If there’s a more infectiously affable and charismatic actor than Kurt Russell then I don’t know of him or her. Sure there are performers with more dramatic range, others that are more consistently hilarious, and still others who look better in women’s clothing, but for my money none of them set me as instantly at ease as Russell. It’s what makes his near six-year absence from movie screens (2011′s little-seen Touchback aside) that much more frustrating. And it’s what makes the new heist comedy, The Art of the Steal, that much more enjoyable. Crunch Calhoun (Russell) is one of the best wheelmen in the business, but when his latest score goes bad he winds up serving hard time in a Polish jail. It’s not that he got caught, it’s that his brother Nicky (Matt Dillon) sold him out to save his own butt. A...

This is the trailer for an Ocean's 11 style heist film called The Art of the Steal. The movie has a great cast that includes Kurt Russell, Matt Dillon, Jay Baruchel, Chris Diamontopolous, Kenneth Welsh, Jason Jones, Katheryn Winnick, and Terence Stamp.
Russell has made only one film in the last five years, a film called Touchback. It's great to see him back in action, though. He is also has a role in the upcoming Fast and Furious 7 movie. In this film he plays a renowned art thief and former daredevil named Crunch Calhoun, who teams up with "a motley crew of international grifters to pull off the most elaborate double-crossing caper of a lifetime."
It looks like a fun movie, and it comes out on VOD on February 7th, 2014 and in theaters starting March 14th, 2014.

Another high-profile name is eyeing a role in director James Wan's Fast & Furious 7 as Variety reports that Kurt Russell is in talks to play an undisclosed role. He would join Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jason Statham, Ronda Rousey, Tony Jaa and Tyrese Gibson with many more franchise favorites expected to be confirmed in the days to come. Russell's career has been relativity quiet since his role in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof in 2007. He was planning on re-teaming with Tarantino for last year's Django Unchained , but left that project mid-production. In 2011, Russell starred in the football drama Touchback . Although his role in Fast & Furious 7 is unknown, the trade notes that it was initially offered to Denzel Washington. Continuing from the cliffhanger tease...

A few years ago, it seemed like Kurt Russell was poised for a career resurgence thanks to a starring role in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof (Aka the second half of Grindhouse). Unfortunately, Grindhouse ended up bombing and Russell went back to doing nothing for the next five years. Recently he turned up on screen again in Touchback, the poorly-reviewed Christian football movie, but here's some good news: he's just signed on to star in Bone Tomahawk, a horror-western that sounds much more in line with the Kurt Russell we used to know. I mean, the movie's called Bone Tomahawk... can you get more bad-ass than that? The movie also co-stars Richard Jenkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Jennifer Carpenter, and the plot synopsis is as follows: "The brutally violent, character-driven Bone Tomahawk follows a sheriff (Russell), a gunslinger, a befuddled oldster (Jenkins) and a cowboy (Sarsgaard) as they attempt to rescue a...

With a new trailer for the Black Dynamite animated series hitting the web just last week and two sequels still supposedly in the works, you might be wondering if writer/director Scott Sanders is ever going to get a chance to do anything that's not Black Dynamite related. As it turns out, he is actually in the process of setting up another project and it sounds like it will also be equal parts action and comedy. The movie is called Aztec Warrior and it involves the wacky and over-the-top world of Mexican wrestling. Here's the best part: Luis Guzman has just signed on for the lead role. According to Deadline, Luis Guzman will star as a luchadore named "the Warrior" in the upcoming film. He will face off against his rival El Diablo, played by Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez (Jack and Jill, Beverly Hills Chihuahua). Terry Crews also reportedly has a role in the film,...

If we could go back and change one aspect of our past that would change everything about our future, how many of us would take that chance? Questions like that are obviously silly and they serve merely as discussion points rather than actual situations, but the question is an interesting one nonetheless. The football film Touchback even asks a great question with its tagline, "Would you give up everything you love for a shot at everything you've wanted?" When worded that way, a simple premise becomes infinitely more interesting.
Scott (Brian Presley) is the quarterback of the high-school football team in a small Ohio town, and in 1991 he leads the improbably successful team all the way to the state championship. On the final drive with his team down, he must take the ball and run down the field to score because he missed a wide open receiver. As he dives above the goal line,...

