They determine that the gaping head wound was created by the trunk of a '56 Bel Air, but the car they show when checking for evidence is a '57 as evidenced by the larger pointed tail fins.

In Season 1, episode 19, Caroline Julian meets Brennan for the first time. This episode supposes that they've met during their first case.
Hodgins assumes that maple wood points to the use of a baseball bat. However, ash is the most common wood used for bats, followed by hickory. Hard maple - derived from the sugar maple tree - is sometimes used but has a tendency to shatter. Ash would have been a better first assumption for bat material, making Hodgins' speculation less likely a source of maple splinters.
Brennan strikes Zack with a baseball bat on the lower left side of his abdomen then states that the blow would have caused hemorrhaging to the liver followed by death. A person's liver is located on the right side of the body. A "liver shot" in boxing is a punch to the right side or right rear of the recipient's lower torso and is often disabling.
Brennan says that Booth is a "direct" descendant of John Wilkes Booth, but John Wilkes Booth had no offspring.
