During the continuing filming process, extensive collecting of material and development over years, an alternative 2 1/2 hour feature-length documentary called "Roots of a Tree" (aka "Koreni Jednog Drveta") was already created and edited in 2018. That one focuses more on the private / family life of the protagonist and is not meant to be shown in public. In 2020, new interviews with sportspeople and shootings with the protagonist led to the public documentary "A Lifetime in the Game". This one reuses some material of the older edited film, but consists of much more new material that focuses on the journalistic career and connection with sportspeople. Despite similarities, due to its different length, editing and focus, "A Lifetime in the Game" has to be regarded as a stand-alone film.
Original music composer Sasa Krstic became famous in his hometown Jagodina when he was a musician for rock bands like West and Metro in the 80's. When he started to work on the soundtrack for this movie in 2019, it marked his return to music creation after a 27 years hiatus.
Olympic Champion in Target Shooting, Goran Maksimovic, lives in Japan nowadays. It was a coincidence that he was visiting Belgrade for a few days, so the interview could be filmed.
This film had been a long-term project. The first shootings were already done in 2009, the most recent ones are from 2020 (made shortly before the worldwide outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic). Editing and post-production were just finished in August 2021, shortly before the 90th birthday of the protagonist.
From the cast, artist Miroslav Debeljakovic is also a real (stage) actor and this marks his third film collaboration with the director.
