UK filmmaker Eran Creevy has signed on to true crime action-comedy The King Of Sting, produced and financed by Claudia Bluemhuber’s Swiss company Silver Reel.
Creevy is currently writing the screenplay, based on Craig Glazer’s 2010 novel The King Of Sting: The Amazing True Story of a Modern American Outlaw.
Bluemhuber will develop, finance and produce the feature for Silver Reel, and is in Cannes discussing the project with buyers.
The story is inspired by Glazer’s own experience as a college student who goes on a two-year spree of stings, posing as police, IRS agents and hotel managers.

“Jurassic World Dominion” and “The Intouchables” star Omar Sy has been tapped to lead John Woo’s reimagining of his 1989 film “The Killers” for Universal Pictures.
The crime action thriller followed a top-tier mob assassin named Jeffrey, who decides to retire after he accidentally blinds a nightclub singer who gets caught in the crossfire of one of his hit jobs. Before quitting his beloved profession, he takes one last job to pay for her sight-restoring operation, only to be double-crossed. He then teams up with a rogue police officer to set things straight.
Woo, the auteur director of movies like “Face/Off,” “Red Cliff” and “A Better Tomorrow,” will also produce the reboot. Writing partners Matthew Stuecken and Josh Campbell (“10 Cloverfield Lane”), along with as Eran Creevy (“Welcome to the Punch,” “Collide”) and Brian Helgeland (“42,” “Legend,” “Spenser Confidential”) wrote the screenplay.

More than two decades on, Heat is still an important film. We look at how Michael Mann's research made for a powerful crime drama.
Cool, measured, melancholy and stylish, Michael Mann's Heat was a box office hit in 1995, and 18 years on, its impact can still be felt. A story about two weary men on either side of the law - one a cop married to his profession, the other a career criminal with no intention of going straight - Heat is also a movie about Los Angeles, in all its sparkly opulence and grimy malaise. Other directors have attempted to bottle some of Heat's atmosphere and move it to another city, whether it be London (see The Sweeney or the visually striking Welcome To The Punch) or Gotham, as seen in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight: look at the way Nolan and cinematographer...

Collide stars Nicholas Hoult as an American car thief and ex-drug dealer who gets involved in a cockamamie German cocaine heist in order to pay for a kidney transplant for his girlfriend (Felicity Jones) and ends up on the wrong side of a psycho trafficker (Anthony Hopkins) in a powder-blue suit. That’s more melodrama than the film needs, because Collide (titled Autobahn outside the States) has been put on this Earth for one purpose: solid, wholesome car-on-road, car-on-car action. Its English director, Eran Creevy (Welcome To The Punch), handles this with due competence—screeching tires, growling engines, grips tightening on steering wheels, and windshields shattering into glass confetti, cut from the usual surfeit of angles. The rest is unexceptional, a hodgepodge of corny voice-over and repetitive, anticlimactic plotting, with Hoult and Jones miscast as a couple of party-hardy American expats. But it isn’t unpleasant to look at.

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
This Past Weekend:
Presidents' Day weekend was an interesting one at the box office, and as with most holiday weekends, it was particularly difficult to figure out how things might fare, other than The Lego Batman Movie, which remained at #1 with almost $45 million over the four-day weekend. Fifty Shades Darker followed with $21.3 million, about a 50% drop. Last week, I thought that the Ice Cub comedy Fist Fight would beat The Great Wall, although it seemed like it could be a close race. Nope. Matt Damon’s action epic came in third place with $21.6 million, which is a couple million more than my original prediction, but The Fist Fight fell short of my prediction by almost $10 million, grossing $14.5 million in its first four days.

Starring Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins, Collide is a new action thriller from director Eran Creevy (Welcome to the Punch). Well, I say new, but Creevy’s film is one of handful of movies trapped in release limbo following the bankruptcy issues faced by Relativity Media.
After a heist goes terribly wrong, Casey Stein (Nicholas Hoult) finds himself on the run from a ruthless gang headed by mob boss Hagen (Anthony Hopkins). Now Casey has precious cargo that belongs to Hagen, who will stop at nothing to retrieve it. Left with no choice, Casey calls his former employer and drug smuggler Geran (Ben Kingsley) to protect his long-time girlfriend Juliette before Hagen gets his hands on her. Casey sets out on an adrenaline-fueled car chase on the German highways to save the love of his life before it’s too late.

