent. "I loved the script as soon as I read it. Having spent the last year sat in screening rooms and cinemas watching over 200 of 2011′s cinematic offerings, it stands to reason that I’m going to have to sit through a fair share of duds. As I had seen the vast majority of the key Oscar plays before November, I spent the latter part of the year dedicating myself to seeking out the worst, most lowest common denominator fare ripe for a skewering, and with these twenty dreadful pictures, we have what are, in my opinion, the 20 biggest train wrecks of 2011. Note that Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star is still awaiting worldwide DVD release and didn’t get distribution in the U.K., so that’s one that I was forced to avoid, but I’m assured that it’s irredeemably horrible nevertheless. Anyway, on with the list…

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has held off competition from Captain America: The First Avenger to claim first place at the UK box office. The Potter finale's £4.5 million haul secures it the top spot for the third consecutive weekend. Captain America, which leads into next year's Marvel team-up The Avengers, nets a £2.9 million opening in second. The figure falls short of the totals for this year's earlier Marvel movies Thor and X-Men: First Class. Both blockbusters debuted to £5.4 million. Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has now grossed £55 million in the UK, making it the most successful release of 2011 so far. Pixar's Cars 2 is at number three, while comedy Horrible Bosses is at number four. New release Horrid Henry: The Movie rounds out the top five. Elsewhere, (more)...

Captain America: The First Avenger (12)
(Joe Johnston, 2011, Us) Chris Evans, Tommy Lee Jones, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan. 124 mins
Unsurprisingly, this is the most patriotic of the summer's superhero movies, but there are few surprises all round. The story is largely what you'd imagine from the trailer: wimpy 1940s do-gooder undergoes a fast-track Charles Atlas course, then socks it to the evil über-Nazis. It's like Inglourious Basterds meets Indiana Jones, although the wholesome tone and white-bread heroism diminish the effects-driven spectacle, and the real second world war is reduced to mere set dressing.
Our Day Will Come (18)
(Romain Gavras, 2010, Fra) Vincent Cassel, Olivier Barthelemy, Justine Lerooy. 83 mins
Edgy provocateur alert! Expanding on the redhead persecution theme he developed in his Mia video, Gavras's debut follows ginger alienation to its conclusion, as Cassel and Barthelemy head out on the highway to oblivion, without a map or a ferry timetable.

For the uninitiated, Henry is Horrid. He doesn’t like school, or his suck-up younger brother, Perfect Peter. He wants to make a lot of mess, shirk his homework and rock out with his band. He hates girls, especially his nemesis Moody Margaret and constantly buts up against his class teacher, Miss Battleaxe. Vic Van Wrinkle, the headteacher of a local private school wants to try to shut down Henry’s school, thereby forcing all of the parents to fork out to have their little darlings educated by him. He enlists he School Inspectors to help him, until Henry and his cohorts get wind of his plan and set out to put a stop to it.

Reviewing a film like Horrid Henry is nigh on impossible. Your take on it will so very much depend on your age and disposition towards the source material, that giving it a star-rating is really an exercise in futility.

Kimberley Walsh has revealed that she would like to perform a Beyoncé medley during a guest appearance on Glee. The Girls Aloud star has recently turned her hand to acting, taking on a role in live-action film Horrid Henry: The Movie. Writing in her Ok column, Walsh said that she would "suggest putting me" in the hit Us show. "These days the only role I'd get is as a teacher, not a school kid," she quipped. "But give me the chance and I'd do a Beyoncé medley with a mad dance routine." The 29-year-old also said that she was interested in seeing how Glee changes over the (more)...

Anjelica Huston found working on 'Horrid Henry: The Movie' ''charming''. The 60-year-old actress - who plays Miss Battle-Axe in the big screen version of the popular British children's book - says it was nice to work with young English actors because they're very enthusiastic compared to their American counterparts. She said: ''Most of the scenes were with Theo Stevenson (Horrid Henry) but English kids are so polite and enthusiastic, and not blase. I did that movie 'Daddy Day Care', with a bunch of American kids, and they were so sophisticated and scarily together compared with this group, who...

Beginners (15)
(Mike Mills, 2010, Us) Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Mélanie Laurent. 105 mins
Mills doesn't iron out the hipster-auteur quirks here – a subtitled dog, freeform photomontages, felt-tip illustrations – but he puts them to the service of an authentic drama. McGregor is an La loner whose widowed father (Plummer) came out as gay and enjoyed a few hedonistic years before his death. Not your standard indie baggage, this warm, smartly told story deals with it sincerely, and gets the sweet/sad balance just about right.

