At last October’s Mipcom, Israeli interactive talent show Rising Star, was the hot property, selling local versions around the globe. At the Mip-tv market next month, The Big Picture, a new interactive entrant from Israel, is aiming to be the next big thing. The game show hails from Israeli format company A Cappella, which recently made U.S. and UK deals with eOne for religion-themed drama Reaching For Heaven. Big Picture is created by TV host and mentalist Nimrod Harel, whose first scripted series, The Believer, has been sold to Fox International Channels. A budget of $1M went toward developing and producing an English-language Big Picture pilot hosted by Andrew Günsberg (Australian Idol, Live To Dance), which A Cappella will shop at Mip-tv (see promo below). The trivia-based show asks a contestant to identify photographs projected on a 20-meter-high screen in the studio; the pictures can be of celebrities,...

With just a few hours to go until the first X Factor USA judges auditions, Simon Cowell has finally confirmed that Paula Abdul will be returning to his side.
It had been expected that he would appoint his former American Idol colleague to the panel, after earlier confirming that record label boss L.A Reid and
X Factor UK panellist Cheryl Cole would judge on the Fox reality TV show.
Insiders have now told THR that Paula was in negotiations with Fox until late on Friday night, and the whole deal was almost ruined because the wording of contract she signed with CBS, for her recent series Live To Dance, may have prevented her working on a rival network.
A source at CBS told AP that Paula has now been released from any obligations she had to them, and she begins filming today at the Galen Center on the campus...

When the U.S. edition of The X Factor premieres on Fox this fall, the four seats at the judges table will be filled by boss man Simon Cowell, Antonio “L.A.” Reid (the chairman of Island Def Jam Music Group), Paula Abdul (of Live To Dance American Idol fame), and Cheryl Cole (from the UK X Factor).
Or so Simon Cowell hopes to announce soon, he reveals in an interview with Deadline.com.
“I’ve always wanted Paula. Always been very vocal about that. Always loved working with her even though she can be a pain,” Cowell tells the site.

The cast of "Drop Dead Diva" is back on-set and shooting Season 3. And they've got a few extra divas stopping by.
As Zap2it first reported, "Live To Dance's" Paula Abdul will appear in the Season 3 premiere. Now, Lifetime announces that country singer LeAnn Rimes and talk show host and new "Dancing with the Stars" contestant, Wendy Williams, will appear in the episode, as well.
Last time Abdul was on-set, executive producer Josh Berman told us exclusively that she shot a provocative scene that will potentially open next season's premiere episode. She'll be in bed with Jane (played by Brooke Elliot) and Fred (Ben Feldman). Abdul reprises her role as Jane's "voice of reason" and will be advising her on her relationship with Grayson (Jackson Hurst).
Rimes will play the soon-to-be-ex-wife of Jane's client, a hard-partying celebrity being tried for hit-and-run. And Williams plays a judge and we assume...

Her rep is making this seem like a small matter, but it obviously wasn’t one at the time. A recording of Paula Abdul calling 911 on Valentine’s Day has hit the web, with the former Idol host crying on the 101 freeway that her boyfriend wouldn’t let her out of the car. “I wanna go, and he won’t let me!” she shrieked, yelling to the driver, “Are you gonna drop me off ’cause I have emergency on the phone!” She quickly announces “he’s dropping me off” and ends the call, but cops were concerned enough to call her back and visit her home that night. Abdul refused to file a police report and swore the argument was strictly verbal.

Simon Cowell has defended his old pal Paula Abdul and said she had nothing to do with the axing of dance show Live To Dance.
The former American Idol judge had been fronting the CBS dance competition, the final of which aired last month. However it won’t return for a second season, as the network have already decided to cancel the reality TV show, because of poor ratings and critical reception.
Speaking on last night’s Jay Leno Show, Simon spoke up for Paula – who is widely reported to be a top contender for the panel of his new X Factor series – saying that it was the show format and not her at fault. He said:

Finally, the season finale of Live to Dance, and it all came down to the kids, with D’Angelo & Amanda taking the top prize as America’s Best Dance Act. The highlight of the show was the opening number, a rousing ensemble piece featuring all 6 finalists. Brilliantly choreographed by Paula Abdul to a medley of songs with aptly, the word “dance” in the title. The only thing missing was Paula herself, I was so hoping to see her dance.
After a bunch of time filling contestant video packages, the reveal of the Top 3, in no particular order just yet: White Tree Fine Art, D’Angelo & Amanda, and Kendall Glover. A couple of tearful moments interjected into the show: Travis ruefully acknowledges a past mistake, having given earlier contestant Austin Acevedo a red star. Next, semi-finalist Chi Town Breakers, once a homeless family, was gifted with a Chrysler Town & Country mini-van.

