I understand this must be hard for you.

When my friends gather to watch Three Pines we p,as a drinking game.

Each time Gamache says: I know this must be hard for you or something similar, like, I know this is a difficult time for you - we take a swig of Quebec wine.

Vignoble La Grenouille is pretty tasty.

We were pretty wasted by end of Part One.

But during Part Two we began to take interest in the miserable Morrows as we did with the Roys in Succession. Power-hungry patron of dysfunctional family forks up his children Only I kept track of Gamache empathetic tropes and woke next morning feeling need for empathy from anybody and an aspirin.

It's too bad this show suffers from clichés as Louise Penny has none in her excellent stories.

It's also too bad the producers expect to condense her books into two one-hour episodes. There should be a dozen episodes at least.

Quality that's rarely ever reached in the detective genre

Truly brilliant writing to release the show in 2 part mini mysteries. While having a long form investigation as the back bone. Every character is fleshed out with such depth. Each one with separate character flaws and motivations. Our 3 main detectives all brilliantly written and even more expertly acted. Alfred Molina must be drinking from the fountain of youth to look as good as he does at 70.

This show is a breath of fresh air in a genre that's become so lazy over the years. I did not expect a "murder on the orient express / Knives out" style mini plot line but did it deliver. Each one of these 2 parters might be stretched into their own individual seasons. But to compact them so perfectly into 2 episodes was a genius move.

Very impressed and excited for next week. I'm not sure how these detectives will be able to go against their own police force to prove Kevin's innocence.

Evil From Within

We continue to look into the messed up lives of the family and the late father who abused all of them. Everyone is rather pathetic but the guy held power over them and abused them, especially verbally. Some of the kids have made bad decisions but never received any sound advice from the man. Eventually, we are introduced to another character in the equation. We keep being drawn back to an incident where a deer has been wounded and one of the sons is asked to administer the coup de gras, but can't. This is a metaphor for what is going on now. The secondary plot is the young man who has been pursued in a previous case. And I do agree that they really acted stupidly in managing a meeting with him. I wouldn't fault the entire episode for that. I do agree that the lack of connection to Three Pines is disappointment.

So So Bad

Warning: Spoilers
I love reading the books by Louise Penny. I thought I give this series a try. The first 4 episodes were OK with the familiar characters in Three Pines.

But these last two had nothing to do with Three Pines except that two of the characters were from Three Pines and staying at the hotel where a murder has taken place.

Continuing the subplot of missing Blue Two-River. The person who has the information about her disappearance is waiting in a café. Instead of CALLING him to tell him they're on the way Gamache and Lacoste just take their time getting there. Of course he's left by the time they get there to get arrested. And, guess what, they find him dead in his cell. Sheesh.
