Back in May we got our first look at Bill Oberst, Jr., in the found footage saga of The Black Water Vampire, and now, with Image Entertainment set to release the film in early 2014, a trailer has arrived. Check it out, and look for more soon.
Jesse Baget (Breathless, Cellmates) wrote and produced the film under his Ruthless Pictures banner. Evan Tramel directed. In addition to Bill Oberst, Jr., The Black Water Vampire stars Danielle Lozeau (The Eye, Legion), Andrea Monier (Elizabethtown, Are You Scared 2), Robin Steffen (The Lackey), and Anthony Fanelli.
The Black Water Vampire follows a documentary film crew as they investigate a series of brutal killings known as the Black Water Murders. As they delve deeper into the story, the crew stumbles upon a horrifying secret buried deep in the woods, a secret they might not survive.

Mischief. We love mischief. We especially love mischief that leads to a night of murder and frightening mayhem. That kind is the best for sure. That being said, the new film Mischief Night more than has our interest piqued.

It’s absolutely no surprise that writer-director Jesse Baget, of this week’s “Breathless,” is a massive fan of the Coen Brothers. His characters are articulate without being too bright, magnanimous despite moments of cruelty, and loyal in spite of overwhelming greed. Earlier this year, he was responsible for the theatrically-released “Cellmates,” which peppered gags into the straight-faced story of a racist finding redemption behind bars. No such moral obligations trouble “Breathless,” an old-fashioned talky potboiler that utilizes the verbal gymnastics of an overwritten script to hide the fact that this actor’s exercise takes place at only one location. The flipside of her tough-talking matriarch that brings sass and sense into “Killer Joe,” Gina Gershon stars as Lorna, a put-upon Texan wife to one of those classic no-good varmint-types, tall-walking cowboy Dale (Val Kilmer). Dale, as charming as he might be,...

Jesse Baget’s newest dark comedy/thriller Breathless is coming to Blu-Ray in just a couple of weeks and today we have a brand new red band trailer, plus a brief clip from the film, which stars Gina Gershon, Kelli Giddish, Val Kilmer and Ray Liotta.
First up is the red band trailer, which offers up a mostly awkward approach to the whole situation, which doesn’t come off as funny as you’d think. The film is about two friends that try and steal money from one of their husbands, by killing him and somehow getting rid of the body before the sheriff gets wind of the whole situation.
It looks like a horror/comedy hybrid that doesn’t really nestle in the dark category as much as it nestles in the oddly toned category. I’m all for the occasional weird horror comedy, but Breathless might be crossing...

Though every week it seems Tom Sizemore leads enough straight-to-dvd releases for video stores (remember those?) to devote a new release wall in his honor, he still manages to sneak a theatrical appearance in occasionally. His latest, “Cellmates” may not have been the return he (or anyone) was hoping for, but after signing on to star in Peter Bogdanovich's “John Ledger,” the actor is now working multiple roles putting together a crime drama that could pull his career together.
Polimedia Films have announced Sizemore will both exec produce and star in “An Honest Thief,” from a script by his brother Aaron Sizemore, and the actor's already expressed a keen interest on two specific people for his cast. In a recent interview with We Got This Covered, Sizemore said, “We're hoping Woody [Harrelson] will be in the movie and we're trying to get Ryan Phillippe too. Woody is 50/50 right now and...

Movies can deliver a powerful message by humanizing what many consider to be the dregs of society, casting a light on what demons drive the darkness and bigotry in their heart. It’s the meaning of great art, finding humanity in the least-likely places. “Cellmates,” which is not great art, centers on former Ku Klux Klansman Leroy Lowe, an unpleasant, ornery man with decidedly unenlightened racial politics, as he attempts to stay true to his rotten self from behind bars. So far, so unpleasant.
Taking a folksy tone, “Cellmates” frames Lowe as a former political mover-and-shaker to just another undereducated grunt from within prison, defanging his racial views by downgrading them from a macro to micro level. Unfortunately, Lowe’s new roommate, Mexican day laborer Emilio, provides a challenge for this Southern fried bigot, with his ersatz accent, kinky hair and liberal views. The victim of a strong response to a worker’s strike,...

Chicago – I’ve always rooted for Tom Sizemore. Without question, if real-life addiction hadn’t derailed his career, he would be one of our more interesting actors. Go and rent “Natural Born Killers,” “Heat,” and “Saving Private Ryan” if you think I’m wrong. I think about what Sizemore might be doing if he could work with modern masters again like the Coens, Scorsese, or Tarantino. Instead, he’s trying to revive his career with a lead role in a film that’s essentially going straight to On Demand (and opening in New York and L.A. on June 1st), the unique dramedy “Cellmates.” While there’s some notable efforts here, the final result misses its mark.

