If you've seen or casually changed the channels by one of Syfy's disaster movies of the week, you've probably seen Jason Bourque's work - if not his name. The director has etched himself a solid career making TV disaster movies (Seattle Superstorm, Doomsday Prophecy, Stonados) but Black Fly is a completely different beast; a movie that doesn't rely on either ridiculous plots or equally ridiculous special effects to entertain but rather on performances to make it stand out.

Our earliest memories of films we love usually come from a trip to the cinema. The strange, silent communion to which we are drawn again and again to live other lives, walk in other worlds and be changed forever. Well, that’s the plan at least…
A cinema trip is a ritual. Precious to some, holy to others. And whether you have your favourite seat picked out in advance, your preferred confection (except Revels – no-one really likes those do they?), go alone or with friends, flip out your phone with the Cinime app or sit in silent anticipation of the BBFC advisory, there is nothing quite like enjoying a film as it was meant to be seen.
Here are our choice moments from five films to feature scenes of our favourite pastime. Down at the front, phones off. The show is about to begin.

My mom is a huge fan of the SyFy Original kind of cinema that Doomsday Prophecy belongs to. She likes to describe these kinds of movies as “carnage candy”, which both disturbs me while also making me chuckle. That said, for those looking to sit back and enjoy some good ‘ole fashioned “carnage candy” as my dear ‘ole ma’ puts it, you’re in luck.
This movie is from the producers/geniuses behind Stonehenge Apocalypse and … wait for it … Mongolian Death Worm. The fact that a movie called Mongolian Death Worm exists blows my mind, and I’ll be seeking it out as soon as possible. After a series of bizarre geological and astrological events occur around the world and at the edge of our solar system, government officials, scientists and a proofreader at a publishing company seek out a modern day Nostradamus. Sorry for that horrific run-on sentence, but...

Some say a comet will fall from the sky. Followed by meteor showers and tidal waves. Followed by fault lines that cannot sit still. Followed by millions of dumbfounded dipshits. Some say the end is near. Some say we'll see Armageddon soon.

Jewel Staite (Firefly, Stargate: Atlantis) and A. J. Buckley (CSI: NY, Supernatural) spoke with the media earlier this week in support of their upcoming Syfy Original Movie Doomsday Prophecy. They were both an absolute treat to talk to, and clearly had a great time making the movie.
According to Syfy, “a book editor (Buckley) and an archeologist (Staite) hunt down a mysterious author of prophetic novels. When the writer is found dead, the editor obtains a device enabling him to see the future – an impending geological nightmare that will tear apart the planet.” Cool. Here’s a clip:
In answer to a question from PopCultureMadness.com, Jewel warned us that this wasn’t exactly a “message” movie.
Jewel Staite: This is a fun, crazy movie. It’s one of those sci-fi movies that you sit back on a Saturday night with your bowl of popcorn and you zone out and you have fun.
