Towards the end of the episode, McGrady is shown to be carrying a revolver for his service weapon instead of the Glock models the other characters carry. This shows how long McGrady's service lasted, as during the 80's the LAPD moved away from allowing revolvers towards semi-auto pistols, though some precincts allowed officers from before the change to continue with their original service weapons.
Officer Jerry McGrady has 8 uniform sleeve stripes or "Hash" marks on the forearm of his uniform. Each mark represents a period of service (time on the job) competed. In the LAPD each mark represents 3 years of service completed. So he would have completed 24 or more years of service but not more than 27 years (more would mean 9 hash marks). In NY the "Hash" marks represent 5 years of service. So this character would have over 40 years of service.
Guest star Peter Onorati who plays Officer McGrady is famous for playing another cop. He previously starred as SWAT officer James Mumford in the 2017 reboot of the S.W.A.T TV series before leaving at the middle of Season 4. And was Detective Vincent LaRusso in COP ROCK.
Nathan Fillion (John Nolan) and guest star Sean Gunn star together in The Suicide Squad (2021) as T.D.K. and Weasel respectively. Pete Davidson who plays Pete Nolan, John Nolan's half brother on The Rookie, also stars in The Suicide Squad (2021) as Blackguard.
At the beginning of the episode Grey and Bradford are talking about Jerry McGrady: BRADFORD Guy's been a cop since E.T. phoned home. "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial" is a 1982 Steven Spielberg film.
