When Chris Wedge's animated film "Ice Age" first came out in 2002, it was considered novel and striking for many reasons. It was set in prehistoric times yet eschewed dinosaurs in favor of megafauna living in the Pleistocene Epoch. The three main characters were a sloth named Sid (John Leguizamo), a smilodon named Diego (Denis Leary), and a mammoth named Manfred aka Manny (Ray Romano), and they were engaged in a great migration to flee the oncoming Ice Age. The plot of their first movie apes John Ford's 1946 Western "3 Godfathers," as the three animals discover a human infant that they must keep safe and deliver back to the then-evolutionarily-novel homo sapiens living nearby.
The design of "Ice Age" was striking, aiming for broad, stylized characters that were markedly different from the friendly, big-eyed protagonists of Disney pictures. It certainly helped that the "Ice Age" movies featured a character named Scrat,...

Exclusive: There is a hot bidding war heating up for Mattel’s animated take of Bob the Builder with heavy interest from Netflix, Amazon MGM Studios, and DreamWorks Animation and others. We hear that offers have been made, and that no one is merely circling for this animated feature which speaks greatly to the Latino and Hispanic community.
The project, which we told you about last month, has Jennifer Lopez’s Nuyorican Productions producing with ShadowMachine (which was behind Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio) and In the Heights star Anthony Ramos. In fact, it was Ramos idea to deliver a Bob the Builder set in Puerto Rico, one which is about the resilience of the Latino culture. Bob’s motto in Spanish: “Si se puede” aka “Yes we can.” Felipe Vargas is adapting.

Filming kicked off this month on the HBO Max series “Welcome to Derry,” an official prequel to the two Stephen King-based It movies from Andy Muschietti. Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Muschietti shared a first-look behind the scenes photo from the set.
The photo, which you’ll find below, shows us the office door of Derry’s Chief of Police Clint Bowers, a new member of the Bowers family we’ll be meeting in “Welcome to Derry.”
Henry Bowers was of course the leader of the Bowers Gang that tormented the Losers’ Club in Stephen King’s classic horror story, and we’ve also met Butch Bowers (Henry’s father) and Connor Bowers (Henry’s cousin) in Muschietti’s movie adaptations. Butch Bowers was a cop, so it makes sense that another family member was the Chief of Police some years prior.
But who exactly is Clint Bowers?...

What began as an unlikely friendship between three misfit creatures — a sloth, a mammoth believing he was the last of his kind and a saber-toothed tiger that doesn’t want to be violent — in “Ice Age” (2002) has stretched into a storied saga of the trio’s journey through all kinds of realms as warming slowly melts their world across five “Ice Age” movies and one spinoff.

Coming soon from HBO Max, the series “Welcome to Derry” will serve as a prequel to the two Stephen King movies from Andy Muschietti, but will Bill Skarsgård be returning?
Bill Skarsgård of course played the iconic killer clown in Muschietti’s two movies, but he reveals in a new chat with Jake’s Takes that at this moment he’s *not* involved in the series.
“We’ll see what they come up with and what they do with it. I’m not currently involved in it,” Skarsgård explains to the show. “If someone else gets to [play Pennywise], my advice is to make it your own. Have fun with it. What I thought was so pleasurable about that character was how incredibly abstract he was. The book is really a gift that way.”
You can watch the full interview with Skarsgård in the video below.

Hulu’s list of new releases for March 2023 features an event long in the making.
On March 6, History of the World, Part II will finally arrive more than 40 years after Mel Brooks’ classic comedy History of the World, Part I. first premiered. Of course, Brooks never had any intention of adding future parts to his ahistorical film, but that yet makes the arrival of Part II so many years later even funnier. Described as a four-night comedy event, History of the World, Part II will release two episodes a day through March 9. Brooks returns to write and executive produce this series and will star alongside Nick Kroll, Wanda Sykes, and Ike Barinholtz. Guest stars include…everyone. Basically just everyone.

