Emmy-winning actress Genie Francis will be featured as a Special Guest Star during the upcoming third season of the hit comedy web series Pretty. Pretty The Series creator Steve Silverman is not saying what role Francis will be playing, but will say she will be featured in several episodes and is playing a major new character.
Francis, best known as Laura from General Hospital, is currently playing Genevieve on The Young And The Restless. Her other soap roles include Ceara on All My Children and Diana on Days Of Our Lives. She has also appeared in a number of primetime series and films including the hugely successful Taking a Chance on Love on Hallmark in 2009.
Silverman hints there will be a scene, or two or three, between Francis' Pretty character and Denise Alexander, which would be a huge treat for fans who loved them as mother and daughter on General Hospital.

Mixing Comedy & Soap: A History of the Serialized Situation Comedy
By Doug Prinzivalli
As one of the producers of the hit web series Pretty - a parody hybrid of reality TV and soaps - I thought it would be a fun idea to take a brief look at the long history of the serialized situation comedy. The idea of mixing comedy with soap elements is not a new one - in fact it started over 60 years ago.
The First Hundred Years (CBS 1950-52) was a mildly humorous daily soap about newlyweds who are gifted with a bat-infested Victorian mansion. Sounds pretty wacky to me. After less than two years, it was replaced by something called The Guiding Light.
The Egg & I (CBS 1951-52) Based on a book by Betty MacDonald and the 1947 film (starring Claudette Colbert and Fred MacMurray) that followed, this show followed the misadventures of city folk...

She also revealed how her guest appearance on the web series Pretty came about. In Part Three below, Alexander talks about leaving Gh, joining Another World, and returning to Port Charles many years later.
We Love Soaps TV: In 1984 the character of Lesley was killed off General Hospital. Was it your choice to leave at that point?
Denise Alexander: I had been working a long time. I had a very strong contract and the network was cutting back on a lot of people and guarantees where you were going to get paid even if you didn't do the episodes. They were letting people go but they offered me a raise.

Legendary actress Denise Alexander performed in over 2500 radio shows in New York starting at age 6, and was part of the transition from radio to television 60 years ago. In the 1950s she appeared in numerous primetime shows as a teenager, and in 1960 made her television soap debut on the West Coast in The Clear Horizon. Following a stint on Ben Jerrod she was cast in the breakthrough role of Susan Hunter Martin on Days Of Our Lives. In 1973 General Hospital was able to sign her to a contract as Lesley Webber, a role she's played on and off ever since. Earlier this year she was named on of the 50 Greatest Soap Actress of All-Time by our panel of critics. In 2010 she's part of another transition, from television to the internet, as she will be guest starring on the upcoming second season of the hilarious web series Pretty. Allison Strong, Union City, N.J."April showers bring May flowers." Imagine that phrase was a song that summed up the rainbow highs and lows of my past year. Press play. On April 30, 2009, I lost my grandmother—one of the biggest loves of my life and the Auntie Mame of my small family. A few weeks before Christmas 2008, she suffered two strokes that left her completely paralyzed, and six months later a third one took her from us. Mamita, as we all lovingly called her, was a youthful 94 years old. Now stop and press repeat. On April 9, I lost my 13-year-old sheepdog-terrier mutt, Magic, to prostate cancer. We had known since July that his cancer was aggressive, but since he outlived the local vet's expectations, we shrugged it off as a misdiagnosis. But after an impromptu visit to my veterinarian cousin Marcy in Brooklyn the first week of April, my...

Pretty explores the dysfunctional world of child pageants where Michael Champagne, a proud pageant dad, has the single wish to see his 5 year old daughter Annette win the Miss Star Eyes Pageant. The cast of characters are hilariously flawed, the universe they exist in like a trainwreck you can't take your eyes off of... ...and Annette is played by a 30 plus year old actress, played to naive perfection by Stace McQueen. Tubefilter spoke with show creator Steve Silverman about what inspired him to make this unique casting decision. "Stace McQueen and I have known each other for almost 20 years," explained Silverman. "She's been my muse in several theatre projects and I've acted (I use that term lightly) for her in some of her own web stuff. When I first saw Painted Babies-type documentaries, it just popped into my head: I sit in a chair and Stace sits in my lap,...

If you can't turn away from Toddlers and Tiaras, then you'll love Pretty, a new web series from out writer/director Steve Silverman. The project is set in the sick, sparkly world of kiddie beauty pageants. Our own Dennis Hensley attended the show's L.A. premiere and learned that comedy may not be pretty, but Pretty sure is funny.
Dennis talks with Silverman and his cast, including actor Sam Pancake, who you might remember from the brilliant but all too brief Lifetime series Lovespring International.
Check it out after the break!
