Though he acknowledges that his original spec script has likely been tinkered with ever since it was first turned in to Warner Bros., God Particle scribe Oren Uziel has shed new light on his proposal for the Mortal Kombat movie, which he compares to an R-rated version of The Avengers.
Per Collider, Uziel began by detailing his long history with the video game adaptation, which tapped Simon McQuoid to direct almost six months ago – for what it’s worth, Aquaman helmer James Wan is also attached to produce. Oren Uziel was actually one of the first writers to take a crack at the live-action Mortal Kombat reboot, but an internal changeover at Warner resulted in his pitch sitting on the shelf for years, eventually leading to Uziel becoming involved in the online short film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth.

More and more it feels like Mortal Kombat is becoming the new Crow: a film remake/reboot that, for one reason or another, can't seem to gain any real traction. Back in 2010, a short entitled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth hit the web and garnered a lot of fan support. This was the R-rated take on the franchise that fans have been craving since the game came out in the 90s.
The film's director, Kevin Tancharoen, went on to direct a web series for Warner Premier, and even signed on to direct a feature film. But, of course, nothing in Hollywood is that easy. In 2013, Tancharoen exited the project to pursue other creative endeavors.

From Assassin’s Creed to The Witcher, via Mass Effect, Minecraft and maybe more Warcraft...
Latest update: Uncharted delayed.
In the years since Den Of Geek first sprung into existence, we’ve consistently kept an eye on the videogames that have been touted for the big screen treatment. We’ve tried to list them all in a big article a few times before, and it feels like the time has come to pull a new version together.
If we haven’t heard anything about a certain videogame movie in two years or more, it seems safe to assume that it’s quietly been binned. That’s why you won’t find the likes of BioShock, Devil May Cry, Far Cry, Gears Of War, Halo, Heavy Rain and Rollercoaster Tycoon on this list. If we get proven wrong on any of those, we’ll update this article as more information comes to light.

Over the years that Den Of Geek has been going, we've regularly been charting the assortment of reboots and remakes that are making their way through the Hollywood system. This, then, is the current state of play. It looks like there.s no fatality that can keep the Mortal Kombat film franchise down. While there have been attempts to get the movies going again we haven.t seen anything on the big screen since 1997. Now however, there.s a big name involved in rebooting the movies who has earned himself a lot of Hollywood credibility recently. Furious 7 director James Wan is on board to produce the new film. The Tracking Board has the details that Wan, who directed the fifth highest grossing movie of all time, should be able to bring some new life to the perpetually stalled project. The movie is being written by David Callaham (The Expendables) and Oren Uziel, who wrote the short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth which spawned the well-received web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. The film will be a standalone reboot not connected to the previous films or the web series.

Fans of Machinima’s Mortal Kombat: Legacy II digital series will soon have physical proof of their obsession. The series arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on October 14 and is already available for pre-order. Based on the famous Mortal Kombat video game franchise, the second season of the live-action series introduced viewers to the character Raiden, who must fight the Outworld’s evil forces along with his recruits. The series was produced by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and directed by Kevin Tancharoen (of Mortal Kombat: Rebirth). Legacy II has been a huge hit with the online video masses, garnering over 19 million views since its release in 2013 and claiming the 2014 Streamy Award for Best Choreography. It’s little surprise then that it’s taking its popularity to DVD. You can pre-order the Mortal Kombat: Legacy II Blu-ray for $19.98 or the DVD for $12.97 from Warner Bros.’s online shop before their release on October 14. Additionally,...

New Line Cinema’s remake of Mortal Kombat has been puttering around for about three years now without gaining much steam. Up until now it actually had director Kevin Tancharoen attached to it, but alas that is no more as Tancharoen recently dropped out of the remake.
Kevin Tancharoen took to Twitter to inform the world that after three years he would not be directing the proposed remake of the film. It’s kind of a rough thing to have happen, given that Tancharoen has been attached for so long. He’s also the director of a short film, “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth,” which he used initially as a pitch for a feature length-project. All in all, it was a pretty impressive idea, so it’s sad to see Tancharoen go.

