When Lee Sung Jin’s limited series Beef wrapped production back in 2022, the cast and crew were so happy with the profound camaraderie they’d developed that they’ve attempted to meet for dinner at least once a week ever since — some irony for a story originally borne out of anger and resentment.
Some time ago, pre-Beef, Lee found himself angrily tailing a driver in a road rage incident for nearly an hour. When he happened to tell Ravi Nandan, A24’s head of television, about this moment of madness, Nandan suggested Lee might expand on it. Was there more story to tell?
The complex and personal stories behind two strangers clashing with such vitriol eventually evolved into Lee’s limited series. At turns hilarious and disturbing, it follows the lives of Amy (Ali Wong) and Danny (Steven Yeun) as they enter into an intense feud that is, in truth,...

For a world grown weary of familiar superheroes, fear not! A new hero is on the way — and he’s made out of poop.
The Excreman — On the Road is the working title of a new production from Hong Kong’s Bliss Concepts, the company that produced the massive McDull franchise in the early 2000s, and it’s been among the most talked about productions at this year’s Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (Haf) program.
“It’s a story about life in the sewer, and how the creatures there are fighting to survive,” says producer and Bliss Concepts general manager Samuel Choy. “They create an Exreman hero to save them but when he becomes human he discovers life among the humans is the same as it was in the sewers.”

Most Social Capital Lost in 10 Minutes: Jo Koy Jo Koy
Proverbial gun to head, few awards show aficionados could name a more embarrassing monologue than Jo Koy’s turn at the 2024 Golden Globes — a slow-motion car wreck that will live in infamy for the crickets and cringes he drew from his A-list audience. Fellow comics have pointed to the emcee’s absence of established rapport with the crowd as reason for his undoing, but the fact remains that his big moment at bat was so bad, it even broke Taylor Swift’s iron curtain of composure.
Most Categorically Confusing Categories: Adapted vs. Original Screenplay Barbie and Leonard Bernstein
The Film Academy left many scratching their heads when Barbie, a script based on a doll with no backstory, was deemed an adaptation in the Oscar race — while Maestro, a biopic drawing on the well-documented life of Leonard Bernstein, was permitted to compete as an original work.

The TV audience may be in decline, but a passionate community of amateurs has been monitoring every tremor of buzz long before the ceremony
Jason Turer has been an Oscars obsessive since he was a teenager. The first Academy Awards he watched was the controversial 1999 ceremony, when Shakespeare in Love took home the best picture gong over Saving Private Ryan; since 2001, he’s attempted to predict Oscar nominees and winners every year. For many Oscars fans, predictions often take the form of, say, an office sweep or game between friends; others might make a list in their notes app and check off correct predictions on the night.
But for the past 10 years, 36-year-old Turer has been predicting the Oscars competitively on the industry blog and fansite Gold Derby – an outlet for awards season fanatics to score points based on their predictions in a game that combines the frivolous glitz of the Oscars with the obsessive,...

One construction worker was killed in a building collapse in the Borough Park neighborhood of Brooklyn on Friday afternoon, local news outlets reported. But the tragic accident led misinformation accounts and conspiracy theorists on X (formerly Twitter) to falsely claim the incident had taken place in Crown Heights, concocting a wholly fake story about the tunnel beneath the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights suddenly caving in.
As the Borough Park commotion drew hordes of emergency responders, social media vultures went to work, misrepresenting the footage of ambulances, firefighters,...

Dave is taking a break.
There are “no current plans” for a fourth season of the Fxx comedy as co-creator and star Dave Burd “presses pause” to focus on other things.
Burd, otherwise known as Lil Dicky, has long talked about his music career and wanting to record more albums. Penith, the soundtrack to Dave, featuring the single “Mr. McAdams,” was released last month.
“Making Dave has been and continues to be a dream come true,” he said. “But there are other creative ventures that I am dying to pursue as well. For the past 5 years, I’ve poured every fiber of my being into the show, and after three amazing seasons, this feels like a good time to press pause to give myself the bandwidth to do some of the other things I have always wanted to do. I am beyond excited about what I have planned for the...

I hope you’re sitting down. A Bachelor contestant has been called out for their racist past. In recent seasons it’s become a predictable part of the show’s meta-drama, and this year it happened in record time.
Less than 24 hours ago, Greer Blitzer, who won Zach Shallcross’ first impression rose, was posting pictures of rose-frosted confections, seemingly to celebrate the Monday night premiere of Season 27. We're way beyond the days of calling "P-Valley" a TV series just about strippers. Katori Hall's acclaimed Starz drama reached breakout success after its first season aired in the summer of 2020, largely because it created a raw yet empowering space for strip-club culture to be seen in a way that's rarely displayed on television. But the show accomplished so much more than that in season two.
"P-Valley" took braver steps with its second installment to depict issues far too complex to be contained inside a small-town, neon-lit club, aka The Pynk - including poverty, politics, sexual identity, systemic racism, domestic violence, misogyny, and a pandemic. "The second season is crafted better in terms of dramatic construction," Hall tells Popsugar. "That feeling of, 'Oh my God, what's going to happen next?' Being overwhelmed, I think, is very much a part of the feeling of season two."

Abigail Breslin is mourning the loss of her father this holiday season. On Christmas Eve, the Zombieland actress, 25, opened up about her experience during the "holiday-grief season" in an emotional post about missing her dad, Michael Breslin, on Instagram. Breslin's father passed away in February due to complications from Covid-19 at age 78. In a Notes app screenshot, Breslin called the holiday "a weird one for me," adding, "I love the holiday season and am so thankful I get to spend it with my mom, my brothers, my friends and my boyfriend... I'm truly blessed. But it's hard to know I can't call my daddy and wish him a merry...
