Great documentary on the Red Dirt scene
jreed-725-87423929 April 2010
I saw the premiere of this doc at the Woody Guthrie Festival in Okemah, Oklahoma a few years ago. Great introduction to the Red Dirt scene with performances by the Red Dirt Rangers, No Justice, Johnny Cooper, and Wade Bowan, among others. Great interviews with the late, great Bob Childers, John Cooper, Cody Canada, Wade Bowan, etc. Red Dirt music is a special blend of Oklahoma/ Texas music that has elements of country, rock, folk, and bluegrass. It truly does not sound like anything coming out of Nashville. The performers are all very down-to-earth guys that write and play from the heart. Like John Cooper from the Red Dirt Rangers once told me, "Red Dirt is a state of mind." Yes indeed Coop, it sure is. If you're not familiar with Red Dirt music, this is a great place to start!