Kevin Tancharoen has announced his departure from the Mortal Kombat reboot.
It was reported in 2011 that the popular video game was to be revamped into a film feature by Warner Bros and New Line Cinema, with Tancharoen attached to direct the project.
However, Tancharoen posted on his Twitter account on Friday (October 25): "After 3 years of Kombat, I've decided to move on to other creative opportunities. I wish everyone involved in the movie big success."
Tancharoen previously directed a hit live-action short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which was screened on YouTube. The director-choreographer then went on to create the popular web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy.
The filmmaker discussed his progress on the movie just last month.
He said : "The script is in a good place. We're just kind of figuring out the budget and locations and that whole process is where we're at."

Over the past few months, we witnessed amazing fan-generated content rack up millions of views and get national attention. From the recent Wonder Woman fan film to the latest episode of Super Hero Beat Down, creators are spending large amounts of time and money working on intellectual property that they cannot monetize. And that fan-driven content has always done incredibly well on YouTube. One of the first big hits of the genre on the platform was Batman: Dead End, released in 2003. One of the next was Kevin Tancharoen’s Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which Warner Bros. and Machinima then turned into a official web series. Mk:r is actually one of the few examples of fan-created content that made the transition into an officially approved and financed series. That trajectory has seldom been repeated. Content created by fans with the use of intellectual property they don't own generally has a very limited shelf life on YouTube.

Kevin Tancharoen came almost completely out of nowhere (at least with Mortal Kombat fans) when he released a viral teaser called Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, a gritty, realistic take on the classic fighting game series. Star not confirmed to reprise role of Agent J as screenwriter Oren Uziel begins followup to franchise-best third film
Men in Black will be revived for a fourth instalment of the science fiction film saga – but this time they could be fighting Earth-dwelling extra-terrestrials without original star Will Smith.

When you think about the ridiculous behind the scenes problems that Men In Black III had - including long delays so that the script could be almost totally rewritten - the movie itself is actually not that bad. The story is fairly stupid and there are some gaping plot holes, but the whole thing is kept together by the never-yielding charisma of Will Smith and the spot-on Tommy Lee Jones impression by Josh Brolin (not to mention a funny supporting turn by Michael Stuhlbarg). Audiences responded as well, with the film making $179 million in the United States and a crazy $445 million internationally. Given that success, Sony is going to give it another go. Sony has already set a June 6, 2014 release date for 21 Jump Street 2 with Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum set to return for directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) writing the script. Uziel is currently working on the 21 Jump Street sequel from an early draft written by Hill and Michael Bacall with an expectation to move to Men in Black 4 afterward. Uziel originally found his way into Sony's hands via the genre mash-up of his they acquired, The Kitchen Sink, which sees a pair of teens form an unlikely alliance with vampires and zombies in order to take on a army of invading aliens.

The Mortal Kombat film series has had an odd journey to be sure. The first film, directed by Paul W.S. Director Kevin Tancharoen is well known around these parts for his work on Mortal Kombat: Legacy, one of 2011's great web series debuts. What's less known about the Fame director is that he pitched The Hunger Games to Hollywood before the project was given to Gary Ross, who turned it into a hugely successful hit. Tancharoen, however, has posted up his original pitch trailer on YouTube, where we can see his original vision for the film. To create an accurate representation of his vision, he put together a mash-up trailer, culling together footage from dozens of films to synthesize the Hunger Games adaptation he wanted to put on screen. If the movies Tancharoen chose to include are any indication, his version of The Hunger Games would've been a wild mix of Gladiator, Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, and Firefly, with a nice large helping of Harry Potter and Twlight on the side.

We recently showed you a video created by director Joe Carnahan (The Grey) that was presented to 20th Century Fox as a pitch for the "Daredevil" reboot. The pitch was rejected, which is why Carnahan posted it online. Today, Kevin Tancharoen (Fame, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth) has unveiled a video pitch from several years ago to direct "The Hunger Games." The film eventually went to Gary Ross and became a massive success for Lionsgate. These pitches are basically put together using footage from other movies to demonstrate the pacing, tone and overall vision of the proposed film. Directors usually spend their own money and taken months to put together a package for presentation, which studios reject all the time. But this process has become the standard for big studio films. Check out Tancharoen's pitch below. And you might remember that he previously put together a pitch for a "Mortal Kombat" reboot.

