The eviction of the Gallardo family and others so that McCutcheon Stadium could be built foretells the actual events leading to the construction of Dodger Stadium 30 years after this series is set. The site of Dodger Stadium, Chavez Ravine, was initially home to Mexican-Americans most of whom were cleared under the guise of "eminent domain" to build public housing. Despite most inhabitants being cleared out, the public housing was never built and the land handed over to the Dodgers. The final residents were forcibly removed by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department on May 9, 1959, so that construction of Dodger Stadium could proceed.
The stadium being built in the opening scene, which displaced the Gallardo family, is modeled after the LA Memorial Coliseum.
