It is stated that after an earthquake Italy sinks into the Mediterranean Sea. Italy sits on the African tectonic plate. The African plate is heading north, and is diving underneath the European plate. Thus every time the plate moves north, Italy and the Alps on the European plate actually rise in height, as Italy is being rammed into the Alps. So in real life if there were a giant earthquake near Italy, the land would go up not down.
When analyzing the rod, which the audience can hear emits an audible low frequency hum, a somewhat qualified guess, without having a sound level meter at hand, below 300 HZ. Yet the scientist testing it claims it emits a frequency of 12.4 KHZ or 12400 HZ which is in the high frequency audible range. (@1h14m)
In the beginning, they show that giant cracks have opened up beneath the Black Sea, and all the water has drained into them. The government man says that they were able to dam the Bosporos Strait to stop the Mediterranean Sea from draining into the cracks. The smallest width of the Bosporus is a little over 3/8 of a mile (704 m). It would take months of continuous work to dam this Strait. But it is implied that this was done in a couple of days.
