Natalie Portman may be an outspoken feminist and co-founder of a female-driven soccer club (Angel City Fc), but she isn’t a believer in the so-called “female gaze.”
In an interview with Vanity Fair France for the magazine’s 10-year anniversary issue, conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike, Portman argued that “to say that a female director has a particular gaze is reductive of women’s individuality and points of view.”
The Harvard-educated actor also said that gender isn’t a factor when she chooses projects. “Female directors should have the same opportunities as their male counterparts. But the experience of working with a director has to do with the individual and it doesn’t relate to gender,” Portman said.
Portman, who recently relocated to Paris with her husband Benjamin Millepied and their two children, also discussed her upcoming project “May December,” directed by Todd Haynes.

Benjamin Elalouf’s Moonshaker, the Paris-based banner behind Netfix’s popular documentary “Lords of Scam,” has joined forces with TF1-owned Newen to expand its scope, and is developing Noé Debré’s “The Last of the Jews,” among other director-driven projects.
“The Last of the Jews” will mark the anticipated feature debut of Debré, the critically acclaimed co-screenwriter of “A Prophet” and “Stillwater,” whose latest short film “On n’est pas des animaux” — also produced by Moonshaker — competed at this year’s Sundance.
A burlesque bittersweet comedy, “The Last of the Jews” will be headlined by a strong French cast including Agnes Jaoui and Michael Zindel.
Set to start shooting in March, the movie takes place in an underprivileged suburb on the outskirts of Paris and revolves around a 27-year-old Jewish man, Bellisha, who lives with his mother, Giselle. The suburb has seen the synagogue shut down, and now the...

Measurement replaces previous system reporting who watched at least two minutes of content in first 28 days.
Netflix has launched top 10 lists reporting its most popular films and shows around the world based on its new metric measuring hours viewed.
Starting today (November 16) the metric on Top10.netflix replaces the streamer’s previous measurement which recorded the number of accounts that watched at least two minutes of a piece of content in its first 28 days on the platform.
That system was frequently criticised for failing to reveal a meaningful picture of viewership, cherry picking highlights and not reporting who watched shows in their entirety.

With its list of new releases for November 2021, Netflix will attempt to bravely step into a post-Squid Game world. Helping it in that mission is a diverse array of original series and films.

It’s the live-action version of an animated classic, however, that might be Netflix’s crown jewel this month. Cowboy Bebop premieres on Nov. 19 and based on the first trailer, it will maintain the spirit of the beloved anime. And speaking of big hits, Tiger King 2 is set to arrive on Nov. 17.
