Liam Neeson is checking into “Hotel Tehran.”
The Oscar-nominee turned on-screen avenging angel is joining the previously announced Zachary Levi in the new action-thriller from Guy Moshe. Cameras will start rolling in late summer. The rest of the ensemble will be cast in the coming weeks.
“I’m thrilled to welcome Liam Neeson to ‘Hotel Tehran,'” Moshe said. “He is a true thespian and an icon in our industry. The character he plays, Larry, is complex, irreverent, and inspired by real people. I know his fans around the world will relish seeing him inhabit this distinct role and I can’t wait to be there to capture it.”
Neeson was initially best known for his work in serious-minded dramas such as “Schindler’s List” and “Kinsey,” but he’s become an action icon since “Taken” took the box office by storm in 2008. His work in the genre includes roles in “The Grey” and “Non-Stop.

Alfred Molina has gone viral for sharing an emotional story to Vanity Fair about his father, who never vocally supported his son’s acting career. Molina once had the chance to become the manager of a restaurant for a higher salary. He turned it down to pursue the arts, which baffled his father. This was long before Molina became a Tony and BAFTA-nominated actor, plus an iconic movie villain thanks to Doctor Octopus in Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man 2.”
“When I was very young, my dad got me a job as a waiter in the restaurant where he was working. If I say so myself, I was a good waiter to the point where the management offered me the chance to do a two-week management training course,” Molina said. “I turned it down because I got an acting job. My father says, ‘This acting job, how much are they paying you?...

Zachary Levi brings a beloved children’s book character to life in the trailer for animated/live-action hybrid movie Harold and the Purple Crayon.
Carlos Saldanha’s adaptation of Crockett Johnson’s classic shows a fresh version of Harold, who is now a grown-up. With the ability to create anything with his purple crayon, Harold opens a world of possibilities, from creating terrifying flying tarantulas to producing an airplane on the fly.
Luckily, Harold isn’t navigating real life alone, as he gets help from his new friends, Moose (Lil Rel Howery) and Mel (Benjamin Bottani). Harold also gets guidance from an enigmatic figure named Gary (Jemaine Clement).
“Do you know what brought you to life?,” Gary asks Harold. “It’s what your crayon is made of. The most mysterious,...

Exclusive: Sony, which kicked off CinemaCon last year, is skipping this year’s exhibitor-studio conference in Las Vegas that runs April 8-11 at Caesars Palace.
This happens from time to time when a major studio will sit out, and it’s not a diss to theater owners. The last time Sony didn’t attend CinemaCon was in 2019. Quite often this is a cost-savings thing for studios when they skip CinemaCon. To get ready for the April confab, there’s a big rush to ready a year’s worth of trailers and clips, solidify VFX and sound effects, and plan stars’ travel within the next three months. Complicating all of that, however, is the impact of the dual strikes’ on Q3 and Q4 theatrical releases which caused a delay in production, and thus an ultimate post-production logjam. Sony, I understand, is focusing on getting back to max theatrical feature outpost now that the strikes are over.

Netflix reportedly paid more than $1 billion for the right to stream all the new Sony movies from 2022-26. And so far, it looks like Netflix overpaid by a mile. We’ll detail the lackluster output in a moment, but first, let’s focus on the next Sony bomb on its way. Behold the trailer for “Madame Web.”
Yes, this actually includes a real human saying, “He was in the Amazon with my Mom when she was researching spiders right before she died.”
On your internet forum of choice, you’ll find unanimous scorn about this trailer. It’s a level of mockery we haven’t seen since the trailers for “Cats” or the terrifying first version of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” teaser. In an era of overwhelming superhero fatigue, “Madame Web” almost looks like it was made to out-flop “The Flash.”
While this certainly seems like a “Morbius”-level red flag for Sony,...

Lately, in the overwrought majority of Hollywood blockbusters, nothing less than the fate of the planet hangs in the balance, as some natural disaster or dastardly supervillain threatens to annihilate life as we know it. Such impossibly large stakes may be necessary to justify the CG spectacle of certain Marvel movies, but instead of inspiring excitement, they mostly leave me ambivalent and bored. But focus in on something as simple as whether a young girl can have the chicken dish that reminds her of her late dad, and I’m riveted. Bonus points if said cartoon feels more realistic than most live-action fare.

Craving answers about “Kraven the Hunter”? Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s got one very important bit of information for you: “Fuck yes, it’s gonna be rated R,” he said (from afar) during Sony’s presentation Monday night at CinemaCon 2023.
That prerecorded video set the tone for the very, very bloody first footage, which Sony rolled to the riled-up attendees — movie theater owners, mostly — at the Caesar’s Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas. What we got wasn’t technically a trailer, we were told: Sony executive Sanford Panitch said the full “Kraven” trailer will be released in theaters this summer.
The teaser (let’s call it) ended with the reveal of the film’s baddie, the classic Spider-Man villain The Rhino; the audience seemed to dig that.
“Kraven the Hunter,” based on the Marvel Comics, is Sony’s first-ever R-rated Marvel movie.

Zooey Deschanel rejects being labeled a manic pixie dream girl. The term, now a dated female stereotype in film and TV, became a staple in the mid-to-late 2000s to describe quirky female characters whose main purpose was to save their male counterpart or teach him about the meaning of love and life.
Deschanel became the face of manic pixie dream girls thanks to her role opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt in “500 Days of Summer,” and it’s a trope she never seemed to be able to escape during her career. Even though her character on the Fox comedy series “New Girl” was more fleshed out than the typical manic pixie dream girl, Deschanel’s trademark quirkiness always made her critics label her as such. Along with Deschanel in “500 Days of Summer,” popular examples of the trope included Natalie Portman in “Garden State” and Kirsten Dunst in “Elizabethtown.”