There's a flood of new movies hitting theatres this weekend, but with The Hunger Games showing no sign of weakness, it's questionable whether any of them will be able to dethrone it. Perhaps the biggest challenger is The Farrelly Brothers' The Three Stooges, which could have some serious mainstream appeal but only if it manages to connect with younger audiences. A couple of genre flicks are also in the running including Drew Goddard's The Cabin in the Woods and the sci-fi action flick Lockout starring Guy Pearce. The former has been getting fantastic reviews, the latter not so much. Also this weekend The Raid: Redemption is finally playing nationwide and The Weinsteins caved and released a PG-13 cut of Bully in over 100 theatres. Other movies in select theatres include Touchback starring Kurt Russell, Badass starring Danny Trejo, and the grunge documentary Hit So Hard featuring former Hole drummer Patty Schemel.

Kevin Covias is all grown up. The cherubic singer who finished 11th on the fifth season of "American Idol" when he was just 16 has officially crossed over—to the big screen, that is.
According to Variety, Covias is set to join comedy gurus Jason Bateman, Melissa McCarthy and Amanda Peet in Seth Gordon's upcoming "Identity Thief."
Penned by Craig Mazin ("The Hangover Part II") and Steve Conrad ("The Pursuit of Happyness"), the story follows a man whose life falls apart after his identity is stolen (Bateman).
When he corners the perpetrator (McCarthy), however, he gets a wake-up call he wasn't expecting. Covais—who is now 22 but has retained his boyish looks—will play an Eagle Scout whose identity has also been stolen, prompting him to seek revenge. If you took Friday Night Lights and mashed it up with Mr. Destiny, you’d probably end up with something that looks a lot like Touchback.
It’s been awhile since we’ve had one of those films that shoots someone into the past so he (or she) can fix mistakes and improve their present lot in life, so the timing is actually pretty good for a movie that follows that plot line. Everything old is new again, right?
In Touchback, a financially-strapped family man living in a small town suddenly finds himself back in the past. More precisely, he finds himself at a point in time where he can change things and avoid the leg-cracking injury that flushed his football dreams down the toilet. Here’s the rub – while his adult life might not be filled with fancy cars and over-flowing bank accounts, he has a wife and children that love him.

Watching the trailer for Touchback reminded me of Miracle and 17 Again, but got strange and unfamiliar towards the middle. Kurt Russell isn’t even the star, but hell if he doesn’t play a coach or mentor with the best of them.
When a washed-up high school quarterback is sent back in time he gets the opportunity to replay his final game. Will he avoid the injury that ended his promising career or will he choose the route that lead to his small town life?
I was thinking it was going to be a VOD release (it has the ball-achingly bad voiceover), but this is actually going to theaters on April 13th.

I don't know about you, but I've always enjoyed watching Kurt Russell's films. I'm surprised we don't see him in the movies more these days. He stars as a high school football coach in the new sports centered inspirational film called Touchback. Which follows the story of a washed-up high school quarterback with a bum leg who is sent back in time, where he gets the opportunity to replay his final high school game. It's here he has the opportunity to change the way his life turned out. "Will he avoid the injury that ended his promising career or will he choose the route that lead to his small town life?" It's kind of a silly story, but there's room in the world for inspirational films that might make us feel good, even if they are illogical. Watch the trailer and tell us what you think.

Whether or not you're a sports fan, there's something about sport-centered movies that is undeniably compelling. The stakes run high while the characters run in slow motion, and the climax is often one that makes crowds stand up and cheer. A good sports movie pays off like your favorite team on their best day, and this is why I'm looking forward to the upcoming football-focused drama Touchback. Writer-director Don Handfield is making his feature debut with this wish-fulfillment tale that centers on Scott Murphy, a promising high school athlete who seems destined to go pro and leave his humble hometown behind him. However, his prospects of a career in football are shattered when he's injured in an ill-fated game. 15 years later, he's a married man with a couple of kids, a gimp leg, and one major regret. Then one day, while wishing he could have done things differently, he's magically...