It’s ironic but unavoidable that the greatest annual celebration of film should be a television special — but that’s just how it is. March often means Oscar season, a time for cinephiles to boot up that small screen you use for movies and use it to see if they win any awards during a telecast.
If you don’t have TV service anymore, Hulu has you covered with a pre-Oscars telecast as well as two red carpet specials before and after the main event. Though the ceremony itself won’t be livestreamed on Hulu, it will be added the next morning, like regular ABC programming. Awards viewership has been in general decline over the past several years, but next-day streaming gives curious viewers a chance to join the conversation and boost those Oscar ratings after the live show. It’s also a chance for superfans to pause and rewind...

From the very start, “Ice Age” transported audiences to a world of enchantment and hilarity. It has since become one of the most beloved and top-grossing animated franchises in cinematic history.
It’s easy to see why due to its thrilling adventures, lighthearted humor, meaningful messages, and iconic characters like Sid (John Leguizamo), Manny (Ray Romano), Ellie (Queen Latifah), Diego (Denis Leary), Shira (Jennifer Lopez) and Scrat(Chris Wedge).
The 2002 blockbuster hit “Ice Age” marked the pioneering, feature-length debut of Blue Sky Studios. This success spawned a series of Ice Age films and short animations that extended beyond the original story while introducing lovable new characters to viewers worldwide.
Unfortunately, Blue Sky Studios was forced to close its doors in 2021 after Disney acquired their former distribution partner 20th Century Fox. The good news is that Disney remains committed to continuing the beloved “Ice Age” saga, so fans can expect more...

On the way from HBO Max is a series titled “Welcome to Derry,” which will serve as a prequel to the two Stephen King movies from Andy Muschietti. Speaking with Variety, HBO Max head of originals Sarah Aubrey has teased a little bit of what we can expect from the upcoming series, while also noting that Muschietti is deeply involved with the show’s development.
“We have been working with Jason Fuchs, Brad Caleb Kane, Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti very closely,” Aubrey tells the outlet. “They’re so deep into this mythology and they have such a firm handle on the storytelling around these characters and also the demented scares that they’re putting into things. Sometimes I’m, like, ‘What’s wrong with you?’ Just all the wild ways they think up to terrify us. You’ll be hearing more concretely about that development very soon.”

Earlier this year, we heard that a series called Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to the adaptations of Stephen King’s It that were directed by Andy Muschietti, was set up at the HBO Max streaming service. Writer Shelley Meals revealed that the show’s writers room had opened back in June. Now Variety reports that Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane are serving as the showrunners on Welcome to Derry.
Fuchs, who was a co-producer on It: Chapter Two, was brought onto this project by Andy Muschietti and his producing partner / sister Barbara Muschietti. Fuchs and the Muschiettis have also written the script for the first episode of Welcome to Derry, which Andy is expected to direct.
The Muschiettis are executive producing Welcome to Derry through their company Double Dream. Fuchs and Kane are also executive producing the series, which is coming to us from Warner Bros. Television.

As we learned early this year, HBO Max is now developing a series titled “Welcome to Derry,” which will serve as a prequel to the two Stephen King movies from Andy Muschietti.
Variety had reported back in March, “The series will begin in the 1960s in the time leading up to the events of It: Part One, the 2017 film based on the Stephen King horror novel. The story is also said to include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown.” Variety also noted that Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti are back on board to produce the series.
So what’s the latest on that project? Well it looks like HBO Max is definitely moving forward with “Welcome to Derry,” as two showrunners have been appointed to lead the series.
Variety reports today that Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will serve as co-showrunners. Variety notes, “HBO Max has given the show a series production commitment.

Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane will serve as co-showrunners on the “It” prequel series currently in the works at HBO Max from Andy and Barbara Muschietti , Variety has learned exclusively.
The show, currently titled “Welcome to Derry,” was first reported as being in development in March. HBO Max has given the show a series production commitment. Exact plot details remain under wraps, aside from the fact that the show will serve as a prequel to the recent films “It: Chapter One” and “It: Chapter Two,” which were released in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
It was previously reported that Fuchs wrote the teleplay for the first episode of the series, based on a story he wrote along with the Muschiettis, who brought Fuchs onto the project. As one of the longest-running American sitcoms, there is no corner of the entertainment industry where "The Simpsons" hasn't entrenched its mark. Even during the series' early years, you would have a better chance of escaping a grizzly bear on its home turf than someone wearing an "eat my shorts" or "don't have a cow, man" T-shirt. The dysfunctional animated family is an exemplary fixture of adult animation that has endured for well over three decades and 33 seasons of television.
On top of everything else, "The Simpsons" is endlessly quotable. You could remember your favorites and still only chip away a sliver of the iceberg. You'll never run out, whether it comes out of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, or any other outlandish resident of Springfield. But the creative team behind this long-running series also knows how to revel in the quieter, and sometimes silent moments.

