And Brutus makes four. In a week filled with Hunger Games casting news, Lionsgate has released the name of the latest actor to join the cast of the The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, pegging Bruno Gunn as the former games victor who volunteers to go back to the Arena and hunt for blood.
The sequel sends previous game victors Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark on a “Victor’s Tour” of Panem’s 12 districts, during which Katniss notices the birth of a rebellion and President Snow announces the 75th Annual Hunger Games. However, these Games will bring new dangers and unexpected challenges that will drag Katniss and Peeta back to the Arena and test everything they know about themselves and each other.
Like Meta Golding (who was cast yesterday as his fellow District 2 victor Enobaria), Gunn is a bit of an unknown to most audiences. He’s played small roles as police officers,...

It was inevitable, really. One of the quirkier pilots this season, ABC's Edgar Floats is getting reconceived. It's a shame as the pilot, from creator Rand Ravich (Life) was one of the few beacons of hope (and creativity) in a season that's otherwise overflowing with formulaic procedurals and tired professional-based genres (doctor, lawyer, cop) rather than genuine originality. Other than Robert Patrick, the entire cast--including the perfectly cast Tom Cavanagh and Alicia Witt--will be replaced and the potential series--which received an order for six additional scripts--will likely be refashioned to be less edgy, less quirky, less smart. In other words, all of the very things that made it stand out from the pack in the first place. I had the chance to watch the original pilot for Edgar Floats a few weeks back (after loving the pilot script) and instantly fell head over heels in love with it, raving...

Welcome to your Tuesday morning television briefing. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello is reporting that Rand Ravich's ABC drama pilot Edgar Floats, which recently received an order for six additional scripts, will be completely reconceived, with nearly all of the original cast--including series leads Tom Cavanagh and Alicia Witt and supporting players Derek Webster, Alex Solowitz, and Raoul Trujillo--getting the axe. (Only Robert Patrick will remain.) Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, meanwhile, has some further insight into the decision made by ABC. "People have been divided on Cavanagh's performance, while Patrick has been almost universally hailed as the pilot's scene stealer," she writes. "I hear ABC brass like the idea of Edgar Floats and the central character but the project is being re-conceived, with the six additional scripts still being written." [Editor: seeing as Edgar Floats was my favorite broadcast pilot of the development cycle, I'm gutted by this news.] (Entertainment Weekly's Ausiello Files, Deadline) Mekia Cox (90210) has been cast in Jj Abrams and Josh Reims' upcoming NBC drama series Undercovers,...

· There are pilot recastings and then there are pilot recasting massacres -- and today's news about ABC's drama pilot Edgar Floats falls into the latter. The network ordered six scripts from writer Rand Ravich and is considering Edgar for midseason pickup... with an almost entirely different cast. That means that lead Tom Cavanagh (R.I.P. Ed) as well as co-stars Alicia Witt, Derek Webster, Alex Solowitz and Raoul Trujillo have all been forcibly removed from the project. Robert Patrick is the only actor remaining on the series, about a police psychologist-turned bounty hunter. [Deadline]

ABC has reportedly decided to completely revamp its pilot Edgar Floats. The network recently ordered more scripts from the show, which follows a police psychologist who works as a bounty hunter at night. Entertainment Weekly says that ABC is now planning to change the pilot and make alterations to the cast. Tom Cavanagh, who had the lead role, is expected (more)...

Last month, ABC’s drama pilot Edgar Floats received a second lease on life with a six-script order that came days after the project missed the cut for a pre-upfront series order by ABC. But if the drama from writer Rand Ravich gets to a new production order (it is eyed for a potential midseason series pickup), it will be with almost entirely new cast. Of the actors in the original pilot, which was directed by Jace Alexander, only co-star Robert Patrick is staying on as all the others have been released. That includes star Tom Cavanagh, co-stars Alicia Witt and Derek Webster [...]...

