I really difficult to establish how Mimesis I liked it and also how he managed to be appreciated. Really a good movie!
Roger Fratter I consider a director really very good and very interesting to follow as part of the Italian indie filmmaking, and I must admit that this time has achieved his goal, namely to direct a truly remarkable film, which like the previous "In love with death "makes use of an external production (so nothing to do with the economic constraints of the first films, which were in fact self-produced, but no less valid) that bestows a certain budget, guaranteeing a product qualitatively high enough and at the same time not betraying its nature indie. Mimesis and assume a thriller or better (and I might coin a term) a lesbian thriller, a genre that was very popular in the nineties in the US, of which involuntarily inspired, I stress is inspired as this is a deeply film italic, with its originality and with a strong personal touch.
The title hits: Mimesis, a Greek word which means "imitation" or "representation" and on this device that adapts and perfectly fits the whole story. Linda, Anna and Roxy three girls joined by a prominent homosexual relationship they share the same apartment, until one day it mysteriously disappears. The police groping in the dark and Lisa's twin sister's disappearance decides to investigate and discover its fortunes. To do so decides to take in every way the appearance of the sister, reliving his life and discovering a dark and disturbing world populated by atypical characters and certainly not devoid of morality, including one particularly crazy, the designer Marco comic on the verge of a crisis of inspiration. The strength of the story lies in the fact that the audience for the duration of the film will question if in fact Lisa and Roxy are not the same person. On this detail I will not reveal anything, I leave the pleasure of discovering (or interpret) to those who will be challenged to see.
The film in question found it very complete, not lacking anything.
For example, if Anabolyzer is considered the most violent film, or Abraxas as the director trash films, Mimesis is the most alluring and beautiful scenes of lesbian soft core (without excess of course) and that excites not just the audience, even for streets really very beautiful and seductive actresses, including a "default" Saba Wesser, charm and an incredible sexy appeal. Without anything even remove Tanya Scott and Margaret of Sarno other looker. Beautiful but also brave in interpreting their characters.
The male cast I have not much to say, the actors are proving attractive and well placed, but which in the end will detect only supporting characters, because as it should be, given the nature of the film is to lead the (trio) female cast .
As already mentioned this being the thriller genre films, will not miss a good dose of mystery and twists, the last quarter of an hour reaches an unexpected climax that will serve not only to unravel the tangle, but also to enjoy well done gore scenes , which, although not comparable to what Fratter showed in the previous films, are to be considered worthy of note.
The theme song is really very good workmanship and that gives an extra boost to the film, composed in a truly flawless targeted to give the right touch, a mix of drama / madness, as well as at the same time the typical provincial settings as usual They are researched and chosen with care.
Of note, finally, that Mimesis is the latest film to have the typical features (Thriller / Horror / splatter ...) that have always characterized the films of Fratter.
In fact from Cymbaline onwards until Femininity Femininity (in) body will tend to focus on general introspective ... so devoted to so-called art films and introducing so different and new elements, but while maintaining its typical trademark, or the desire to experiment in a competent and professional recreating works pleasant and interesting and what is not unimportant ... beautiful women !!
