Excellent TV and a great 2nd episode
In this episode we see a finalisation of the setup of the premiss, the introduction of all relevant characters with sets and stakes. What a lot of shows do not manage to do in 10 episodes this show have now done in 2.
Of course setting up the board, setting up characters, and introducing us to this world create a few pacing issues and new question marks. However the acting is so good and the story so compelling that we barely notice.
There are so many ways they can develop this story and the setup of this world is so great that they can build upon this for years. However therein also lay the challenge - it is so easy to get lazy as a writer/director and it is so easy copy pasting from other successful shows to build the same narrative as we have seen 100s of times before. I am certain there are showrunners or executives contemplating doing so at this very second. Hopefully they will not get their way and we will continue to see something which is decently new and decently fresh as this show have been so far.
I have a few questions about how the mafia act or do things in certain ways, and those two cops I feel hesitant about. I also hope they do not milk her son and his illness 24/7 in every episode, because that will get old quickly. But overall this is excellent TV and one of my favourite current running. This far I highly recommend with a strong 8/10.
