Johnny Paycheck would have turned 83 this past Monday. In 1977, he scored three consecutive Top 10 country songs, including his biggest hit, the No. 1 “Take This Job and Shove It.” But while Paycheck, who died at age 64 in 2003, is synonymous with the song about sticking it to — and flipping off — The Man, it was actually written by David Allan Coe. Coe cut his version for his 1978 Family Album and performed it frequently in his shows, including on the latter-day concert document Biketoberfest ’01: Live From the Iron Horse Saloon.

Year in review list mania each day. Here's Nathaniel...
This is our fourth year of highlighting that unpredictable spark between actors that can elevate a movie whether the movie is able to catch up or not. If only we could bottle these formulas but the thing about great chemistry is that it can't ever be fully recreated even if old movies during the studio system teach us that the same pairing can at least generate similar energy again. Why Hollywood doesn't still try to repackage successful combos of actors (rather than just all the brand do-overs) remains an unsolved mystery
Herewith the most beautifully realized relationship energy of the year...

And Josh Hamilton & Elsie Fisher, Eighth Grade (Single Father/Teenage Daughter)

Single father Brett Winek just made his son's biggest dreams come true. The Tennessee native had just purchased a brand new red Mustang, which he transformed into the Cars star Lightning McQueen in honor of his 3-year-old, Holden. Apparently his son is obsessed with any and all things Cars and understandably was shocked by the sight of his dad's new ride. "Just to give you an example, he watched Cars 2 yesterday, 3 times," Brett told Yahoo Parenting. "McQueen is his favorite character, and he loves Mater, too. He has both of the characters in toy cars and mimics their sayings all the time while playing. And I'll be cooking dinner or washing clothes and just hear him...

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.
But what has happened to the class of '05? Where are Rose and Mickey now? What is the writer of 'Dalek' up to? And where can you see more work from the director of 'Rose'?
Here it is then, your guide to the main players of Doctor Who series one.
The Cast
After his three-month on-screen stint as the Doctor, Christopher Eccleston's career continued in much the same vein, taking in theatre, interesting television roles and the odd blockbuster.
Post-2005, the Northern actor went Stateside to take on the role of invisible man Claude in the Us series Heroes. From there, he popped up in a very amusing Doctor Who-esque cameo as Dr.

Young at Heart: Paltrow’s Sci-Fi Western is All Dried Up
Dystopic draught heralds the end of times for the parable that serves as Jake Paltrow’s sophomore effort, Young Ones. A mash-up of classic Western and ambitious sci-fi, the whole is not the sum of its parts, fluctuating between flashes of stylized visual flourishes in the midst of a quickly withering narrative, Paltrow seems to squander the abundant opportunities laid out by the promising set-up. It’s this kernel of potential that makes the film seem even more of a disappointment, methodically churning into a stagnant trench of recycled Greek tragedy themes, a familial saga of vengeance, murder, and inheritance never coalescing into a comfortable stride.
In a world gone dry, surviving members of the human race do the best they can to eke out an existence. The oceans having evaporated long ago, families of farmers do what...

Review Louisa Mellor 5 Nov 2013 - 22:00
The Escape Artist is an effective thriller, but is it anything more? Here's Louisa's look at the second episode...
This review contains spoilers.
Last week, The Escape Artist took a TV-movie-of-the-week premise (barrister gets a murder suspect off only for his wife to become the killer’s next victim), and promised to develop it into something clever and probing. After spending a second hour in its company though, clever and probing have been traded in for sensationalist and manipulative.
This middle chunk of the drama gave us shallow scares and mawkish sentiment. Reflective moments came unnecessarily accompanied by plonking ‘sad bit’ piano (we know how to feel about kids with murdered mums without a prompt, if it’s all the same to you). The decision to cut straight from a frolicking wedding-video Kate to the crime scene photographs of her throat-slit corpse felt similarly tacky.

Chicago – What do a multi-year procedural like “Bones,” a tragically canceled show like “Alcatraz,” and a struggling new show like “Touch” share other than the fact that you’ll find their most recent (or only) seasons the New Release shelf at your DVD & Blu-ray store? Not much other than the fact that all three are strong examples of how Fox has had difficulty finding an identity in recent years. “Alcatraz” was highly promoted but missed its audience. “Touch” was a surprising renewal that has now had its second season delayed. Only “Bones” has remained a reliable hit for the network that really needs a new one.
Given the loyal audience for “Bones,” one could presume that “Bones: The Complete Seventh Season” is probably the cream of this crop. It is telling that Fox even releases the show on Blu-ray given that many of their programs are standard-dvd releases only,...

ABC's Suburgatory is a show that, whatever else it may manage, is going to have a lot of critics talking. A lot of them are going to love it, and I suspect a lot of viewers will as well, but a lot of them are going to wonder what the hell anyone could see in it. Either way, this is not a show that is going to slip past without comment.
On the other hand, it's also a show that may be in too tricky a situation to survive, no matter how many people are mentioning it to you. It's on Wednesdays following another popular sitcom, The Middle, and there is even a sense in which the two shows are somewhat aligned in their social commentary. As helpful as that may be, the reality is that both shows are on against X-Factor and Survivor. Of course, they are also up against two other sitcoms,...