There’s retooling a pilot, and then there’s gutting a pilot. ABC and Warner Bros. are choosing to do the latter with Edgar Floats, the highly touted character-driven procedural from Life creator Rand Ravich and starring Tom Cavanagh.
Although reps for ABC and Warner Bros. declined comment, sources confirm that the network and studio have jointly decided to part ways with nearly the entire cast, including Cavanagh and costars Alicia Witt, Derek Webster, Alex Solowitz, and Raoul Trujillo. That leaves Robert Patrick as the only Edgar thesp still attached to the show.

ABC passed on its drama pilot "Edgar Floats" at the upfronts, but the show isn't dead yet.
The network has asked to see six more scripts from creator Rand Ravich ("Life"), an indication that the show could figure into ABC's plans for midseason or beyond, Deadline.com reports. The pilot stars Tom Cavanagh ("Ed," "Trust Me") as a police psychologist who starts moonlighting as a bounty hunter for his ex-father-in-law (Robert Patrick), who's a bail bondsman. Alicia Witt plays Edgar's ex-wife.
ABC already has a crowded slate for next season: It announced the pickup of 10 new series last week, including three (drama "Off the Map" and comedies "Mr. Sunshine" and "Happy Endings") for midseason.
- ABC is also reaching back into its vaults for a possible new version of its 1970s series "Charlie's Angels."
The network and Sony Pictures TV have hired "Smallville" creators Miles Millar and Al Gough to...

And you thought pilot season was over! Despite not placing Edgar Floats on its fall schedule, ABC has ordered six additional scripts of the crime procedural from creator Rand Ravich. Some observers worried that the pilot -- which stars Tom Cavanagh as a police psychologist-turned-bounty hunter -- was too character driven and quirky for network television, but since this is the same network that actually aired Eli Stone, clearly normal rules are out the window. Don't be surprised when you start seeing ads for Edgar Floats around midseason. [Deadline]...

Exclusive: ABC’s drama pilot Edgar Floats is living up to its name, staying afloat despite missing the cut for a series order from the network this week. ABC has ordered six additional scripts from the project, from Warner Bros. TV and writer Rand Ravich. Edgar Floats stars Tom Cavanagh as a police psychologist who becomes a bounty hunter. Both Ravich’s script and the pilot directed by Jace Alexander received good marks but some suggested Edgar might be too quirky and character driven for broadcast and feels more like a cable series. There were even some rumblings that the pilot could [...]...

Tom Cavanagh has landed the title role in the highly regarded ABC pilot Edgar Floats, sources confirm to me exclusively. The character-driven procedural, from Life creator Rand Ravich, finds the former Ed star playing a police psychologist who moonlights as a bounty hunter. "Edgar understands everyone but himself," explains Ravich. "Because of a personal financial crisis, Edgar is forced to leave the safety of his office and enter the dangerous world of fugitive recovery." The cast also includes Robert Patrick and Alicia Witt.

It’s no secret we love TV. We watch it, talk about it, review it and generally spend a lot of time with it. So, it should come as no surprise we’re very interested in what new shows may potentially be coming to the networks in the near future.
Fortunately, we don’t have to do a lot of work to find out, and you have to do even less, because the guys and gals at EW have gathered together lists of all of the 2010-2011 season pilot orders for ABC, CBS and NBC. Wasn’t that nice of them? Yes, yes it was.
Just between these three networks (we’ll bring you Fox and the others, including cable, later), 31 dramas and 29 comedies are being considered. What shows will make it to the Fall schedule is still anyone’s guess, and we’ll have to wait until May to find out,...

The jury's still out on the future of some ABC series (we're looking at you, FlashForward and V), but the network is already hard at work on a contingency plan: It's developing 11 new dramas for fall, including fresh projects from uber-producer Jerry Bruckheimer and Grey's Anatomy honcho Shonda Rhimes. And there's good news coming out of the network's laugh department: the success of Wednesday night series Cougar Town, The Middle, and Modern Family has prompted ABC to continue spending big bucks on more comedies -- thus its decision to order 12 half-hour pilots this year. Here are the network's fall pilots,...
