“I’m not surprised,” says British-Egyptian actor Amir El-Masry on the recent news that hit BBC drama “Sas Rogue Heroes” has been picked up for a second season. “Steve [Steven Knight, the show’s writer and executive producer] is incredible and so is Tom Shankland [the show’s director]. He [Shankland] brought a really refreshing take on the story, he’s brought it to a modern audience, so I’m not surprised.”
El-Masry, who plays the fictional Dr. Gamal, is echoed by co-star Alfie Allen, who plays real-life army officer John “Jock” Lewes. “I can’t wait for season two and I think it will be an incredible experience for those involved. It’s incredibly deserved. Steven Knight is a fantastic writer and long may the ‘Sas Rogue Heroes’ train continue!” says Allen, who played Theon Greyjoy in “Game of Thrones.”

With the arrival of December comes embracing the Christmas horror subgenre. When it's good, it's good. When it's bad, you still can't turn away. There's just something about the holidays going absolutely wrong that serves as both nightmare fuel and brilliant catharsis depending on the execution. It's why holiday horror film classics like "Black Christmas" and "Gremlins" still reign supreme on many of the Best Christmas horror lists to this day.
In the case of Chris Peckover's "Better Watch Out," the Australian Christmas horror film is more than good, with its horrific subtext concerning toxic masculinity aging better with time. The film follows 17-year-old Ashley (Olivia DeJonge) who has been hired to babysit the 12-year-old boy you'll absolutely despise by the film's end, Luke (Levi Miller). Luke has a crush on Ashley and ropes his best friend into a misguided faux home-invasion plan to attempt to seduce the teen.

Life of Pi director Ang Lee has cast his 32-year-old son Mason as Bruce Lee in a new biopic.
The film, titled Bruce Lee, is currently in development, with Dan Futterman attached to the project as a screenwriter.
It will be centered around the identity and career of the renowned martial arts star.
“Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese kung fu to the world, a scientist of combat and an iconic performing artist who revolutionized both the martial arts and action cinema,” Ang Lee said told Deadline.
“I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging, possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams into reality.”
This film is reportedly a project Ang has been working on in secret for a while.

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee, known for helming ‘Life of Pi’ and ‘Brokeback Mountain’, is set to direct a film about Chinese American martial arts legend Bruce Lee.
Ang Lee’s son Mason Lee will star in the film, which is in development at Sony’s 3000 Pictures.
Dan Futterman, who wrote ‘Capote’ and ‘Foxcatcher’, is adapting the script. Jean Castelli, Alex Law and Mabel Cheung and Wells Tower wrote earlier versions of the screenplay, reports ‘Variety’.
Bruce Lee, who died in 1973 at the age of 32, had a brief but lasting presence in Hollywood as an actor, director and martial arts expert.
His films, including ‘Fist of Fury’, ‘Enter the Dragon’ and ‘The Way of the Dragon’, as well as the TV series ‘The Green Hornet’, popularised martial arts across the globe in the late 1960s and early ’70s.

Mason Lee, the son of famed filmmaker Ang Lee, will play Bruce Lee in a forthcoming film of the same name for Sony’s 3000 Pictures. Ang will direct the project from a script written by Dan Futterman. Futterman is taking over scripting duties after Jean Castelli, Alex Law, Mabel Cheung, and Wells Tower penned previous versions of the story.
It’s challenging to overestimate Lee’s astronomical impact on the martial arts film genre. Already a star in Asia, Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon catapulted his star into the stratosphere in the West. Had he lived beyond the age of 32, Lee would have achieved the success of actors like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, and more. Still, Lee is a household name despite his early passing, and few martial artists have risen to his level of notoriety since. Lee’s death was labeled “death by misadventure” by authorities,...

Following Life of Pi, released a decade ago this fall, Ang Lee dabbled in the transportive cinematic technical experiments Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk and Gemini Man that, unfortunately, failed to connect with audiences. The director is now set to return with a film that should hopefully garner some widespread attention.
Deadline reports he will direct Bruce Lee, a biopic of the legendary martial artist and actor, who will be played by Ang Lee’s own son Mason Lee. Set up at Sony Pictures and currently being scripted by Dan Futterman.
Ang Lee is no stranger to the world of martial arts with his record-breaking Oscar-winner Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. For quite some time he tried to get his 3D Muhammad Ali fight film off the ground, but it never saw the light of day, so we’ll be curious to see if any technology or planning developed for...

Before diving into this month’s edition of The Inventory, listen to last week’s discussion on horror game adaptations of film!
Welcome to another edition of The Inventory, Safe Room’s monthly review show, in which we amass some of the latest (and hopefully) greatest horror games released within a given month and discuss their merits or lack thereof.
Just as Neil and I are tackling the ever-daunting task of compiling our respective games of the year lists, another crop of titles has fallen into our laps for consideration.
From the puzzle-solving of Save Room to the horde bashing of Warhammer 40,000: Wartide to the extraterrestrial family drama of Sommerville, November has no shortage of horror and genre-adjacent titles that stood out amongst November’s healthy release schedule.

Riding on the box office success in Hong Kong of its “Table for Six,” Edko Films, the production, distribution and exhibition conglomerate headed by Bill Kong (“Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon”), is launching a trio of new titles at the American Film Market this week.
One titles is courtroom drama “A Guilty Conscience,” which follows the aftermath of a manslaughter case in which a barrister’s mistake lands his supermodel client in jail. The path to an appeal, however, seems like justice itself is on trial.
Writer and director Jack Ng is making his feature directing debut on the drama; his track record as a writer that includes Edko’s 2021 hit “Anita” and “Cold War II.” The company’s confidence is such that the picture is set as Edko’s biggest title for the crucial Chinese New Year slot. Long Story Short
Chinese filmmaker, Bi Gan, best-known for his single-take feature “Long Day’s Journey Into Night” has seen his “A Short Story” picked up by Kino Lorber for distribution in North America. A fairy tale that follows the relationship between man and cat, the film had its world premiere in competition at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival and now has its North American premiere in the Currents section of the New York Film Festival. Kino Lorber plans to qualify “A Short Story” for the 96th Academy Awards, showing it theatrically nationwide in early 2023 in tandem with a theatrical re-release of “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.” “Kino Lorber rarely acquires short films, but Bi Gan has packed more cinematic delight into the fifteen minutes of ‘A Short Story’ than many feature length films deliver in two hours,” said Kino Lorber SVP Wendy Lidell. The deal was brokered by Les Films du Losange.

“There’s an old Chinese curse: ‘May you live through interesting times.’ The sector is now going through very interesting times indeed,” Fremantle’s Manuel Marti reflected to Variety as Madrid’s 2nd Iberseries & Platino Industria, a TV-film forum, wound down on Friday, running Sept. 27-30.
Three large table talk topics were the fall out from the planned merger of HBO Max and Discover+ by Warner Bros. Discovery – with the removal of more than three dozen titles on HBO Max in August alone – Netflix’s reconfiguration of its business model and galloping inflation in Europe, threatening streamer subs, They also played out, if sometimes indirectly, at the Iberseries & Platino Industria panels.