"Attitude wins football games!" Anchor Bay Films has debuted the first official trailer via Yahoo for another football drama titled Touchback, this one stars Kurt Russell as a high school football coach and Brian Presley as a kid who gets injured. The cast has Melanie Lynskey, Christine Lahti, Sarah Wright and Drew Powell. This inspirational sports film looks, unfortunately, like some made-for-tv shlock, even Kurt Russell can't save it. There are so many awful lines even he fumbles over, like that "the future is just a bunch of..." one. Give it a shot but don't expect much to like in this, I think it'd be better to go see Undefeated instead. Watch the first official trailer for Don Handfield's Touchback, in high def from Yahoo: A man looks back 15 years to the injury that ended his career as a promising high-school football player. Touchback was written and directed by American actor,...

Just when you thought you had seen every football movie, someone decided to add time travel into the mix! No, it won't be via a Delorean, or a blue telephone booth. But it could be a magic football! Touchback follows Brian Presley as Scott Murphy, an injured player who is given a chance to go back and relive his greatest game. A game that caused him a near-crippling injury, and left him with a bad leg. Presley travels back to 1991, and gets to relive the moments surrounding that game with...

Kurt Russell will be headed back to the big screen thanks to Anchor Bay. THR reports that they have picked up North American rights to the football film Touchback. Don Handfield directed the film that is described as "The Blind Side mixed with It’s a Wonderful Life."
The story follows "a farmer (Brian Presley) who wonders how his life would have turned out had he not scored the winning touchdown of a high school championship game, which resulted in him damaging his knee and losing a chance at a pro career. He finds himself back in time and seeks advice from his coach, played by Russell." The film was written and directed by Handfield, and produced by Presley along with Kevin Matusow and Carissa Buffel.
I am a huge fan of Kurt Russell, and think that the story sounds pretty cool. Russell will play the role of the coach perfectly.

Anchor Bay has acquired North American distribution rights to Touchback, the Don Handfield-directed gridiron drama that stars Kurt Russell, Brian Presley, Melanie Lynskey, Christine Lahti, Drew Powell, Kevin Covais and Marc Blucas. The plan is to release the film next year. Presley stars as a struggling farmer and former football hero who laments scoring the winning touchdown in the Ohio State High School Championship game years ago, because he injured his knee and was robbed of a pro career. He goes back in time to the week before the game and struggles over whether to call a different play, and whether he should marry his shigh school sweetheart. Handfield wrote the script, and Freedom Films’ Brian Presley, Kevin Matusow and Carissa Buffel produced. Anchor Bay’s Kevin Kasha brokered the deal with Gersh’s Jay Cohen. Hannibal Classics is handling foreign sales.

Stuntman Mike rides again!
Kurt Russell is set to reunite with his "Death Proof" director, Quentin Tarantino, for the southern-flavored western, "Django Unchained," according to Heat Vision.
Russell will be playing the role of Ace Woody, the head slave driver of the notorious ranch run by the ruthless plantation owner, Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). Ace delights in punishing slaves in the most brutal way possible and literally whipping them into shape to compete in death matches staged for the sick pleasure of other rich white Confederate flag-wavers.
Kevin Costner was set to play Ace but dropped out earlier this month, supposedly over scheduling conflicts with another western, "The Hatfields and the McCoys." Hey, if you can't get one actor who once played Wyatt Earp, you find another!
We were looking forward to seeing Costner in this role, but it will be a blast to watch Russell play his second psycho villain for Tarantino.

Our Wednesday night series Hit Me With Your Best Shot resumes on May 4th with David Lynch's Eraserhead (see the May & June schedule here), but tonight we bring you A Very Special Episode.
We knew from Twitter that the actress Melanie Lynskey (Win Win) enjoyed this particular series. After our group gaze at Heavenly Creatures (1994), which happened to be her film debut, she sent us the following note with permission to publish it. How great! Melanie is currently in movie theaters as the troubled mom in Win Win but she's got two more films on the way. She's completed work on Eye of the Hurricane co-starring with Campbell Scott (another underrated actor) and Touchback, a sports fantasy starring Kurt Russell.
Melanie takes it from here...
