Been catching up on this series.

It was great to see Collins entertain the culture of an area I lived in for so long. This, and the following episodes, are a great exploration of people, with the food almost being the garnish rather than the whole point.

Good food, great show and much more.
giovannabcg15 January 2022
I was expecting to watch the host and crew going from place to place and discovering the local foods and traditions. And it´s that! But also is much more. They discover he local communities, traditions, philosofies and talk about Black Lives Matters, Stop Asian Hate, immigration, the families, their love and bonds, and all their traditions and culture. It´s great!

Heartfelt and fun
kathrynamarlin15 January 2022
I loved seeing a little pocket of specific culture that doesn't seem to be often highlighted. For a first episode, I love how strongly it came out tackling all the different issues: immigration, blm, stop Asian hate, etc. It was easy to see the thesis statement of the show: togetherness through food and learning about our neighbors.

Super fun and educational!

A nice feel-good show that you can sit back and watch and learn something new! It covers serious topics, but the experience is enriching rather than doom and gloom.

Much more than a food show. The host is charming and the content just perfect. Can't wait to watch the remaining episodes, as well as season 2. Congrats to everyone involved!

Glad the wait is over!

I was so excited to see this show and it's ever better than I hoped. My mom hates Supernatural but loves PBS food shows, so it's so wonderful to have a show we can enjoy together. Misha is delightful as a host-he's so funny but also he knows when to get serious. He's a great interviewer and he really gets some great stories out of his contacts. I love this show and can't wait to watch more episodes!

I love this episode for the tacos and the stories. The stories about the border and the good that is going on to counteract the situation people are fleeing from .

Looking forward to something like this for so long. Examine new communities, new food and new people.

Watching how other people live and inspire others.

It's important today maybe even more than ever.

Perfect 1st Episode
sarahandreo15 January 2022
This really set the tone for what we should expect and I am HERE for it. Food, culture, social and political issues, all discussed and a civilized and empathetic manner. Mixture of laughter, a few tears and lots of food. I hope this show gets many seasons!

Being from Houston I appreciate the content
sandraeriggs15 January 2022
I love BBQ but Houston has wonderful international food. I got introduced to Vietnamese years ago and it's so great to see a food show talk about Vietnamese food instead of stereotypes of Texas.

Misha starts a little tongue-tied but gets more and more natural 😇 as he goes, so stick with the show.

Delicious
nikki_and_paul15 January 2022
I was waiting for this and it doesn't disappoint. I am learning so much about the US through the stories told by the various communities and the food they share. And Misha is so engaging both with the audience and the people he speaks to.

We're More Alike Than We Think

I really enjoyed watching this episode. I knew nothing about the Asian culture in Texas. Everyone in the episode seems so friendly and they just want people to see we really are all the same. The host of the show is warm and open to new experiences and it shows. I'm glad I started watching.

Great highlight of a community
cvglut16 January 2022
I've heard a lot of stories about Texas, but never about the Vietnamese community before. This was heartfelt and looked so delicious and I loved hearing people's stories. If I get to Houston, I am definitely going to visit these restaurants!

Heartwarming
aprilegunn15 January 2022
This show is so heartwarming! It's not just another food show, but a show about food as a universal human experience and point of connection that can teach us how we're all more alike than different. This first episode hooked me and had me crying happy tears by the end!

Even my bf loves it
briannamorgan-4157915 January 2022
I'm unfortunately not working but convinced my bf to make the pbs donations so that we can watch it every week!!

He had watched supernatural with me and he was curious to see what Misha was like outside the show, so happy to say he love him just as much as I do.

Wonderful!
delphically15 January 2022
I lived in Houston for a long time, so I might be biased when it comes to this particular episode, but it was fantastic to see parts of the city I never saw and hear stories I wasn't familiar with. As in every episode, the food here looks delicious, but this isn't a cooking show; the specific ingredients and preparations pale in significance next to the history, communities, and individuals involved. This is a show about human stories, and how food can help translate them. It's warm and surprisingly vulnerable, which is a tone I haven't seen much in recent media, and I wish there was more like it out there. This show is delightful, and Misha Collins is a lovely and appropriate host for it!

Much more than a standard food show
janinelovett16 January 2022
This was the first episode that aired in Dallas. I expected a lot of restaurant visits and sampling different dishes (which was there and done well), but the content was much more. Learning how Houston's Vietnamese community came to be was really interesting. The people interviewed were very forthcoming - I think because they were comfortable with the host - and told their stories with honesty and pride. I was especially impressed by the man supporting BLM. The mix of food info and learning about the people is a great concept. I'm looking forward to more episodes.

Great Starter
lombardo042616 January 2022
Love how this episode sets it all up. It is from a city in my home state so that was exciting to see. I love how the people seem to really have genuine love for what they do. It feels real intimate and Misha is an incredible host!

Worth the wait
carrie_rocks16 January 2022
So glad that PBS decided to revisit this premise. Food brings people and cultures together. This makes me want to take my own road trip and discover new foods, people and places.

im actually surprised.
casiferzeke16 January 2022
To be honest, everything i know about the us is from what's being portrayed by movies and shows but turns out america is more than that. I didn't know that the country was actually this diverse and i made the "woah" face countless time while watching the first ep. There's like a mini vietnam in that country and everyone is living peacefully! I am so happy to see that. I might be a bit dumb to understand some heavy stuff that's being discussed between misha and guests but i love that they're so comfortable and open about it. Misha is the best person to be hosting this because he himself has a lot of knowledge about the topics. Road food is more than just food. It teaches you differences are also uniqueness.

Heartfelt, and while the premise of food draws you in, the background of the people and cultures keeps you. Good food, better conversation, and a wonderful show. Can't wait for more.
