Sandrine Kiberlain stars with Kacey Mottet Klein, Corentin Fila, and Alexis Loret.
This will be the fifth Techiné film that Strand distributes after Wild Reeds, The Girl On The Train, Witnesses and Unforgivable.

It's customary for a few films to be added to the Cannes Film Festival lineup in the weeks following the initial announcement, raising cinephiles' hopes for whatever big-name prospect was left out to begin with -- and usually dashing them. A further six films were added today, the highest-profile of which is another French title: André Téchiné's "In the Name of My Daughter," starring Guillaume Canet and Catherine Deneuve. The Cannes Film Festival has named the jury for its 67th edition, comprising eight world cinema names from China, Korea, Denmark, Iran, the Us, France and Mexico.

The San Francisco Film Society steps up to a radically reduced reality of foreign film distribution by programming a number of focused mini-fests, including Hong Kong Cinema, Taiwan Film Days, and the upcoming New Italian Cinema. While contemplating the ten-film line-up of French Cinema Now, I asked myself how many French films I’d seen in the past year locally, in general release, outside of film festivals. Practically none – most notably, Andre Techine’s 2011 “Unforgivable,” starring Andre Dussolier and Carole Bouquet, set in Venice, which played a couple of weeks at a Landmark Theater in Berkeley. At the moment there are no French films in general release in the Bay Area (“The Intouchables,” which premiered at the San Francisco International Film Festival in the spring, can be found at a few far-flung second-run houses), so the fifth Sffs annual program offered not only a welcome opportunity for the Francophile cinephile.

Andre Téchiné's upcoming film "Unforgivable" will hit theaters on June 29, but Indiewire has an exclusive look at the poster for the film. The film screened at last year's Cannes Film Festival and was picked up by Strand Releasing last November. Téchiné's film follows a writer (Andre Dussolier) and his relationship with a much younger real estate agent (Carole Bouquet). The film travels through time from their initial meeting to when they are married a short while later. The couple rents a home on an island near Venice and interacts with family, friends, ex-lovers and old acquaintances. I think my favorite thing in Le Havre, Aki Kaurismäki's blend of fable-style plotting, classical studio storytelling, and a real world context and social message, has little to do with this unusual mix of several usual kinds of films. It is, instead, lead actor’s André Wilms voice, the tenor of his line readings; a hilarious and moving collaboration between Wilms and Kaurismäki's direction, lending his spoken words a clipped, positive upward inflection in his sentences that gives the ends of lines a quality of affirmation, an enthusiastic aphorism, the punch line to a joke. My favorite instance of this is when Wilms is visiting his wife (Kati Outinen) in the hospital. He brings red flowers and she remarks that the moment she leaves the house he starts spending money. He counters, saying they were cheap, pauses, and then rushes through “Who am I kidding? They were the most expensive.

The project reunites Richter with director Ari Folman who previously collaborated with the composer on the Academy Award-nominated animated documentary Waltz with Bashir. The film is an adaptation of the novella The Congress from sci-fi writer Stanislaw Lem (Solaris) and will be half live action and half 2D animation. Robin Wright stars as a struggling actress who is offered one last job by a major studio. They want to scan her body, own her image and likeness and use it anyway they want, with the catch being that she will never be able to act again. Paul Giamatti, Harvey Keitel, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Danny Huston are co-starring. The film isn’t expected to be completed before 2012 or 2013.

Dominique Abel, Fiona Gordon and Bruno Romy's La Fee (The Fairy) will open this year's Directors' Fortnight on May 12 and Bouli Lanners's Les Géants (The Giants) will close it on May 22. Here's how the full lineup of 25 films pans out.
The Fairy. From MK2: "Dom works the night shift in a small hotel near the industrial sea port of Le Havre. One night, a woman arrives with no luggage and no shoes. Her name is Fiona. She tells Dom she is a fairy and grants him three wishes. Fiona makes two wishes come true, then mysteriously disappears. Dom, who by then has fallen in love with Fiona searches for her everywhere and eventually finds her. In the psychiatric hospital where she has been interned. The filmmakers behind the critically acclaimed Iceberg and Rumba are back to enchant the world."

The final Cannes sidebar of new feature films to unveil its lineup, the Directors' Fortnight (Quinzaine des Réalisateurs), announced 25 features this morning - 21 competing, and 4 special screenings. This year's edition is especially heavy on European films, which take up a whopping 17 of the 21 competing slots. Just like the Critic's Week selection, we've got a majority of debut films and films by little known directors, but also a handful of names that most cinephiles will already be familiar with. This is, of course, part of the pleasure of discovery in these sections: the ability to be taken completely by surprise (ie. last year's Two Gates of Sleep and Le Quattro Volte) that you don't get with finding a masterpiece in the Competition. The lineup for the Cannes film festival has been finalised with the announcement of the Directors' Fortnight and Critics' Week programmes. The two strands operate independently of the Palme d'Or competition that was announced last week.
Few of the selected film-makers look likely to excite the paparazzi on the Cannes red carpet. The best known name in the Directors' Fortnight selection is probably veteran French film-maker André Téchiné with an adaptation of Philippe Djian's novel Impardonnables, about a writer whose daughter disappears, while the Critics' Week finds room for new films by Shotgun Stories director Jeff Nichols and Jonathan Caouette, maker of Tarnation.
One title that seems likely to spark controversy, however, is the Critics' Week selection Hanotenet (aka The Slut), directed by and starring Israeli Hagar Ben Asher, about a woman compulsively seeking sexual gratification.

With his sophomore feature, which Cineuropa reports has began lensing up until the first week of January, Pierre Schoeller is moving from a portrait of extreme poverty in his directing debut to extreme callousness in what appears to be current day politico France. L’Exercice de l’Etat will see veteran actors Olivier Gourmet and Michel Blanc will topline the pic while actors Zabou Breitman and Laurent Stocker are the supporting players. Gist: Scripted by Schoeller, the film centres on Transport Minister Bertrand Saint-Jean (Gourmet) and his private secretary (Blanc). It opens with the latter waking the former in the middle of the night to tell him that a coach has left the road in an accident. "How many fatalities? Any children? Let’s go. We have no choice." Thus begins the odyssey of a statesman in an increasingly complex and hostile world. Fast pace, power struggles, chaos, economic crisis…...