When it comes to "The Hunger Games," we were very pleased with what director Gary Ross cooked up for the film adaptation.
It turned out to be a good movie and a great book-to-film adaptation, and we couldn't imagine it in anyone else's hands. That is, until we saw what "Fame" and "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth" director Kevin Tancharoen presented as a pitch trailer for Lionsgate studio on the project.
Slashfilm unearthed this pitch video Tancharoen submitted as a pseudo-application for the director gig way back when, and it's clear he had a unique vision for the property that more closely adopts the sci-fi and brutality aspects of the story rather than the emotional and political turmoils associated with the Games.

With Joe Carnahan's recently leaked Daredevil pitch videos, movie fans had a chance to see something that we rarely get to see: an early look into the process of dealing with major Hollywood studios. Pitch videos are made to sell the director's vision of a movie, usually by cutting together footage from existing films and trying to make something that represents the tone they're trying to achieve with a hopeful project. Now we have the chance for another look into this method, as /Film has Fame director Kevin Tancharoen's cool pitch video for his take on one of this year's biggest success stories, The Hunger Games. More below! Tancharoen is probably better known as the man who put together the impressive Mortal Kombat: Rebirth video as a pitch for a new take on the Mortal Kombat franchise, which led to a web series and development for a new full length film.

Fans of the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web-series, starring Michael Jai White, Darren Shahlavi, Jeri Ryan and Tamoh Penniket, got some good news during Comic-Con this week. The series, based on the fighting game of the same name, is getting a second season.
The series came about after director Kevin Tancharoen created the short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth as a feature-film pitch for Warner Bros. Sadly, it never got the green light for production with Warner Bros. instead opting to fund an original web-series. Shortly there after Mortal Kombat: Legacy was in production, with the first episode hitting YouTube on April 11, 2011.
While the first season focused mainly on character origins and setting up a new Mortal Kombat universe, Tancharoen has revealed that season two will introduce the actual Mortal Kombat tournament, bringing with it more visual effects and action.

On Wednesday, Cern physicists all but confirmed the existence of the Higgs boson, the so-called “God particle” and a key piece in the subatomic puzzle of our universe. Essentially, the Higgs boson proves the Standard Model, a crucial, nearly 50-year-old theory that helps to explain how the subatomic particles that make up everything interact.
Cern, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, announced this historic discovery at their complex near Geneva, Switzerland. It is the birthplace of the World Wide Web and home to the $10 billion Large Hadron Collider, a particle accelerator on a 17-mile circular track buried in a tunnel 574 ft. below Switzerland and France. 800 trillion particles were collided at up to 7 TeV (teraelectron volts) to yield these findings, which they estimated were accurate down to less than three parts of 10 million. So, they’re pretty sure.

Bloody Disgusting have done some digging in regards to Warner Bros. planned reboot of the Mortal Kombat movie franchise. Apparently it is still moving forward with director Kevin Tancharoen attached, and they have also managed to uncover some details about the basic premise of the movie.. With Kevin Tancharoen still attached to direct from Oren Uziel’s screenplay, we’ve exclusively discovered that the live-action reboot will follow a lowly unlucky supermarket employee who discovers that he has out of this world powers and must decide between good and evil, even though the evil side has helped him discover his true potential and who he really is. Tancharoen and Uziel brought us the short film Mortal Kombat: Rebirth and the subsequent web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy starring Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan. They were impressive enough in their own right but jettisoned many of the fantasy elements in favor...

Sony Pictures has hired Robbie Pickering (Natural Selection) to direct a new sci-fi horror comedy called The Kitchen Sink. The script was written by Oren Uziel (Mortal Kombat: Rebirth). At one point Jonah Hill was in talks to direct the film, but that obviously never happened.
The story follows a group of zombie, vampire, and human teenagers who are forced to band together to take on an deadly alien invasion. They just have to suppress their urge to kill each other to do it.
This sounds like it could be a fun and wacky movie to watch. The concept sounds pretty entertaining, and the script was actually a top choice on the 2010 Black List, so it has got to be solid.