Aww, we miss Paula so much. For all of Steven Tyler’s American Idol inappropriateness, neither he nor J.Lo have ever seemed like they might have flown here from some alternate dimension filled with double rainbows and free Lunesta prescriptions. Not so Paula Abdul, who says she sleeps standing up with her eyes open. “I sleep standing up sometimes,” Paula said in an interview. “I’ve been sleeping against a wall and I never fully close my eyes so it freaks people out. My eyes are always kind of open,” which just fits so perfectly with everything else we know about her.
Explained the Live To Dance judge to Access Hollywood, “I fell asleep at an awards show when I got an award and my manager at the time let me just be asleep so that I could be on the jumbotron. But I only require a few hours of sleep.

On tonight’s Live to Dance we watched 6 acts compete for the last time in their quest to win the title of “best dance act in America” and $500,000 in prize money next week. America’s vote from last week was revealed to be Kendall Glover, the only soloist in the competition. This was my big problem from last week and the show just smoothly glazed over it. Host Andrew Greenberg called Kendall with the news some time after last week’s show. We can only assume he called her the morning after so that she had as much time to rehearse as the other five acts. And amazingly, in our information age, this was kept a pretty good secret all week!
Tonight’s outcome hinges only on America’s votes, so even though we have the experts’ commentary and awarding of gold or red stars, this does not technically count; well,...

On tonight’s Live to Dance, the last 6 of the semi-finalists competed for a spot in the finals which begin next week. I’m seriously scratching my head here, as yet another curve ball was pitched at us. While last week they said only one act would move through, in fact the process tonight was the same as before: One act moved through by the experts, and one act to be voted through by America. Here I thought I had poor math skills, but they couldn’t even follow their own math! This does present complications for next week’s finals, and more on that later.

The arrival of American Idol‘s much anticipated Season 10 drew 26.2 million total viewers, soundly crushing all comers. (Read Michael Slezak’s recap here.) A mighty haul, it nonetheless represents the hit reality series’ biggest slide between seasons (down 13 percent).

Forget the performers for a second, tonight’s live show of Live to Dance had some steep competition itself, going up against the season premiere of American Idol. The semi-finalists on Paula Abdul's new CBS series Live To Dance have been revealed. The show kicked off on Tuesday night as she was joined by Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and Michael Jackson's choreographer Travis Payne in a bid to find America’s best amateur solo dancer or group. Auditions were held across the country earlier this year and the acts progressing to the live semi-finals were unveiled on Wednesday night's episode of the show. The dance acts who earned a place in the semi-finals were: Austin Acevedo, Jittin' Genius, D'Angelo & Amanda, Bev & Hap, Chi-Town Finest Breakers, The Vibe, Jalen, Du-Shaunt Stegall and Dax & Sarah. Dance In Flight, Twitch, Roosevelt Anderson, Jill & Jacob, Tap Sounds Underground, Dance Town Chaos, Shore Thing and Kendall Glover (more)...

Tonight’s Live to Dance episode is officially titled “Making The Top 18” by CBS; however, only 17 spots for the upcoming semi-final rounds were actually determined. The 18th spot, decided by America’s voters, will not be revealed until next week. They sure didn’t make this process easy to figure out either. You couldn’t turn your attention from the show for a second, as it was only through a handful of gradual reveals throughout the hour long show that this selection process could be pieced together.
So let’s break it down: Out of 18 semifinals spots, 16 were chosen from last night’s “short list” by the panel of judges, or “experts” as they are referred to by host Andrew Gunsberg. For the remaining two spots, 4 acts were given call backs to perform in a dance off against each other, and learned of their fate via unexpected, in person visits from Paula,...

