The film was a college project that had extremely tight deadlines. Therefore, the script was written in just a weekend, conceived on Halloween.
Skulldive was heavily influenced by Adam Flatau's Welcome to the Game 2. Despite Di Prospero never actually beating the game, he wanted to make a film around the immense stress and terror he felt when he played.
Many fake deep websites had to be made for the film in photoshop. All of the sites were meant to be disturbing ranging from organ markets to hitmen for hire. Although one procured website was too much for Di Prospero and he cut part of it out of the film. "Lucky's chambers" was a mock of a furry fandom smut group. The descriptions on the website were so vulgar Di Prospero said to Joe Barbarulo, the site designer, "These sites are great... No they aren't.... they are awful...". The website header can still be seen in the final film although the full site isn't viewable.