Deadline reports that Robbie Pickering (Natural Selection) has been signed by Sony to direct The Kitchen Sink from writer Oren Uziel. The script appeared on the 2010 edition of the Black List, a yearly master list of the industry’s best unproduced screenplays, and at one point Jonah Hill was in talks to make it his debut as a feature director but Sony has gone with Pickering instead. The Kitchen Sink follows a high school zombie, vampire, and human as they team together to fight off an alien invasion of their town. I’m surprised a werewolf didn’t get tossed in there just for sh*ts and giggles.
Uziel has been keeping himself busy since making the Black List by helping director Kevin Tancharoen reboot the Mortal Kombat franchise; first came the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short that premiered on the internet back in 2010 which took a more gritty and somewhat realistic tone,...

Halo Helljumper Trailer. Dan Wang‘s Halo: Helljumper (2012) web series trailer stars Bradley Rose, Mingyu Chu, Kimberly Carvalho, Tyler La Marr, and Daniel Benhamu. Halo: Helljumper is “a short series of films that follows the life of one human Odst from his enlistment in the Unsc before the Human-Covenant War to around the Fall of Reach. Unlike a lot of soldiers, he was lucky enough to survive through 27 years of a losing battle against a hostile alien civilization, known as the Covenant. Through his experiences, we’re going to expose you to an amazing universe full of devastation, grief, affection, and most importantly, hope.”
Halo: Helljumper is “adapted from the short story ‘Dirt’ by Tobias S. Buckell.” Pretty good production value and entertainment here.

The concept of a "Voltron" live action movie has been floating around Hollywood for years. First 20th Century Fox owned the project, then Relativity scooped it up with Max Makowski at the helm. That version went nowhere, and Atlas Entertainment scooped up another version, which also went nowhere. Then "Conan" scribes Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer started while some epic concept art was released, and a huge bidding war went on over the property earlier this year, but so far nothing has come of a "Voltron" film for the big screen.
That's why "The Totally Rad Show" podcast creator Alex Albrecht has taken matters into his own hands. Why wait for Hollywood to make a "Voltron" movie when he can do it himself, and probably do it better. Enter "Voltron: The End," the three-minute-long "Voltron" short film that proves that a blockbuster adaptation about the Voltron Force definitely should be done.

Back in 1995, enthusiastic audiences showed up for the adaptation of Mortal Kombat, based on the popular video game series. Two years later, those same audiences stayed home for the sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.
Fast-forward 11 years and a reboot is now in the works. Warner Bros. has brought in a huge action director for the job — Kevin Tancharoen, who directed the Fame remake and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie. Wait, what?
Tancharoen was aware of his own reputation, and set out to prove himself with a non-authorized, 8-minute Mortal Kombat short, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, which led to the authorized 10-episode web series Mortal Kombat: Legacy. "I knew nobody would risk putting my name in front of a genre movie," the director recently told The La Times. Mortal Kombat! New Life and New Line
Thanks to a merging of resources, Mortal Kombat might be getting ready to deal out a few fatalities on the big screen once again as Warner Bros seeks to prove that they can turn one of their hit games into a hit movie.
The original 1995 Mortal Kombat film will never be viewed as cinematic greatness but a $122 million box office gross did show that interest was there. The 1997 sequel didn’t do nearly as well. However, a great little short film, Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, that was put together by Oren Uziel and Kevin Tancharoen, led to a kick-ass web series called Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and Warner Bros realized they might be sitting on a blockbuster.
Warner Bros bought Midway Games, the maker of Mortal Kombat, back in 2009 and released the ninth Mortal Kombat game in April. Now, Deadline brings word that the studio...