Her father was scary. Vincent Gallo got vicious. And Jack Nicholson taught her never to give a brown present. Anjelica Huston tells John Patterson about a life among Hollywood royalty
The last time I met Anjelica Huston was six or seven years ago in a luxury oceanfront hotel in Venice, California. It was windy and cold, Huston was still a smoker – we talked outside in the wind while she lit up like a naughty schoolgirl. Today, it's a blisteringly hot day, she's an enviably youthful 60, an ex-smoker now, sitting in the lounge of the luxury hotel next door, before a gigantic cinemascope window affording guests a million-dollar view of the Pacific, which looks seriously tempting in today's heat.
"I went in the ocean this year, the day after my birthday," she tells me as we watch the breakers gently roll in, "and it was actually really nice. It's like the Eiffel Tower is for Parisians,...

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?

It has been quite some time since we heard anything regarding the big screen iteration of Horrid Henry – in fact since the official announcement back in mid-February it’s been eerily quiet. But with the Summer release getting ever closer it looks like the marketing machine is about to kick into high-gear, hence these Nine new character banners for the film:
Horrid Henry: The Movie stars Anjelica Huston as Henry’s terrifying teacher Miss Battle-Axe, alongside, Rebecca Front as Henry’s headmistress Ms Oddbod and Richard E Grant as a rival headmaster, with Parminder Nagra as Miss Lovely, Noel Fielding makes an appearance as Killer Boy Rats’ frontman Ed Banger, joining Jo Brand as the Demon Dinner Lady, Matthew Horne as Henry’s Dad and Prunella Scales as Great Aunt Greta. And introducing new young stars, Scarlett Stitt as Moody Margaret and Theo Stevenson as Horrid Henry.

The books have since been turned into a TV series and now it’s ready for the big screen. It’s also the first British kids movie to be shot in 3d.

British pop star Kimberley Walsh is following in her Girls Aloud bandmate Sarah Harding's footsteps - she's landed a supporting role in an upcoming movie. The members of the girl group made brief appearances in 2007's St. Trinian's playing school band members, with Harding going on to land a bigger part in the sequel.
Walsh has now also bagged herself another film project - she's been cast in "Horrid Henry: The Movie", alongside Anjelica Huston and Richard E. Grant. She'll play the lead character's cousin, Polly.
She says, "I am so excited to have been asked! The Horrid Henry books are wonderful and to be playing the role of Prissy Polly in 3D is incredible!"...

My kids will be thrilled about this one. For the uninitiated, Horrid Henry is a series of books and now animated TV programmes about a boy called Henry who is, well, Horrid. His brother, Perfect Peter and his teacher, Miss Battleaxe feature regularly in his misadventures.
Vertigo Films, who were behind the $40m-grossing Streetdance 3D are producing a feature, live-action adaptation of Francesca Simon’s popular stories, with “Wild Child” director Nick Moore at the helm and Lucinda Whiteley on script duties.

Grant (Withnail & I), Prunella Scales (Fawlty Towers), Angelica Huston (The Grifters, The Witches, The Darjeeling Limited), Parminder Nagra (ER), Noel Fielding (The Mighty Boosh), comedienne Jo Brand and Mathew Horne (Gavin and Stacey) are all on board, with Theo Stevenson (Fred Claus, In Bruges) cast as the eponymous Henry.

Update: Theo Stevenson (pictured) was selected as the most horrid boy. Horrid enough, at least, to play the title character in Horrid Henry: The Movie. If you saw Fred Claus, he played the 6-year old version of Santa. The "Horrid Henry" books are about the boy who leads The Purple Hand Gang in battling the tyranny of adults. Anjelica Huston (When in Rome, Queen Clarion in the "Tinkerbell" DVDs) will play Miss Battle-Axe, "ER" star Parminder Nagra (Ella Enchanted) will be Miss Lovely and Richard E. Grant (Penelope) will play a rival headmaster. Wild Child director Nick Moore has scheduled filming to last seven weeks and is planned to be released this summer in 3D.
Horrid Henry is the second most popular book character in the United Kingdom (first would be Harry Potter). The books have sold 16 million.
