There are a lot of restrictions when it comes to children’s media. Not only are networks very strict about what they allow to be put in their projects, but parents take it upon themselves to make sure the content their children are consuming is age-appropriate. Balancing so many rules and regulations can be quite tedious when one is trying to create something successful.
Batman: The Animated Series
Showrunners and writers are forced to obsessively think through every scene they add, and even then, getting no feedback from angry parents is rare. Such limitations can be especially challenging when creating a superhero series, a genre that is well known for pushing the boundaries of what is appropriate for kids to watch.

DC superhero Batman has been the subject of many popular shows and movies, one of them being Bruce Timm and Paul Dini’s Batman: The Animated series. This adaptation has solidified its place as one of the most iconic portrayals of the Dark Knight and his array of supervillains on television, garnering multiple Emmy Awards.

And the series has also delved into darker themes, one of which occurred in the tenth episode of Season 1, Nothing to Fear. The episode features Scarecrow who forces Bruce Wayne to confront the haunting vision of his deceased parents.

The Scarecrow, aka Dr. Jonathan Crane, is my favorite Batman villain. I've always been drawn to his eponymous motif, his horror-twinged stories, and how he contests Batman for the title "The Master of Fear." Hence, though "Batman: The Animated Series" holds a special place in my heart, I've always been disappointed that Scarecrow wasn't an A-list player.
Crane is the antagonist in only three episodes and in each one is mostly an obstacle for Batman to develop against. In his villainous debut, "Nothing to Fear," Batman is dosed with Scarecrow's Fear Toxin and haunted by an apparition of his father, leading to the Dark Knight's most famous line. In "Dreams in Darkness," the Fear Toxin drives Batman temporarily insane and he's locked in Arkham Asylum. He must escape both his physical and mental prison before Scarecrow can poison Gotham City.

Several years ago, Raven Banner Entertainment picked up the Canadian rights to Nothing Left to Fear (watch it Here), a horror film that was produced by musician Slash. A couple years ago, Raven Banner and Slash teamed up again on Rue Morgue Magazine founder Rodrigo Gudiño’s film The Breach (read our review Here), which Slash executive produced and provided the score for. And now Rue Morgue has announced that Raven Banner, Slash, and Gudiño are looking to continue their working relationship, joining forces with Hangar 18 Media to form the production company BerserkerGang, which will be dedicated to edge-of-your-seat horror!
Slash and Gudiño are joined in this endeavor by Michael Paszt, James Fler, and Andrew T. Hunt (a trio described as “horror genre specialists”) of distributor Raven Banner and Pasha Patriki of Hangar 18 Media, which is Raven Banner’s in-house production wing.

(Welcome to My Most Ridiculous Note, a series of interviews in which animators talk about the weirdest and funniest notes they received from studio executives.)
"Batman: The Animated Series" is considered by many to be the defining portrayal of the Caped Crusader, a show with incredible visuals, great characters, and stories that didn't talk down to kids while capturing the essence of the comics. The iconic line, "I am vengeance, I am the night, I am Batman!" has stuck with the character for over 30 years, becoming Batman's unofficial official catchphrase.
That famous line comes from the episode "Nothing to Fear," written by Henry Gilroy. An animator who has worked in the industry for decades, starting out on Steven Spielberg's "Tiny Toon Adventures," Gilroy has worked on some of the biggest franchises of the past couple of decades, developed a "G.I. In the wake of suffering a severe brain injury one week ago as a result of a devastating car crash, it’s being reported today that Anne Heche has tragically passed away.
The actress was just 53 years old, leaving behind two children.
“Anne had a huge heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit,” Heche’s reps said in a statement. “More than her extraordinary talent, she saw spreading kindness and joy as her life’s work — especially moving the needle for acceptance of who you love. She will be remembered for her courageous honesty and dearly missed for her light.”
Heche had been in a coma since the crash in L.A.’s Mar Vista neighborhood on Friday, August 5. She had been under investigation for reportedly driving under the influence.

Raven Banner Entertainment announced it has completed production on Rue Morgue Magazine founder Rodrigo Gudiño’s “The Breach,” marking a reunion with former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash, who serves as the film’s executive producer and co-producer of the score.
Based on a book by horror novelist Nick Cutter (born Craig Davidson), with a screenplay co-penned by Cutter and Ian Weird, “The Breach” centers on John Hawkins, who is set to retire from his post as police chief of the small town of Lone Crow that is tucked away in the deep woods of northern Ontario. He hasn't quite gone the writer/director route of fellow rocker Rob Zombie, but guitar hero Slash launched his own horror movie production company, SlashFiction, back in 2010. The first fruit of that labour was last year's Nothing Left To Fear, directed by Anthony Leonardi III. Now here's a teaser for the next one, The Hell Within."When I read the script for The Hell Within I knew it was the right project for my taste," says the top-hatted rock'n'roll producer. "I love monsters and practical effects, so it spoke to my horror sensibilities. And it's a story I know horror fans will dig as well."That story involves a New York woman, Marie, heading into the Brazilian jungle to save a missing child following some mysterious phonecalls, but finding that's only the beginning of an ordeal. Marie and her husband David get stranded in Seringal, a village overrun with drug runners and lost souls,...

From the psychopathic, Christopher Lambert-bothering Kurgan in Highlander to tyrannical prison warden Byran Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption through to new recruit-maiming drill sergeant Zim in Starship Troopers, it's safe to say that I am one of the many movie fans who have more than just a handful of favourite Clancy Brown roles.

