This season of “Maron” veered far away from the comedian Marc Maron’s real life, sending the star of the show away from his life and friends and into serious rehab. Yet just one week before IFC is set to air the finale of the fourth season, the creator and star announced on his podcast “Wtf With Marc Maron” that the critically acclaimed series would not be returning for a fifth.

“This is it,” said Maron. “It’s done. There’s ways to do more, but this is the vision. This season was the season. And I couldn’t be more thrilled about how it came out, how all four seasons came out. You’ll see how we wrap the story up in the best way possible, and I just feel like it’s done.

IFC has renewed "Maron" for an expanded second season, the network announced Tuesday. The half-hour comedy follows quirky, sardonic comedian Marc Maron's adventures as he produces the popular "Wtf With Marc Maron Podcast."
Jennifer Caserta, IFC president and general manager, said in a statement that "Maron" was an excellent fit with the network. “In many ways, Marc is a perfect representation of IFC and our approach to comedy," she continued. "He also seems to be in need of a less dysfunctional family, so we’re happy he’s returning to ours for an expanded second season.”
A 13-episode Season 2 will premiere sometime in 2014. Season 1, which finished its run in June, was only 10 episodes.
"Maron" has been frequently compared to FX's "Louie," and the two comedians are longtime friends, though their relationship has been rocky over the years. Like Louis C.K., Maron is the creator, writer, executive producer and star of his own show.

“I'm not for everybody.” Anyone who has listened to Marc Maron's podcast or seen his stand-up over the years will certainly recognise this to be true. Indeed, it's something that he seems to have been coming to terms with for some time now, but when he did, his manner and outlook became more optimistic and enabled him to draw pleasure from the positive aspects of his life, of which there are many. Sure as is the case with any neurotic narcissist, there are moments of doubt, but the Marc Maron of today is drastically different from the one we were introduced to when the podcast first started.

Maron Friday, May 3 IFC, 10pm Et Marc Maron is in a good place. Such a simple sentence, but it’s taken so much to make it a reality. A few years ago, the acerbic comedian was reeling financially and emotionally from his second divorce and a floundering career. That’s when almost on a lark he started inviting fellow comedians — many of whom he’d been friends with, and in some cases he had become jealous of for their success — over to his garage for interviews that he recorded for a modest podcast. Wtf With Marc Maron eventually became an [...]

IFC's released its first trailer for "Maron," the network's new series starring and based on the life of comedian and podcaster Marc Maron. The 10-episode season will premiere on Friday, May 3 at 10pm, and features Maron as himself, pretty much, a 48-year-old stand-up who resides with his cats (but not his girlfriend -- the fictionalized Maron lives alone), records his podcast in his garage and is prone to acerbic oversharing. Maron has worked on stage, in TV, film and radio for years -- most recently he guested on an episode of "Louie," served as a type of mentor figure in Mike Birbiglia's "Sleepwalk With Me" and played a significant role in the documentary "The Bitter Buddha." Maron's podcast, "Wtf With Marc Maron," is a combination of confessional and deeply personal one-on-one interviews with various guests that's one of the best of its kind on the web -- a...

In September 2009, broke from a nasty divorce and having just been fired for the third time by Air America, comedian Marc Maron started interviewing other comedians about their woes for a fledgling Internet medium. Few others in comedy had podcasts at the time, and even for those who did, it was unclear whether anyone was listening. So from that vacuum, with nothing left to lose, Maron started having conversations with his peers, about craft and the punishing nature of the job, but also just about life and the shit that we endure along the way. Serving as a sympathetic sounding post (some would say "therapist," but Maron hates that designation), he's managed to talk to Robin Williams about drug addiction and hug it out on air with his former best friend Louis C.K. Now his podcast, "Wtf With Marc Maron," which he records most often from his garage in...

If you are among the many who have been told that you really should be listening to Marc Maron’s Wtf podcast, yet your instinct is to scream, “Don’t tell me what to do!” and punch those people in the face, here is your chance to make up for everything but the face-punching. On April 24, Maron will release the limited-edition Wtf With Marc Maron box set, comprised of two discs packed with the first 100 episodes of Maron’s interviews with guests like Patton Oswalt, Sarah Silverman, Zach Galifianakis, Robin Williams, Ben Stiller, Dane Cook, and even the ...

Standup comedian and former Air America host Marc Maron has established himself as one of the premiere comedy podcasters and defining voices in the emerging genre with his Wtf With Marc Maron, which features funny, intimate and in-depth interviews with everyone from Louis C.K. to Janeane Garofalo to Judd Apatow to Gallagher (who infamously walked out halfway through). And now Vulture is reporting that a rep from the show has confirmed that IFC has greenlit 10 episodes of an autobiographical single-camera comedy starring and created by Maron. [Update: IFC's confirmed that the show will tentatively be titled "Maron" and is slated for the third quarter of 2013. In addition, "Portlandia" will be back for a third season in January 2013.] The comedian talked about shooting the pilot on an episode of Wtf last summer and it screened at the New York Television Festival last fall -- Vulture's Margaret Lyons describes it as having "a...

"Two years ago, I planned on killing myself in my garage. Now, I'm in my garage doing the best work I've ever done."This is how viewers are introduced to comedian and podcast host Marc Maron in his new independent comedy pilot, which premiered Tuesday night in New York City as part of the New York Television Festival's Opening Night Comedy Extravaganza. Presented with the working title "Maron," the show opens with Maron speaking directly to the camera, sharing his neuroses with someone we assume is his therapist. But no, he's just trying to connect with his cat's veterinarian. That type of straightforward, confessional comedy has been Maron's trademark for more than two decades as a standup comic. Today he reaches hundreds of thousands of listeners as the host of "Wtf With Marc Maron," a popular podcast—recorded in the garage of his home near L.A. that he calls "the cat ranch"—in which.