Geez, Open Road are really kicking off 2017 by getting their garbage out of the way. Last weekend they opened the Jamie Foxx vehicle “Sleepless” without screening it for press, and watched it tank hard over the holiday weekend. And next month comes the frequently delayed “Collide,” and I also won’t be surprised if it also opens without being shown to critics.

This August, Noel Clarke completes the trilogy that he started with Kidulthood and continued with Adulthood.
The new film is Brotherhood, that Clarke is directing from his own screenplay. And we have both a 12A rated trailer, and a more explicit promo for the movie. Do not go watching the latter if you’re young and impressionable.
Finally, here’s the synopsis…
BrOTHERHOOD follows Sam as he faces up to the new world after Adulthood and realises it also comes with new problems and new challenges. Sam knows that to survive he must face his issues head on, and knows he will require old friends to help him survive new dangers. How far would you go for the one you love? That’s a tagline that’s been tethered to umpteen drama/thriller/crime flicks over the years, where a character is thrust into such a perilous situation that it leaves their significant other with little choice but to maneuver around a series of obstacles – both literal and figurative – to ensure their safety.
Another movie to hew close those hackneyed conventions is this summer’s heist movie Collide, an action-packed romp that finds Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road, X-Men: Apocalypse) in the role of Casey Stein, an Average Joe who is ready to risk life and limb to save his ailing girlfriend, Juliette (Felicity Jones).
In order to afford those astronomical medical bills for a kidney transplant, Hoult’s protagonist returns to a life he thought was far behind him – smuggling precious cargo for a group of powerful mob bosses.

Shot way back in 2014, there has been little heard since about "Collide" — formerly known as "Autobahn." The latest from director Eran Creevy ("Welcome To The Punch") is a full-throttle action flick starring Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones, while Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins bring some vintage flavor to the proceedings, and a new international trailer gives another little peek at what's coming. Read More: Watch: Kristen Stewart & Nicholas Hoult Begin To Show Love In The First Clip From 'Equals' The premise for this one is fairly simple, with a young man forced to go on the run from the job after a heist goes wrong. He hits the autobahn with some flashy vehicles to make his escape, while enlisting the help of his drug smuggling former employer to protect his girlfriend from the mob. "Collide" will open on October 30th in the U.S. via Open Road.

One of the many projects caught amidst the maelstrom that is Relativity’s bankruptcy is Eran Creevy’s (Welcome to the Punch) action vehicle Collide. Indeed, the jury’s still out on when we’ll get to see the director’s bombastic feature in theaters, with a distributor yet to swoop in to pick up the rights for the film – and going off today’s first trailer, we’re not too surprised.
Harsh though that may be, Creevy’s Collide‘s first clip is a mish-mash of action genre tropes blended into one semi-coherent whole. Starring Mad Max: Fury Road and Kill Your Friends alum Nicholas Hoult, the heist thriller has him play Casey Stein, a rookie thief who finds himself in deep with the sharks when a routine smash-and-grab spirals out of control.
On the run and seeking cover, Casey makes a desperate, last-ditch attempt to contact his former...

Update: Open Road has picked up the film for an April 1st, 2016 release. See the original story below.
Once set to be released this month, Autobahn (aka Collide) is now missing from the slate due to Relativity Media’s financial collapse, but with an international release around the corner, we now have the first trailer. Coming from Welcome to the Punch director Eran Creevy, the action thriller stars Nicholas Hoult, Felicity Jones, Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins.
The plot, mapped out by the helmer and co-scribe F. Scott Frazier, follows an American tourist who ends up working with some Turkish toughs but, unsurprisingly, winds up in trouble. Before long, the man and his girlfriend seek to free themselves from any perilous entanglements while running through Munich.
The first trailer seems to favor its global action audience over viewers looking for dramatic tension, but that’s to be expected considering its an international preview.

