‘X-Men ’97’ was released last week, and the first impressions are overwhelmingly positive, with both fans and critics enjoying the first two episodes. The show has seen historical success, premiering with a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. The future looks bright for Marvel animation.
Despite the show being heavily influenced and a continuation of the ’90s ‘X-Men: The Animated Series’ some elements of the show were tweaked and changed while trying to stay faithful to the original characters, stories, and animation. One aspect of the show that’s been met with some degree of backlash is the fact that Morph is non-binary in the show.
If you’re not familiar with the character in the comics, Morph’s superpower is basically shapeshifting, where the inspiration for making him non-binary came from in the first place. J.P. Karliak, the actor who voices Morph on the show recently discussed the fan backlash with Cbr.

Prehistoric creatures don’t come much more iconic than the Tyrannosaurus rex. There’s a reason why it’s called the “king”—the giant Cretaceous carnivore has been capturing people’s imaginations for over a century, cementing itself in pop culture in the early 1990s thanks to a scene-stealing performance in Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. So, recreating the T-Rex for Life on Our Planet was no mean feat. “It’s possibly the most charismatic animal that’s ever lived,” says the series’ lead scientific researcher, Dr. Tom Fletcher. “And in many people’s eyes, it’s the most impressive animal that’s ever lived as well. So it’s some job to bring it up to date and to really do it justice.”

The Malaysian National Film Development Corporation (Finas), the government-backed agency that oversees the country’s film industry, has dismissed its CEO Nasir Ibrahim after less than two years in the job. It follows the return of Kamil Othman who was appointed chairman in February.
Finas notification
The latest move was announced on the organization’s Facebook page, along with the appointment of Rozita Waty Ridzuan as Finas interim CEO until a permanent replacement is found.
The notice was vague on the reasons for Ibrahim’s early termination, explaining that it was part of a wider recalibration of creative industry policies. “This initiative will hopefully further help Malaysian filmmakers and industry players to produce quality films that have high value in both local and international markets,” the statement said.

Victor Nieuwenhuijs and Maartje Seyferth's bizarre, chilling little character drama Meat certainly covers all the bases. Nearly every major synonym, metaphor or other interpretation of that one word is in there somewhere. Mostly it seems to be about people who've lost, or think they've lost the capacity for emotional attachment - obsessing over the flesh versus the spirit, if you like - but Meat also looks at appetite in general, the way our carnal impulses overrule our better judgement, and what these things can drive us to do. Some of this comes out through how characters communicate, but while there's no graphic violence as such it's a pretty explicit film - plenty of the human body on display, as well as animal carcasses hacked to...

Each year the Sitges Film Festival commercial spot is almost as eagerly awaited by the general public as its lineup, and Rafa Antón, creative director of the China agency and the man responsible for its campaigns over the last ten years, has presented this year’s commercial, entitled "Alter Ego". When killer Dutch writer/director Maartje Seyferth came up with the concept for Meat, she must have seriously pondered Matthew’s admonition about the flesh being weak in the face of temptation.
And then dropped some acid.
Or she may have considered the wisdom of Oscar Wilde, who claimed the only way to deal with temptation was to give into it.
In Meat, both ideas work, and both are explored. The resultant story is a stunningly rich study of sex and death, pleasure and pain, fantasy and reality – as well as one of the most imaginative damnations of the animal industry you’ll ever experience. Yes, butchers are a tradition that goes back to the domestication of animals, but a butcher is also a metaphor for cruel and deadly people,...
