The real brothers Ivan and Neil McCormick made a cameo in this movie. They are the folks watching one of the first gigs in an empty bar.
Final film of Pete Postlethwaite. It was originally planned that Postlethwaite would have a larger role, but when director Nick Hamm saw how ill he was, he wrote him "a new role that allowed them to film around [his] physical needs and abilities... a very funny, ridiculous part". Three months later Postlethwaite came in to do voice work on the film. Hamm later commented: "It was very apparent when I saw him at that moment that there was no way that this guy was ever going to go on screen or stage again."
While Robert Sheehan's character in this film didn't get the chance to be part of U2, his character in the TV show Misfits (2009) managed to impersonate Bono, insulting him while doing so.
When the project was still titled "I was Bono's Doppelganer" and it was scheduled to start filming in August 2009, it had attached to star Romola Garai, Charlie Cox and Bill Nighy.
Hammond mentions getting "the other one" from the duo Wham!, but doesn't know his name. He is referring to Andrew Ridgeley.
