Missy Elliott has announced the 2024 “Out of this World — The Missy Elliott Experience” Tour, and she’ll be bringing along some special guests: Busta Rhymes, Ciara, and Timbaland will open each date of the summer trek.
Despite being a festival headliner and established live act, the “Out of this World” tour is Missy Elliott’s first headlining tour. Of her debut trek, Missy Elliot wrote in a statement: “This is an incredible time in my life as I am experiencing so many milestone ‘firsts.’ Being the First female hip-hop artist to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now going out on my First headline tour,” Elliott shared. “Fans have been asking me to tour forever but I wanted to wait until I felt the time was right because I knew if I was ever going to do it, I had to do it big, and I...

On their latest album, American Primitive, the Old 97’s have sandwiched songs about assessing their life choices and serial monogamy with reminders that the world is a doomed and hopeless place and that if you’ve found even a modicum of joy, then that day is a triumph. On the first track, “Falling Down,” they try to frighten you into gratitude via a caustic surf-rock apocalypse built with tremolo electric and strummed acoustic guitars, as frontman Rhett Miller sings, “You’ve got to dance like the world is falling down around you — because it is.

“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

The Crown’s swansong season has dominated the BAFTA TV nominations, picking up eight in a record year for Netflix.
Although it missed out in the coveted Drama Series category, four of the Netflix royal smash’s actors were handed nods today including Dominic West, who played Prince Charles, and Elizabeth Debicki, who was Princess Diana. Salim Daw and Lesley Manville are the other two nominated actors and actresses, while The Crown also received nominations in the likes of costume design, make up and sound.
Netflix achieved a record haul and was second only to the BBC with nominations, comfortably eclipsing stalwarts ITV and Channel 4 as Top Boy and Black Mirror were also rewarded.
Although not its most critically-rated season, Peter Morgan’s royal saga ended late last year with a bang and plenty controversy, and the noms come amid the ongoing Kate Middleton saga.

Exclusive: Boutique distributor Juno Films has picked up North American and UK rights to This World is Not My Own, a documentary portrait of the folk artist Nellie Mae Rowe from filmmakers Petter Ringbom and Marquise Stillwell, which premiered earlier this year at SXSW. The award-winner will be released in theaters in the summer of 2024.
Beginning with her birthday on July 4, 1900, Rowe’s life spanned the 20th century. For most of it, she made art in obscurity, propelled by a force she viewed as a God-given gift. As the daughter of a sharecropper and former slave, Rowe made art from whatever she could find. As an adult, she transformed her home into her “Playhouse,” an imaginative oasis filled with vibrant drawings, handmade sculptures and dolls, and collected objects. Six years before her death, a wealthy gallerist, Judith Alexander, “discovered” and introduced her work to the art world.

“In the heyday of cinema, everyone was making a film a year.”
Prolific UK director Michael Winterbottom has railed against the pace of filmmaking in the UK, saying it has become the norm to make a film just once every three or four years.
“It’s worth remembering that in the heyday of cinema, everyone was making a film a year,” said the director who has made over 30 films in his career. “People were making 20 or 30 films – that, I think, is healthy. If you think about how things have changed since then, nothing has got more complicated; in fact it has got easier.

Early in 2010, Bret McKenzie decided it was about time he started guitar lessons. The New Zealand-born actor and songwriter enrolled himself in a class at the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, a music school founded in 2001 by Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea. McKenzie’s new guitar teacher was naturally curious about what had inspired him to head back to school alongside children and beginners. He told him he had a show coming up. “He was like: ‘Oh that’s good, where are you playing?’” recalls the 46-year-old in his broad Kiwi accent. Sitting in the light and airy home studio above his garage in Wellington, he contorts his more-salt-than-pepper beard into an awkward grimace. “I was like: ‘Er, yeah... we’re playing the Hollywood Bowl.” He bursts out laughing. “Something very strange happened there.”

