A Fine Retrospective And/Or Introduction To The Characters Of Steve Coogan.
meddlecore27 January 2023
Steve Coogan: The Inside Story is a docu-comedy about British character comedian Steve Coogan, directed by Ben Wheatley (Ideal, A Field In England, Kill List), and featuring Coogan himself, in one of his roles, as narrator.

His comedy co-conspirators Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves, also take on numerous character roles, whom, alongside a few other commentators, offer their opinions of Steve, while helping to navigate his career, as a British TV comedy legend.

Being a Canadian, I wasn't too familiar with Coogan, off the bat.

But he is a damn funny dude...clearly taking inspiration from the Monty Python comedians of old...while acting as an inspiration for (or at least contemporary of) people like Sascha Baren Cohen (or Michael Myers, if you are Canadian).

I wasn't expecting much from this doc when I went into it, but was pleasantly surprised.

As Coogan was able to morph into a wide variety of different characters and roles...leaving the man, himself, to get lost in the mix.

This will probably be enjoyed most by those already exposed to British comedy television.

But can certainly be enjoyed by all, if you were looking for an introduction to all characters Coogan, like I was.

6 out of 10.
