- On show night, Liz Lemon grows increasingly infuriated when no one seems to remember that it's her 40th birthday. Just before the taping, Tracy Jordan becomes convinced that nothing is funnier than a performer laughing and breaking character, which he elects to do all night, much to Jenna Maroney's chagrin. Meanwhile, Jack Donaghy struggles with the consequences of his promise to give up drinking while Avery is pregnant.—NBC Publicity
- The live episode opens with Liz and Jack making reference to the fact there is a live audience. Jack is giving up drinking while Avery is pregnant. There is a live 'flashback' to a time Liz gave up sugar and we see that Julia Louis-Dreyfus is playing flashback Liz.
Outside the office Liz asks Jonathan if Jack knows it's her birthday. Because of a joke she made at his expense the other day he's intentionally left her name off his list of staff birthdays.
Jenna sings the theme song live.
Liz finds herself in the elevator with cleaning lady Jadwiga (Rachel Dratch) who is finally back at work after "bullet in brain move." She tries to tell Jadwiga there might be a big mess coming up when there is a big party for her birthday.
Kenneth gives Jenna her messages, including a "picture of a hot dog" from Brett Favre. Liz shows up and Kenneth is giggling uncontrollably.
Tracy tells Liz he's just seen the non-porn version of the Carol Burnett show and he's interested in cracking up through sketches instead of just saying the lines. Even though audiences love it when actors 'break,' she doesn't want that done on TGS. Tracy promises not to break, but when Liz leaves he tells the guys he's going to laugh during the show.
Kenneth is still giggling around Liz, though not in relation to any birthday party idea.
Jack is starting to really need a drink. Knitting and magic aren't helping.
During a skit with Tracy and Jenna, Tracy starts breaking while portraying President Obama.
They cut to a commercial staring Dr. Spaceman. His solution to erectile dysfunction is a new R & B album he's recorded.
Frank and Danny get Liz to sign a birthday card for Jadwiga.
Liz yells at Tracy for his breaking, saying he's ruining the show. He again promises not to laugh. Carol calls from the cockpit during a particularly rough flight. He doesn't mention her birthday, instead asking her to clear out the porn from his apartment if he dies.
Jenna threatens to "slip a nip" if Tracy continues to break.
Jack is sniffing paint to compensate for no booze. She yells about it being her birthday and he apologizes for forgetting. He gives her cash out of his wallet. Liz tells him she's disappointed nobody on the show remembered her birthday. On the monitor we see that Tracy is breaking again. Jenna walks back and tell Jack she had a bottle of wine with dinner. Jack asks to smell her mouth.
Tracy continues to break during his skit as Oprah. When Jenna walks out to "slip a nip" Pete cuts to a commercial. It is Dr. Drew Baird advertising a program where hands from executed criminals are given to amputees.
Jack tells the cast they've forgotten Liz's birthday. He says they have to come up with something that makes it seems like they planned it all along. Kenneth says he has an idea.
Carol calls Liz again. He's landed safely and she tells him it's her birthday. She walks onto the set and sees the entire cast waiting with a Happy Birthday sign and cake. She realizes they've stolen Jadwiga's birthday celebration and given it to Liz. Liz couldn't be happier.
After the show Liz tells Jack her birthday wish is for him to have a drink with her.
