As his recent work with Pearl Jam and the Rolling Stones suggests, mega-producer Andrew Watt really, really loves classic rock — and he’s clearly a little tired of being holed up in the studio. So Watt teamed up with Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith to form Smith and Watt Steakhouse, a ridiculously overqualified cover band that played for nearly three hours at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl on Sept. 18, with guest appearances by Jimmy Fallon, Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson, the Roots’ Black Thought, guitarist Robert Randolph, and singer-songwriter Charlotte Lawrence,...

Madonna‘s live performances take a lot of inspiration from the theatrical rock of the 1970s, so it makes sense that her “provocative performances” started with one song by The Who. In middle school, she performed one of The Who’s most famous songs in school and was shunned by her peers. Eventually, that sort of controversy would work out in her favor. However, this doesn’t mean Madonna ever looked at herself as cool or a trendsetter.
Madonna said her brothers introduced her to songs by The Who and The Rolling Stones
During a 2009 interview with Rolling Stone, the Queen of Pop revealed that she has a rockin’ side. “Everyone thinks I was born in a disco,” she said. “My older brothers were in the basement listening to The Who and The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan, [Led] Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love,’ The Who’s ‘Baba O’Riley.'...

The "John Wick" series is known for subverting action movie tropes. It's part of what has made the Keanu Reeves-led films such a success, with the latest entry, "John Wick: Chapter 4," headshoting a new franchise box office record on its opening weekend. The saga of Baba Yaga has now officially passed the $1 billion mark at the box office, proving that "John Wick" is a bonafide blockbuster franchise.
But while a huge part of the films' success has been upending genre clichés and basically inventing a whole new action subgenre — think "Nobody," "Atomic Blonde," and "Sisu" — sometimes the films just lean into the standard tricks of action movie-making. Case in point: the famous "Baba Yaga" sequence in 2014's "John Wick." The inaugural entry in the franchise features so many classic John Wick moments, but the scene where Michael Nyqvist's Russian crime lord Viggo Tarasov brings his son, Losef...

OpinionDays after the celebration of Rajinikanth’s ‘Jailer’, the superstar was seen prostrating before Yogi Adityanath, the hugely controversial Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.Only days after Rajinikanth was once again put on a pedestal and sung praises of, the Tamil superstar broke many hearts, falling, without warning, straight at the feet of Yogi Adityanath, the controversial Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh known for his 'bulldozer politics'. After Jailer, fans of Rajinikanth, and non-fans too, were so taken by his superstardom that many somehow buried the burning memories of his remarks during the 2018 Sterlite violence in Thoothukudi. He had claimed then that “anti-social elements” were behind the protests, during which 13 people were killed in a police firing. Those were days when Rajini seemed to toe the line of the right wing rulers of the country. People watched keenly as he almost plunged into politics, but later withdrew. Many attributed his...

"John Wick: Chapter 4" has cemented the series' standing as a blockbuster franchise, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie since the pandemic began. Keanu Reeves' massively popular hitman has shot, punched, and even sliced open the heads of innumerable opponents on his way to establishing himself as a box office force to be reckoned with. And considering where the series started, that's a seriously impressive feat.
Back in 2014, when the first "John Wick" debuted, no one was expecting the film to do much. With a distinctly B-movie plot and a leading man whose star was fading in the run-up to the movie's release, "John Wick" looked destined to be a forgotten direct-to-video actioner; even when it was acquired by a studio, no one could predict it would become the catalyst for one of the best modern action franchises to date. But writer Derek Kolstad had a trick up his sleeve.

In the battle of Wick vs Dragons, Dragons win! As Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves pulled in a healthy $5.6 million from Thursday previews on its way to what is looking like a $40 million weekend, blowing past even the most modest of predictions. Preview numbers generally are just for the Thursday before a films release day, but for Dungeons & Dragons Paramount has had several screenings in the weeks leading up to the film and as such has culled all the money earned from those screenings into its “preview” numbers. Of course it says something when the studio has such faith in their film that they have screenings weeks in advance, showing they had no fear of bad word of mouth for the big screen adaptation.
When I posted our Thursday predictions, I noticed in the comments sections that a lot of people felt the question posed: Can Dungeons & Dragons take out John Wick?...

The UK was the biggest play this session with $6.7M, 56% ahead of JW3. Germany, one of the Wick movies’ most faithful, made an estimated $5.5M, good for 64% above JW3.