It was the night of the premieres on American Television: On CBS, Paula Abdul’s Live to Dance premiered, NBC aired the new season of The Biggest Loser and ABC brought V back after its more than seven months hiatus. But which network finished first on Tuesday?
ABC relocated No Ordinary Family (6.75 million viewers; Adults 18-49: 1.9 rating/5 share) back to its 8pm home but the ratings only held relatively steady opposite its previous first run on December 7, 2010.
Next was the season 2 premiere of V at a disappointing 6.58 million viewers and a 2.1/5 among adults 18-49. In comparison with its series premiere on November 3, 2009, this was a loss of a hefty 54 percent in total viewers and 60 percent in adults 18-49. Compared to its midseason debut on March 30, 2010, V dropped by 6 percent in total viewers and 25 percent in adults 18-49, but versus its season finale on May 18, 2010, the science-fiction series built by...

CBS’s Live To Dance, featuring Idol alum Paula Abdul, got off on the right foot in its Tuesday debut, topping both the 8 and 9 o’clock hours in total viewers (with an average of 10.23 million).
The Biggest Loser: Couples, however, stepped on Paula’s toes by dominating the demos with its own two-hour premiere — despite dropping 25 percent (8.74 million total viewers) from its year-ago opener.
Elsewhere on Tuesday night, as TV continued its return from the winter doldrums:
• At 8 pm, No Ordinary Family placed third in total viewers (6.75 mil) and the demos, enjoying a small uptick from its last new episode.
• The Season 2 arrival of ABC’s V was understandably down sharply from the series premiere. But versus the Season 1 finale, it was up 12 percent in total viewers (6.6 mil) and on par in the demos.
• Opposite a well-performing NCIS repeat (which led the night with 10.28 million viewers), Parenthood saw a 34 percent...

Oh Paula, oh Paula…how your fans missed you. Our wait is over, as Paula returned to our airwaves January 4, on CBS’s Live to Dance, a real dance competition, unlike some others we know. If you’re a fan of competition dance, this show did not disappoint. Those of us who were embroiled in the Dancing With The Stars controversy are pleased to see that Live to Dance clearly defined itself from the opening sequence: it is looking for the best dance act, and by best, they mean the act that breaks barriers and gives us something we’ve never seen before. A tall order, but we know the journey on which we embark.
The premiere night gave us auditions from L.A. and New York, with an hour devoted to each city. The auditions were pre-produced and pre-packaged in front of a studio audience; some were full 30 second auditions,...

Imagine it. It’s your time to shine. You’ve been practicing your routine for weeks and watching Black Swan (just the ballet parts!) on repeat. You’re ready to not only dance for the biggest audience of your life, but to also meet your idol: one Ms. Paula Abdul. You step out from behind the curtain to thunderous applause. Next thing you know, your skull is thudding against the stage like a watermelon slipping from a fat man’s hands. What else could you have expected except hitting the floor in a complete face plant on Paula Abdul’s Live To Dance, premiering Tuesday night? You handle your humiliation well, or at least don’t burst into tears. “I think I slammed my head,” you say because, well, you slammed your head incredibly hard. While you put your hand over the gigantic gruesome welt on your forehead, Paula seems remarkably kind and lucid,...

In an interview with The AP to promote her new series Live To Dance, the former American Idol judge said that she doesn't feel worthy to criticise young artists. She noted: "I became a famous judge on American Idol, but I'd always be [saying], 'Who am I to judge?" Abdul went on to assert that it was important to balance (more)...

Paula Abdul has said that she is "inspired" by the contestants on her new show Live To Dance. The former American Idol judge told CBS's The Early Show that she had enjoyed her experience on the new series - inspired by the British competition Got To Dance - which premieres tonight. "I'm a girl who has a lot of heart, and also coming from the entertainer-artist point of view, you have to have the ability to motivate and inspire people - it works hand-in-hand," she told Erica Hill. "These acts inspire me constantly, and I'm only there to help them live their dreams. If they don't make the cut on this show, at least they are encouraged to (more)...