Title: Cellmates Director: Jesse Baget Starring: Tom Sizemore, Hector Jimenez, Olga Segura, Kevin Farley, Stacy Keach A slight but amiable prison-set satire that mines the thawing relationship between a hardened Ku Klux Klansman and a Mexican farmhand, festival-minted “Cellmates” surfs along mostly on the good fortune of its casting and sly peculiarity of its forced-odd-couple premise. If writer-director Jesse Baget’s movie ultimately doesn’t seem to burrow down and fully comedically exploit its conceit, it’s at least pleasant to see Tom Sizemore back and fully engaged in something other than Eastern European-produced genre tripe. The movie unfolds in 1977, when Klansman Grand Dragon Leroy Lowe (Sizemore) gets sentenced to a stint [ Read More ]...

Tom Sizemore has had quite a year, appearing in no fewer than eighteen films (and a starring role in Hawaii Five-o on television) in 2011, (including the superb White Knight from brilliant young director-to-watch Jesse Baget), and his 2012 is already shaping up to be another gauntlet for the actor. Of the eleven projects he currently has in production, none has us as excited as the announcement of an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s Morella.
Morella will be the directorial debut for Adam Ropp, and is being produced by Ford (Dahmer Vs Gacy) Austin. Sizemore, who will be playing Father Murray, is teaming up with Margaret (Meet Me In St. Louis) O’Brien, screen legend Tony Curtis (in archival footage), Randal (Curse Of Lizzie Borden) Malone, and Eric (Terminal) Wasserman in this contemporary take on the classic macabre tale, first published in 1835. The film is in production with a 2013 release date yet to be announced.

Jesse Baget’s Cellmates (originally titled White Knight) was one of my top picks at this year’s Arizona Underground Film Festival – and the biggest surprise of the fest simply because when I read the feature’s synopsis in the program my first thought was there’s no way this film would work. When one sees the phrase “buddy comedy” the names Tom Sizemore and Stacy Keach just don’t come to mind. Add in Héctor Jiménez of Nacho Libre and we might be getting closer…but still. Sizemore as a former Klansman meets Keach as a potato-obsessed warden meets Jiménez as an activist immigrant laborer (set in a Texas prison) sounds like a recipe for disaster. So it’s a testament to the sharp talent of Tucson-native Jesse Baget and his co-screenwriter Stefania Moscato that Cellmates not only shines as a hilarious comedy, it doubles as a sweet-natured satire on racism.

The Arizona Underground Film Festival keeps picking and screening the best in world extreme cinema and their fourth annual edition, which will run Sep. 16-24 in Tucson is no exception, compiling outrageous cult epics from countries such as Japan, Switzerland and Cuba; as well as some local nastiness produced in the fest’s own backyard.
The fest opens with Jack Perez’s Some Guy Who Kills People, a comedy thriller executive produced by John Landis and starring Kevin Corrigan as a loser who gets sadistic revenge on those he feels have wronged him.
While the opening night film is a big name affair, Auff is also celebrating local freaky film fare with films such as the film noir Sweet Love and Deadly, directed by Paul Clinco; and the horror comedy Dick Night, directed by Andy Viner.

New York, Aug 17 (Ians/Efe) Olga Segura and Hector Jimenez are proud of their work in 'White Knight', a comedy in which two Mexicans manage to change the mentality of a Ku Klux Klan leader.
The movie is one of the highlights of this week's New York International Latino Film Festival.
The feature film marks Segura's debut in Hollywood, where she came ready to do whatever it might take to get started, and judging by the opportunities opening for her, she's doing it right.

No, Jean-Luc Godard‘s French New Wave classic isn’t being remade yet again. Instead, as Variety puts it, a slate of actors have been cast in the new thriller Breathless, from director Jesse Baget. That cast includes Val Kilmer, Ray Liotta, and Gina Gershon, all of whom make up one of the more prolific casts that the filmmaker has worked with so far.
Written by Baget and Stefania Moscato, the story follows Gershon‘s character, a wife who collaborates with her friend to get rid of her husband, as she’s “fed up with [his] criminal acts.” Liotta has been cast as a local sheriff who becomes involved with the story, and Kilmer is playing the husband. Kelli Giddish is also in the cast, but the details of her role havent’t been disclosed yet.
Baget will get a much wider audience next year when his heist film Mississippi Wild hits theaters.
