Embarking on a journey back to a pivotal moment in TV history, it’s hard to believe that over two decades have passed since Band of Brothers deeply engraved its narrative in the heart of popular culture. When it debuted back in 2001, the war drama miniseries—created by Steven Spielberg & Tom Hanks—became a tremendous commercial and critical hit.
The gripping story of the ‘Easy’ Company’s World War II involvement cemented HBO’s standing as a major force in television. Even though the show debuted more than 20 years ago, viewers still find it compelling. Why?
Tom Hanks’ Band of Brothers | HBO Entertainment
In a 2021 interview with Deadline, Hanks spoke about why, even after several years, the Emmy-winning series keeps enticing viewers. As he revealed, there was a time when the series seemed destined to be shrouded in uncertainty, its future hanging by a thread after a real-life tragedy (9/11 terrorist attacks) shook the world.

Adam McKay’s Hyperobject Industries is set to launch two new comedy podcasts, both humorously anchored in nature. Tiny Dinos premiered on May 7, with episodes dropping weekly on Tuesdays; and Walkin’ About on May 15, 2024, with episodes dropping weekly on Wednesdays. Both series will be available on major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music.
McKay says: “Connor, James and Allan are all very talented comedians, and Lord knows we all can use some laughter these days. But they’re also asking questions that boldly challenge the international corporate power structure like ‘What happens if I start taking regular walks?’ And ‘What would happen if we brought dinosaurs back but they were super tiny?’”
Tiny Dinos comes from the imagination of Connor Ratliff, whose Dead Eyes podcast became a fan favorite with many Hollywood actors and filmmakers, and collaborator James III. In Tiny Dinos, Ratliff takes improv to the...

There is something genuinely heartfelt about I’m ‘George Lucas’: A Connor Ratliff Story. Directed by Ryan Jacobi, the documentary tells the story of New York-based comedian Connor Ratliff and his long tenure playing “George Lucas” on The George Lucas Talk Show, an improvised, monthly comedy series designed as a late-night panel talk show in which real-life guests act as though they are conversing with the real George Lucas. The majority of performances were staged at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City. The show also gained a brand-new, expanded audience over Zoom during the pandemic.
We follow Ratliff through his routines preparing for each show, explaining his process along the way. Collaborators like Griffin Newman (who plays “Watto”) and Patrick Cotnoir (who produces the show) try explaining Ratliff to the viewer. The overall explanation seems to be that there is not much of an explanation. He...

The boundaries of the streaming world are beginning to break down: more HBO shows are officially coming to Netflix. Warner Bros has been dabbling in licensing titles out to the massive streamer for a while now, setting up a deal back in June that's already led to the Issa Rae-led comedy "Insecure" finding a new home on Netflix. Now, though, Netflix is about to have countless dads standing by the TV transfixed: two war epics from master filmmaker Steven Spielberg are set to drop on streaming on September 15, 2023.
Limited series "Band of Brothers" and "The Pacific" are new classics in their own right. The former, co-created by Spielberg and Tom Hanks, dramatizes the story of Easy Company, a parachute battalion from the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division that ended up in the thick of battle during World War II. The show was a certifiable phenomenon when it debuted,...