Interview Luke Savage 18 Feb 2014 - 06:30
Luke chats to the amazing Clancy Brown about working for Slash, Buckaroo Banzai, defining the 80s, and the franchise potential of Warcraft.
He chopped Sean Connery's head off in Highlander. Saved the human race in Starship Troopers. And was really mean to pretty much everyone in The Shawshank Redemption. His name is Clancy Brown – Clarence J. Brown III if you want to get specific - and he is awesome.
Menacing tough guy, loveable nice guy, he's voiced a merman, Sasquatch, Lex Luthor, plus a character called Mr. Krabs. He even squared up to The Statham in last year's Homefront and lived to tell the tale.
In short, he's the best kind of supporting actor. Any film he's in gets better whenever he's on screen. That's certainly the case with Nothing Left to Fear, the film he's on the other end of a phone to promote.

Stars: Clancy Brown, Anne Heche, Rebekah Brandes, Ethan Peck, James Tupper, Jennifer Stone | Written byJonathan W.C. Mills | Directed by Anthony Leonardi III
Nothing Left to Fear is the first terrific terror tale from Slasher Films (founded by Guns N’ Roses rock legend/horror nut Slash), directed by Gore Verbinski’s visionary protégé Anthony Leonardi III. The film stars James Tupper and Anne Heche as the new pastor and his wife who arrive in Stull, Kansas, with their three kids hoping for an idyllic country life. At first the town and its people look like being the answer to their prayers, but then the supposedly retiring pastor Clancy Brown puts into motion an ancient ritual that unleashes a demonic fury. For Stull is one of the seven gateways to Hell and its inhabitants must quell the Beast who rises to walk the Earth at all bloody costs.

"My favourite horror movie? That's always a tough one, there's a lot of great horror movies. I think The Omen - the original - is one of my favourites. One great package of horror, so we'll go with that one.
"It was one of the great '70s real feature horror films, that they really haven't made in a long time. Where you had not necessarily a big budget horror movie, but just the presence of a real movie in theatres.

If you say his name five times into the mirror, he'll pop up behind you, shoot bees out of his mouth, and tear you apart with his hook hand. At least, that's what Clive Barker led us to believe about the man they call Candyman...
In this hilarious new parody video from the Upright Citizens Brigade, writer Skander Halim and director Ryan Moulton expose the truth behind the legend, revealing that Candyman is actually just a perverted dude who sells candy. Nothing left to fear? Well, not exactly. Because the real Candyman is actually quite a bit creepier than Tony Todd.

Nothing Left to Fear runs into the occasional hiccup and it isnt going to do much for anyone anticipating breakneck terror simply because Slash was involved. This isnt Slashs movie its Anthony Leonardi IIIs movie and Anthony deserves a lot of credit for putting together a piece of film worthy of watching. Easing off of the CGId infectious blackness that swarms the final reel could have strengthened the production and maybe a little gratuitous nudity would have felt fitting (okay I admit thats just wishful thinking that Brandes might sign a contract that involves a little Ta) but all in all there isnt much about the flick that really cries out for alteration. This is low budget filmmaking with a lot of talent behind it.

Welcome to the fifth installment of Trailer Park, our regular look at the latest trailers to hit the interwebs. This “volume” is packed with trailers for a whole host of new movies including: Devil’s Due, Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, Non-Stop, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, That Awkward Moment, Vampire Academy, Nothing Left to Fear and Hercules: The Legend Begins.
Devil’s Due
Devil’S Due is a chilling combination of Rosemary’s Baby and Paranormal Activity. This suspenseful horror film is shot as “found footage”, from a first person perspective of the lead character, Zach, combined with surveillance and hidden cameras. Devil’S Due tells the story of Zach and Samantha, a newlywed couple who experience a mysterious, lost night on their honeymoon and shortly after find themselves dealing with an earlier-than-planned pregnancy. When Samantha starts showing odd behavior, she and Zach initially write it off to nerves, but as the months pass,...

Acclaimed comic book writer Steve Niles – best known as the creator of vampire epic 30 Days of Night and now the acclaimed “Cal McDonald” occult detective series – has often shared free downloads of his comics and short stories with fans. This year is no exception, and Niles is offering a pretty impressive gift this Halloween: his 2004 graphic novel Wake the Dead is available in its entirety as a free download via Niles' official site. Wake the Dead is Niles' own grisly spin on Frankenstein, featuring artwork by Chee (Cthulhu Tales). A film adaptation of the comic has been buzzed about for several years, and it's been one of several options on the table for Slasher Films – the production outfit created by guitar legend Slash (who recently released their debut feature Nothing Left to Fear.) In related but much less pleasant news, we recently learned that Niles' home in Austin, Texas was...

I didn’t know what to expect from Nothing Left To Fear. I knew it was under the new horror “studio” headed up by Slash, of Guns ‘N Roses fame, and that it was a “slow burn” horror movie, which I love, and that’s about it. I guess the only reason this film had any kind of “hype” behind it was because of Slash’s involvement. Who knows why, it’s not like he’s proven himself to be some kind of expert on the genre. I guess we’re just programmed to take note when a celebrity who gathered their fame from another craft tries his/her hand at the horror genre. In any case, I had absolutely no expectations going in. I was just hoping for it to be entertaining, at least. I think The House Of The Devil is one of the best contemporary horror films,...

Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week:
"Much Ado About Nothing"
What's It About? Joss Whedon's ("The Avengers") modern retelling of the Shakespeare classic follows two couples with different takes on romance. Benedick (Alexis Denisof) and Beatrice (Amy Acker) are older and disdainful of their love, while the sweet young Claudio (Fran Kranz) and Hero (Jillian Morgese) are deeply absorbed by their love.
Why We're In: Whedon's "Much Ado About Nothing" is a refreshing and charming take on the classic comedy for its unique blending of the Shakespearian dialogue with a contemporary setting and aesthetic. While it sticks to the original content and doesn't add anything wholly revolutionary, it's nonetheless an entertaining addition to the canon of Shakespeare film adaptations.