Doctor Who has triumphed at the 2011 TV Choice Awards, taking home two trophies. The BBC One sci-fi series won 'Best Family Drama', while Karen Gillan, who plays Amy Pond in the show, won 'Best Actress'. Sherlock won 'Best New Drama' for the BBC, while ex-Doctor David Tennant beat the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and Matt Smith for 'Best Actor', for his performance in Single Father. Suburgatory is a brand new sitcom set to air on ABC and stars Jeremy Sisto (“Law & Order”) as George Altman, Jane Levy (“Shameless”) as Tessa Altman, Carly Chaikin (“The Last Song”) as Dalia Royce, Allie Grant (“Weeds”) as Lisa, Alan Tudyk (“V”) as Noah Lerner and Cheryl Hines (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”) as Dallas Royce.
The one and only reason I’m interested to see new sitcom Suburgatory is for Tudyk – between his comedic, also farcical role in Tucker and Dale Vs. Evil to his camp scene-stealing performance in Transformers 3, I’m eager to see more comedy from the versatile actor.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Single father George only wants the best for his 16-year-old daughter, Tessa. So when he finds a box of condoms on her nightstand, he moves them out of their apartment in New York City to a house in the suburbs. But all Tessa sees...

ABC has a slew of new shows coming, many of which need a lot of luck if they're going to last more than a handful of episodes. The schedule has been released, so let's take a lot at what's coming.
Oddly enough, as part of the new announcement, ABC has solidified the return of several more shows, including Happy Endings, despite the fact that two other networks have shows on their slate with cast members from the show. That should be interesting. Of course, it works for me, because I'm a fan.
In other news, Desperate Housewives will not die. Are you kidding me with this show still being on?
New Series - “Apartment 23,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Good Christian Belles,” “Last Man Standing,” “Man Up,” “Missing,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Pan Am,” “Revenge,” “The River,” “Scandal,” “Suburgatory” and “Work It” Join the Lineup

Earlier we shared ABC's primetime lineup, and now we have some clips from the new comedy series for you. The new comedies include Apartment 23, Suburgatory, Last Man Standing, Man Up, and Work It. So far I think Apartment 23 looks the best. Check out the clips below and let us know what shows you are liking the most.
Apartment 23
After a naive Midwestern girl's big city dreams are dashed her first week in New York, she finds herself living with her worst nightmare in this hilarious, contemporary comedy about a female odd couple who are surrounded by an outrageous cast of characters. June (Dreama Walker) moves to Manhattan for a dream job and the perfect company apartment, only to have them disappear in a puff of reality, thanks to a CEO from the Bernie Madoff school of embezzlement. Deep in debt and out on the streets, June scrambles to land a job and place to live.

NBC and Fox have both unleashed their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. I’m excited to see Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. Most of the new shows they have line-up don’t really interest me, but there are a few that have caught my eye. PanAm is another 1960’s based TV show that will go against AMC’s Mad Men and NBC’s The Playboy Club. There’s a show called Revenge that sounds really interesting, but the new series I’m most excited about is is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.
Here is ABC’s full schedule along with a description of all of their shows. Go through them below and let us know what TV series you’re most excited about seeing.

Chicago – NBC & Fox released their schedules already this week and there are a few interesting highlights, but ABC has released easily the most aggressive and ambitious new slate of programs, which will feature at least one new program five nights a week. Overall, they’re debuting seven new programs in the Fall alone, clearly trying to cement an exciting schedule before the mid-season instead of holding back programs for 2012.

ABC hopes 13 is its lucky number. The network has picked up a baker’s dozen new shows to populate its fall and midseason schedule, which includes opening a new comedy block.
Mondays will stay the same with Dancing With the Stars and Castle. Tuesdays will open with a comedy hour that includes Tim Allen’s new sitcom, Last Man Standing, paired with another new comedy, Man Up. Wednesdays adds new comedy Suburgatory, plus soap thriller, Revenge, at 10 p.m., with Cougar Town shifting to midseason and Happy Endings getting the Modern Family lead-in. Charlie’s Angels will go into Thursdays at 8 p.

London, Oct 8 – Former ‘Doctor Who’ star David Tennant has revealed how he had to repeatedly shoot for a sex scene-as the film crew could not have enough of his bum.
The actor is seen in a steamy clinch with co-star Suranne Jones for his new BBC drama ‘Single Father.’
But Tennant said he had to do many takes to make sure there was enough of his bottom on display.
“There was a whole sequence with them going ‘no sorry, we can’t see your a***. Sorry, go again.’” the Mirror quoted him as telling Absolute Radio.

The Sarah Jane Adventures! Harry Hill! David Tennant! Mark Gatiss! Benedict Cumberbatch! Chuck! Whitechapel! And so, so much more!

I've found myself extremely distracted this morning. The cause: this gorgeous sizzle reel put together by BBC for their upcoming drama offerings, which include Accused, Aurelio Zen, Christopher and His Kind, The Crimson Petal and the White, Doctor Who Christmas Special, The First Men in the Moon, Hattie, Lip Service, The Nativity, Outcasts, The Shadow Line, Silk, Single Father, The Song of Lunch, South Riding, Toast, Upstairs Downstairs, When Harvey Met Bob, and Women in Love. (Whew.) Look for cameos from Matt Smith, David Tennant, and Christopher Eccleston, which must be the first time the three most recent actors playing the Doctor have appeared in anything together. Even if it is just a sizzle reel. You can view Auntie Beeb's slick and provocative reel below. Just be forewarned: you'll probably want to watch it again and again. Meanwhile, the Beeb also announced upcoming dramas from Sam Mendes, Jane Campion, and Sir David Hare.