Warning: We're about to discuss the most shocking moment from this week's all-new episode of Riverdale! Hop on your bike and speed out of here if you do not want to be spoiled…
Betty stripped down for Jughead… in front of a whole crowd of people, including her mom! Confused? Let us explain.
In this week's all-new episode of Riverdale, "Chapter 21: House of the Devil," Betty was determined to find a way to stay close to Jughead so that she could keep a protective eye over her boyfriend as he wades deeper into those "snake-infested waters."
"So what, you want to be a Serpent?" Toni asked Betty with a hint of sarcasm.
"Let's say Serpent-adjacent," Betty answered seriously. "But yeah, part of his world. This world."
In order to make that happen, Betty discovered that she would need to do the "Serpent dance," which is an "outdated and sexist tradition" in which the wannabe Serpent ladies strip down...

Now playing in theaters across the globe, Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon’s Justice League has been dogged by mediocre reviews ever since its release on November 17th. It looks like things will only get worse before they get better, too, what with analysts claiming the pic will now limp miserably toward a $700 million box office tally, despite initial estimations projecting a billion-dollar home run for the suits at Warner Bros.
But there is an S-shaped light at the end of the tunnel – and no, we’re not talking about the Man of Steel, but rather Zack Snyder, whose cut is reportedly “much longer” than Justice League‘s theatrical version. Not only that, but it’s said to feature more cameos, too. Obviously, there’s an intense demand from the fanbase for Warner Bros. to release it – including a massive petition online – but so far, the studio’s remained silent in regards to their plans.

Early on next week, one of the most enjoyable precursors will announce their nominations. Of course, I’m talking about the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Predicting them are always an absolute shot in the dark, and normally I wait until the nominees are announced, but hey, why not be bold this year, right? Fortune favors the bold, after all. So, I’ll be giving this a shot. If nothing else, it’s a fun exercise. The Spirit Awards are the fun cousin to the Academy Award, so while it doesn’t have the prestige of winning an Oscar, it represents something very honorable as well. For some, it’s even the more cherished prize. In any event, read on to see my complete guess at Spirit Award results… Depending on what is eligible, my picks could be way off, so just keep that in mind. For what it’s worth,...

Margaret Lanterman said her final goodbye near the end of Part 15, speaking to Deputy Hawk (Michael Horse) over the phone and telling him, “You know about death; that it’s just a change, not an end.” The Log Lady’s speech was heartfelt enough to elicit tears, but the moment was even more emotional as actress Catherine E. Coulson died from cancer two years before the scene aired on television.

Ubisoft shocked the gaming world last year when they announced that their annual sandbox history lesson, Assassin’s Creed, was taking the year off. The move was made so that Ubisoft Montreal, the masterminds behind the critically-acclaimed Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, could finish up their newest entry without any pressure of meeting a predetermined release date. The extra time seemingly paid off, as Assassin’s Creed Origins is the benefactor of the extra year of development, solidifying itself as another excellent entry in the now-decade long struggle between the Templar Order and the Brotherhood of Assassins.
Assassin’s Creed Origins is just that; an origin story of how the Brotherhood came to be, dating all the way back to Dynastic Egypt, circa 48 Bce. The main character, Bayek, is a Medjay, the Egyptian equivalent to a sheriff or police officer. Bayek is a kind, strong man and father, who...

As 2017 winds down, like most cinephiles, we’re looking to get our hands on the titles that may have slipped under the radar or simply gone unseen. With the proliferation of streaming options, it’s thankfully easier than ever to play catch-up, and to assist with the process, we’re bringing you a rundown of the best titles of the year available to watch.
Curated from the Best Films of 2017 So Far list we published for the first half of the year, it also includes films we’ve enjoyed the past few months and some we’ve recently caught up on. This is far from a be-all, end-all year-end feature (that will come at the end of the year), but rather something that will hopefully be a helpful tool for readers to have a chance to seek out notable, perhaps underseen, titles from the year.
Note that we’re going by U.

Legends Of Tomorrow delivers a rare disappointing episode in Zari. Spoilers ahead in our review...

Here's the problem with Legends Of Tomorrow: when your premise is this packed with ridiculousness, your margin for error is pretty slim. The show has been incredibly strong for the better part of two seasons, but it's still fundamentally a show about a group of goofball time travellers played as an action comedy, and that road is full of pitfalls. Time travel is fundamentally terrible. Comedy is really hard. And stuffing dialogue into both of those themes, even separately, has the potential to be wooden, stilted, too infodumpy or just lazy.
