The monomymic Vikram is one of my favorite Indian actors. He has, over the course of 25 years, created an amazing body of work that is unlike anything else I can think of. He divides his time between mainstream masala performances, smaller more serious projects, and balls-out weirdo performances in a manner that demands respect. His latest film coming to cinema screens, Iru Mugan, appears to fall into the balls-out weirdo category.Over the last 15 years he has starred in big budget blockbusters as a multiple-personality disordered Jheri-curled vigilante in Anniyan, a chicken-suited superhero in Kanthaswamy, a mentally disabled father fighting to gain custody of his daughter in Deiva Thirumagal, and a bodybuilder cum hunchbacked avenger in I. There isn't much in the way of...

I've been waiting for Tamil blockbuster machine Shankar to impress me for several years, following the (critical) disappointment of Nanban. While Shankar's international star saw a little bit of light following the West's discovery of 2010 insane-athon Enthiran (Robot), he hasn't done anything worth noting outside of Tamil film since. It looks like that is about to change, and in a huge way.Shankar's latest project is a film titled I or Ai, depending on who you ask. The film stars Vikram, best known to Twitch readers as either the star of the chicken-suited superhero masterpiece, Kanthaswamy, or of the delirious-looking I Am Sam rip-off, Deiva Thirumagal. What you probably don't know is that Vikram is a ham of epic proportions and his performance as the...

Bejoy Nambiar burst onto the Indian film scene back in 2011 with his crime spree film, Shaitan. With the help of some pretty impressive critical reaction the film managed to more than triple its budget in box office receipts, opening some eyes at bigger production houses. Among those interested was Reliance Big Pictures, who are producing his latest effort, the bilingual triptych/diptych David. As is common in an increasingly interconnected India, David was shot simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil language versions. Most of the supporting cast is the same, however the only lead to appear in both versions is Vikram (Kanthaswamy, Deiva Thirumagal, Aniyaan). In the Hindi version he is joined by Neil Nitin Mukesh (New York, 7 Khoon Maaf) and Vinay as the trio...

The first full trailer for Chiyaan Vikram's new Kollywood masala blowout, Rajapattai is online. Vikram has been recently featured on these pages for the recent critical and box office darling, Deiva Thirumagal. This was the I Am Sam clone featuring dinosaurs attacking a colonial village and a man fighting a giant snake. Vikram is also a veteran of many high profile successful Indian blockbusters like Kanthaswamy, about a superhero in a chicken suit, and Anniyan, where he played a crazy haired serial killer.I can't quite get a grip on what Rajapattai is actually about. If you trust Wikipedia, the story either, "revolves around the issue of land grabbing and how the protagonist becomes involved in it", or, "Vikram is currently filming for Rajapattai alongside Deeksha...

South remakes are in and it isn't just Salman Khan or an Akshay Kumar or a Kareena Kapoor who are biting the bait. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Ameesha Patel have joined the bandwagon as well by signing a Hindi film which would be the remake of a Tamil superhit. Tentatively titled Shortcut Romeo, the film is a romantic thriller and would go on floors by November. "Yes, Neil and Ameesha have been signed for the remake of Tamil hit Thiruttu Payale which had done quite well on its release half a decade back. The film was in fact one of the top successes of the year and had done a business of over Rs.50 crores. It is a thriller about love and betrayal and has shocking twists and turns that audience won't see coming", informs a source. Incidentally, Neil as well as Ameesha would have grey shades to their characters.

Three big projects and everything varies from each other in genres and his roles, but powerful. Wow! That sounds quite interesting as Vikram has signed three films with various filmmakers. The first one doesn’t need an introduction as Manirathnam’s ‘Raavanan’ will speak itself by its stunning make. Both the versions feature Vikram in and as on role reversals as goodie and baddie.
His other film with Selvaraghavan has completed first schedule while his commercial entertainer with Boopathy Pandian will take off shortly. The film has been titled as ‘Vedi’ and is produced by Mohan Natarajan. The film features Vikram as a cop with an usual trait and has Tollywood’s hottie starring opposite him in female lead. The shooting is likely to start off by this month and will be completed within short span of time.