Hawkeye directors Bert & Bertie are staying in the Disney family. The duo, who helmed three episodes of the Marvel/Disney+ series, have signed on to direct a feature for Disney based on the theme park attraction Big Thunder Mountain.
Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment and Ridley Scott’s Scott Free will produce, with Bert & Bertie directing from a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney, the married screenwriting pair whose credits include Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and the 2017 Power Rangers reboot.

The “Ice Age” series began in 2002 with Ice Age, a mildly entertaining if not completely forgettable film which told the story of three unlikely friends trying to survive an extinction event with one another. The film starred Ray Romano as Manny, John Leguizamo as Sid, and Denis Leary as Diego. It was a hit and a franchise blossomed.
Subsequent entries – Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006), only notable in that it featured the introduction of Queen Latifah’s Ellie (as well as her “brothers” Eddie and Crash) to the group; Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009); Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012); and Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) – suffered from the law of diminishing returns as each sequel grew staler and tread more on the perpetuation of sight gags and cheap humor than the familial relationship between the main characters. Earlier this year, MTV Studios revealed that they were bringing the classic dating show as well as Punk’d to Quibi. The original Singled Out ran from 1995 to 1998 with Chris Hardwick and Jenny McCarthy as hosts. Each episode featured a group of 50 singles competing for a date with one contestant. The new iteration will hook up a new generation of singles, of all genders and sexual preferences, seeking love in 20 bite-sized episodes. Reflective of today’s dating landscape, where everyone is connected, the series will bring online dating to life with a twist — the main dater is linked to the pool of diverse singles through social media.

The election for the Writers Guild of America West remains heated with dissidents attacking the guild’s hardline stance on Hollywood agents.
The latest salvo came Sunday from “Wonder Woman” writer Jason Fuchs, who’s part of the WGA Forward Together slate. His group is contending that the WGA needs to get back to the bargaining table after two months of staying away from bargaining. Fuchs, who is seeking a seat on the WGA West board, hasa story credit on “Wonder Woman,” a shared screenplay credit for “Ice Age: Continental Drift” and is a co-producer for “It: Chapter 2.”
“The current approach of our WGA-w leadership is a failing strategy,” Fuchs said. “Negotiating with small and mid-size agencies — most of which don’t even package — does nothing to put pressure on the Big 4, and this strategy is exactly the reason for this long and pointless stalemate. It does nothing to raise writers’ incomes,...

Screenwriter Jason Fuchs has a message for Oscar-winning screenwriter Adam McKay: “Dissent is not disloyalty.” Fuchs, who’s running for the WGA board as opposition leader Phyllis Nagy’s running mate, took issue with McKay’s recent statement that opponents of the guild’s leadership should not be making public comments in opposition to the guild’s four-month standoff with Hollywood’s talent agents.
“The WGA is a union,” McKay tweeted the other day. “The whole reason they call a ‘union’ a union is because our strength comes entirely from staying united. If members disagree that’s fine, but it should stay in house. Seems pretty basic but a few people seem to have forgotten.”
“When he refers to ‘a few people,’ to be clear, he’s talking about me,” Fuchs said in a statement posted on the opposition slate’s website. “He’s talking about Phyllis Nagy who is running for president.

The classic British sci-fi property, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, is getting a new adaptation, and this time it will be developed as a TV series for Hulu. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy was created by Douglas Adams and this new series is being developed by showrunner, writer, and producer Carlton Cuse, who has worked on Lost, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Locke & Key. The series will also be written by Jason Fuchs who is best know for his work on Wonder Woman and Ice Age: Continental Drift.
Cuse and Fuchs are both big fans of these property and the series follows the intergalactic adventures of Arthur Dent, “a hapless Englishman, following the destruction of the Earth by the Vogons, a race of unpleasant and bureaucratic aliens.”
This is sure to make for a great series. I enjoyed the 2005 movie, but I’ve always felt...
