- Zachary Knight: [to Marshal Russell] You're relieved of all law enforcement function. Official reason: stupidity.
- Zeb Macahan: Frances, I, eh, I got some words to say to ya, might come to have some real importance for ya one o' these days. You know the little gall out there, Doreen? Why she's scareder o' you than the devil itself.
- Francis Britten: Hm. I wonder why that would be?
- Zeb Macahan: You know, she's gonna be testifying against you. And then she's gonna be getting on a stage for eastern parts, hopin' never to see you again.
- Francis Britten: Well, I'll try to remember to wish her a pleasant trip.
- Zeb Macahan: Well I hope you remember too, Francis, not to ever try and see her again. I'll tell you why: I'm gonna be keepin' an eye on Doreen. If anything ever happens to her, I'm gonna come lookin' for you.
- Francis Britten: Do you always take this long to make your point?
- Zeb Macahan: Only when the man I'm talkin' to has his life dependin' on it. Now, the point being this: anything ever happens to Doreen, anywhere, anytime, I'm gonna come after you. And I'll make you a promise: I'm gonna turn your hide over to the Apache's. And then I'm gonna pay 'em for every day they keep you alive over a slow fire. Now I never broke a promise, Francis. You think about that.
- Felix: If that's who I think it is, we got another Macahan on our hands. Named Zeb.
- Martin Stillman: I heard about him, I never met 'em.
- Felix: Well he's not a man to tangle with. Indians call him White Eagle. There's some superstition in the tribes that the bullet ain't been made yet that can kill 'em.
- Martin Stillman: That's heathen nonsense. Are you afraid of 'em?
- Felix: No, just lettin' you know that he's kin to Luke 'n Josh and we're gonna have to deal with 'em.
- Zeb Macahan: You know, Stillman, I was gonna here and watch you shrivel up and blow away. But I don't think I will. Wouldn't be any more than watchin' a sick rat die.
- Zeb Macahan: Owe you more than I can ever pay.
- Oran Nubley: You don't owe me nothin'. 's Allmighty's doin'.
- Zeb Macahan: Never deny His help.
- Laura Macahan: We started off for Oregon over eight years ago and we're still nowhere near it.
- [giggles]
- Zeb Macahan: Well, I'll tell ya, Laura, Oregon ain't goin' anywhere, and you kids might as well see as much o'the country out here as you can while you're young enough to enjoy it. There's more out here than anybody can see in a lifetime. Why, there's painted deserts and huge trees turned to stone, canyons a mile deep and mountains... why there's mountains that got meadows so green, makes your eyes ache just to look at 'em. Yes sir, folks, it's a big country. Real big country! Maybe the greatest country in the whole damn world!
- Molly Culhane: Zebulon, do try to mind your language in front of the children.
- Zeb Macahan: [chuckles] Yes, ma'am.
- Francis Britten: Who the hell are you?
- Zeb Macahan: Name's Macahan, mister. Now you and me's going down to jail house. You can come peacable like or you can come tied in a knot, that's up to you.
- Francis Britten: Those are mighty magnificent words. 'Specially if you're... backed up by that... large knife there. And that very large gun.
- Zeb Macahan: I ain't plannin' to use nothin' on you but my bare hands, mister.
