I was mesmerized by this special. Patti Lupone's style and personality had me captivated. Each of the four young actors - two young women and two young men of varying degrees and genres of talent - provides a unique perspective and opportunity for her guidance. Each performs at least one song. Patti coaches and critiques, and the audience is treated to a revised performance that employs Patti's feedback. She offers general acting philosophy and advice, in addition to the specifics tailored to the individual performances. The actors-in-training are diverse in their talents and are each interviewed about the experience of being coached. There are interludes of the group of five enjoying a meal together during which Patti adds personal anecdotes and the actors interact with her more casually (if there IS a way to casually interact with a megastar you've known for 1/2 a day). I am not an actor by trade, but found this a fascinating watch and I wish there were more specials in this format to enjoy.