As a new year is upon us and in looking forward to the oncoming winter season of television I have to say there’s not a lot in the new offerings that I’m looking forward to.
Last year ABC made the decision to cut the show Flash Forward and instead continue on with the equally ratings challenged V. The programming choice was a shock to some, myself included, but I’m sure the network had some sound reasons for making their decision. It was disappointing for me since Flash Forward had actually upped its game in its final episodes with a new focus that made everything really come together. V never really had enough to hold my attention especially when you factor in the three episode premiere followed by a long break from the fall until the spring.

Yay! Turn up the volume and raise the roof! CBS is bringing crazy back to TV! Or is it? Paula Abdul premieres her new show, Live to Dance on Tuesday, January 4th and, oh how I’ve missed the seal clapping, the head dropping to the table and the sporadically gushing tears of Miss Paula.
But, I just watched the CBS-released trailer, which, if this is anything to go by, prepares us for a new Paula, displaying a more forceful, confident demeanor than we’ve ever seen. No longer the meek , second banana to a curmudgeon English bloke. No, the Live to Dance Paula is now the boss, clearly in charge of the panel of judges and her cast of contestants.
The greatest aspect of this show for Paula is that it will allow her to revisit her roots, her love of dance. Many American Idol viewers don’t know...

Aw, we didn’t realize how we much missed her beautiful crazy mug until we saw the trailer for Paula Abdul’s Live To Dance, premiering January 4. The fact her show seems to take place in the Thunderdome from Mad Max is just the cherry on top of the tap-dancing sundae! We know what you’re saying. Another dance show? Aren’t there a million of them already? Yes, and we want more! More! Live seems like it has all the cheesy dance-show cliches that we need to survive the new year. Dancer riding a tricycle? Check. Inspiring 80-something grandma in a leotard and sequined blazer? Check. What appears to be a zombie break-dancing troupe? Check and check! The only way this show would be better is if the name was changed to Dance To Live and it actually did take place in a futuristic distopia where Paula decided whether...

It’s like ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ plus a whole lot of crazy!
CBS just released a sneak peak of Paula Abdul’s new reality competition, and it is vintage Paula! The 48-year-old former American Idol judge will be the featured judge on the new reality competition Live To Dance, where dancers and dance troupes of all ages and backgrounds compete to win a $500,000 prize.
If the preview is any indication, it is a photocopy of like-minded dance shows such as S0 You Think You Can Dance and America’s Best Dance Crew, but with the addition of slurry inspiration courtesy of Paula.
Although new Idol judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will add excitement to Fox, no one spits out one-liners like “I want amazing people to live in their unique ability” and “You are exactly what makes people live to dance” quite like Paula. The competition...

NBC is taking a bold shot at Fox's reality competition throne as it attempts a singing contest of it's own with The Voice of America.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reality TV mastermind Mark Burnett is spearheading an Americanized version of the Dutch hit The Voice of Holland, fast-tracking it to air on NBC this spring well ahead of Fox's X-Factor, scheduled for next fall. This would make the third program on NBC's programming slate to feature the vocal talents of undiscovered wonders, what with newbie hit The Sing Off and the summer's America's Got Talent already in hand.
Despite the tweaks and modification's meant to set itself apart from the others - among other things a "blind" audition where the coaches (judges) cannot see the individual performing, only hear their voice - this attempt just reeks of desperation, as if NBC is a hungry hawk perched to feast on...

Paula Abdul has suggested that she would regret not participating in Live To Dance for the rest of her life. The 'Opposites Attract' singer, who appears alongside choreographer Travis Payne and former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt on the show's judging panel, claimed to share the same passion for dance held by the hopefuls in the upcoming CBS competition. She told The AP: "We've had amazing 5, 6 and 7-year-old dancers all the way up to beautiful dancers in their 60s, 70s and even 80s that still live in that passionate, unique place where dance inspires them. If you get to do that life, your life is so much richer. "I felt strongly that when I left American Idol, I really needed to take time to rediscover where my passion lies. Paula Abdul has reportedly said that personality is important on her new reality show Live To Dance. The former American Idol judge is currently filming the audition stage of the upcoming CBS competition, which aims to find the best amateur dancer or dance group in America.