"Blomkvist and Salander have an odd relationship." Daniel Craig seems to be putting the emotional core of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" a bit lightly in the excerpt from this month's Empire magazine cover story, but that relationship is exactly what the sexy photos released from the issue are highlighting.
From Craig's Blomkvist handcuffed to a chair, to Rooney Mara's Salander blowing cigarette smoke into his mouth, the newest images from the film are showing off director David Fincher's knack for sexy, sexy filmmaking. As if you had any doubts, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is looking much closer to Fincher's work on "Fight Club" than on last year's "The Social Network."

Remember that weird Mortal Kombat: Rebirth viral trailer by director Kevin Tancharoen that led to the nine-part webseries Mortal Kombat: Legacy? Well, it looks like the gift that keeps on giving for Warner Bros, Tancharoen, and Mortal Kombat, as all three are coming together once again for a new Mortal Kombat movie. More details after the break. According to the La Times, Warner Bros.' New Line division will produce the film, which will be directed by Tancharoen, for a 2013 release. Given the success and lean budget of the Legacy webseries, whose nine parts were shot for less than 2 million, Tancharoen anticipates the new movie's budget to come in "well under $100 million." So what...

Warner Bros. has asked the director of the recent Mortal Kombat web series to develop a new movie based on the video game franchise.
Kevin Tancharoen directed a short Mortal Kombat: Rebirth film as a proof of concept to the studio that a web series could be done. After generating online buzz, Warner Bros. gave Tancharoen the greenlight to film a 10-part online series which rolled out this past summer to decent viewing numbers. Now the studio has issued a go-ahead for Tancharoen and his writer Oren Uriel to develop a feature length screenplay for a rebooted Mortal Kombat film.
It's been 13 years since the last Mortal Kombat movie (subtitled Armageddon) came out in theaters and effectively ended the movie franchise. Midway games continued to make Mk games but eventually fell into bankruptcy, opening the door for Warner Bros.' game division to pick up the fighting game's rights at a firesale price.

So it looks like Kevin Tancharoen is going to get his chance to bring the fighting video game Mortal Kombat franchise back to the big screen. This is the guy who directed the Fame remake and the Glee 3D concert movie but none of those failures won him this gig. It was instead the virals that got fanboys tongues wagging last summer when he self-financed a promo trailer for what he could do if he was even given the chance to bring the world’s greatest fighting tournament back into theatres.
Titled Mortal Kombat: Rebirth, the original 8 minute viral was of surprisingly high production value and included some recognisable faces, including Michael Jai White as the character Jax, Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade and explained in length the back-stories for Reptile, Baraka, Scorpion and a really well put together fight scene involving Johnny Cage.

The news came yesterday that 'Fame' and 'Glee: The 3D Concert Movie' director, Kevin Tancharoen had been assigned to a 'Mortal Kombat' reboot after impressing Warner Bros. with his short film, 'Mortal Kombat: Rebirth' and the web series, 'Mortal Kombat: Legacy.' Already, the director is doing interviews about his vision for the reboot. Despite the mystic nature of the 'Mortal Kombat' video games, Tancharoen is sticking with the realistic vibe that landed him the gig. He told the Los Angeles Times: "Yes, my sensibilities lean more toward realism as opposed to the more mythological stuff that Mortal Kombat automatically has. You can expect more of that instinct in the feature version. It will be more realistic and gritty than the last two movies, but also a very big story." Comic book inspired films shared a similar tone with video game inspired ones for...

Mortal Kombat is going back into the trenches, being made into a movie once again by New Line. The story about how the popular 1990s videogame got back into action is pretty interesting.
It all started with Madonna and Britney Spears choreographer Kevin Tancharoen, who was passionate about the fighting videogame. Having apparently learned from his former employer, Madonna, how to reinvent yourself, Tancharoen set out to direct a Mortal Kombat movie. Tancharoen had made the movie into directing dance-related projects years before, starting with the concert doc "Britney Spears Live from Miami" and went on to helm the Fame remake and Glee: The 3D Concert Movie. To prove himself in this very different arena, he made a short film to show the idea he had to make the videogame into a movie, hiring a solid writer and name actors (The Dark Knight's Michael Jai White and "Star Trek...
