The detective tells the Sheriff near the end that she did a good job and saved lives. In fact she violated some fundamental law enforcement procedures and caused the loss of life:
1) Do not enter a facility where there is an armed suspect by yourself. A deputy was with her but she sent him away.
2) Always secure a suspect by handcuffing them. Instead of doing this with the male, she freed the female, who then attacked the male, who then shot the female, which required the Sheriff to shoot the male. Had she followed proper procedure, none of these injuries would have taken place.
The police car used by the Sheriff was a mid-90's Chevy Caprice. While they were popular and durable police cars, by 2013 they were nearly antiques as the final year of production was 1996. As of 2013 this car would have been 17 years old. Due to hard use, the lifespan of patrol cars is usually around 5 years.