It's not clear when we'll get to see "Collide" —formerly known as "Autobahn"— as it's one of those movies caught up in Relativity's bankruptcy woes, but one thing is clear: this hardly looks like a movie that would've been a financial boon. The first teaser for the movie is here, so you better buckle up. Eran Creevy ("Welcome To The Punch") directs this movie about a young man on the run from a mob boss, while....does it matter? We've seen the variation on this story a million times before. Anthony Hopkins shows up take his Hannibal Lecter-esque persona for yet another spin, Ben Kingsley is similarly slumming, and the immensely talented Felicity Jones should've chosen better. And leading it all the way is Nicholas Hoult. With Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge and no fewer than three Avatar sequels in his near future, Sam Worthington is still adding projects to his roster. The latest is The Titan, a sci-fi adventure from first-time director Lennart Ruff and screenwriter Max Hurwitz (Hell On Wheels). Luther's Ruth Wilson will co-star, along with Sofia Boutella (Kingsman, Star Trek Beyond). For Worthington, of course, there's a whiff of the familiar about that title. But nothing will clash or wrath this time, and no krakens will be released. This one's about a military family participating in a revolutionary experiment about genetic evolution in space.Voltage Pictures (The Hurt Locker) are behind the film, which they'll be hawking at Tiff next month. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister), Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh (Welcome To The Punch), and Arash Amel (Grace Of Monaco) are producing. Amel also came up with the pitch that Hurwitz based the screenplay on.

Academy Award nominated filmmaker David Fincher is renowned for many things – tense drama, intriguing plot twists, and even the odd Grammy-winning music video – but comedy has, so far, not been one of his signature moves. This is about to change, however, as HBO have handed a series order to Fincher, for his 1980s-set music video comedy series – currently known as Video Synchronicity.
The half hour show is led by Robby – a young, naïve, good-natured college drop-out, who decides to relocate to Hollywood and achieve his dream of shooting an epic science fiction movie. When the situation proves itself to be somewhat more challenging than he had previously assumed, he gets himself a job at a company that produces music videos. His position as production assistant causes him to cross paths with many different characters – from directors to on-screen talent, and from the lowliest crew member to the highest paid executive...

Birdman executive producer Sarah Johnson has filed a $70m lawsuit against Worldview Entertainment.
Johnson filed the suit on March 12, claiming that the company behind the Oscar-winning film misused her investments and lied to her about its financial situation for years.
She says that this has caused her to lose around the sum of $20 million, and as a result is seeking $70m in damages for a total of 28 counts of alleged mismanagement, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The executive producer has made investments to Worldview since 2011, for projects including Welcome to the Punch, The Immigrant and Devil's Knot.
The suit claims that the company "made repeated representations to Plaintiff regarding the status of her investments in order to induce her to make continued financial contributions to the Worldview Film Funds".
It is also alleged that former CEO Christopher Woodrow and Maria Cestone told Johnson that she would receive a 20% return on her investments,...

While Gareth Edwards used Monsters to launch his career to the heights of Godzilla and Star Wars, his debut is also turning into a franchise. Monsters: Dark Continent doesn’t see the helmer return, but it does expand his world, following Johnny Harris (Welcome To The Punch), Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and Joe Dempsie (Game Of Thrones) in the story of […]...

"Killin' martians, baby." The most recent trailer for Monsters: Dark Continent, the sequel to Godzilla director Gareth Edwards' breakthrough indie sensation, showed off the larger scale story at the center of the follow-up. Now we get to see even more action as we follow a group of soldiers tasked with taking down some of the creatures across the globe. Thankfully though, it doesn't seem like they've completely thrown out the character-driven angle that made the first film so great as there seem to be hints of drama akin to Zero Dark Thirty or Black Hawk Down. This actually looks pretty decent, so we hope it ends up in the Us. Here's the new UK trailer for Tom Green's Monsters: Dark Continent from Vertigo Films UK: Monsters: Dark Continent is the sequel to Gareth Edwards' Monsters. Tom Green ("Misfits") makes his feature directorial debut with a script from Jay Basu.

This week annoyed by a loudmouth blogger of some repute, who declared anime for paedophiles and insulted more or less the whole of Japanese culture, I decided to watch Netflix original anime Knights of Sidonia. His comments have widely been circulated and condemned by many people and he’s just made himself look a fool, and all this just because Gus Van Sant might be directing a Death Note movie. I recognise that anime is not for everyone but still, by dismissing all of it you are missing out on an awful lot of classic work and influential stuff.
Knights of Sidonia has been billed as a Netflix original but it’s quite hard to imagine that they would have been involved in the production of something like this, it’s pretty far out there even for anime and its more likely that Netflix have done what they did with...
