Exclusive: Molly C. Quinn (Castle) and Cameron Cuffe (Krypton) have wrapped on The Weight, a psychological thriller marking the feature directorial debut of American Gods producer Sallyanne Massimini, who co-wrote the script with Thomas Care.

Shot in Ontario, Canada, with production led by Exit 44 Entertainment and Palo Pictures, the film centers on Mia (Quinn), who wakes up chained in a remote cabin, only to witness her captor, David (Cuffe), burying a body outside. We’re somehow already in the fourth quarter of 2024, but the good news is that we’re getting a new Nick Frost horror movie every month as we wrap up this year. The action horror comedy Krazy House, which JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray hated when he caught a screening at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, was given a VOD release on October 4th. The serial killer thriller Get Away will be getting a theatrical release on December 6th. And slotting in between those two is the supernatural horror movie Black Cab, which is coming our way from Shudder, Sony Pictures Television, and Stolen Pictures, and will be released through the Shudder streaming service on November 8th. One of the all-time best Jane Austen books may be getting a new version on Netflix! Over 200 years after her death, the author is as beloved as ever. Generations have grown up on her novels, which were ahead of their time, exploring issues of feminism, class, and some wonderful romances. In just six books, Austen made herself a literary icon who’s influenced countless writers since.

Not surprisingly, adaptations of Austen’s works have been plentiful. There have even been adaptations of her two posthumous novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion and her unfinished book Sanditon.

Trying to narrow down the best Austen works is difficult as many will cite Sense and Sensibility, which was adapted into a 1995 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet, with Thompson also writing the script, earning her an Oscar. Yet, to many, the topper of Austen’s works is Pride and Prejudice.

A series based on Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” is in development at Netflix, with “Everything I Know About Love” author Dolly Alderton penning the scripts.

There is no cast attached yet and the project has not been greenlit at the streamer. Netflix has a history with Austen, having adapted “Persuasion” for a 2022 movie starring Dakota Johnson.

Austen’s most famous novel, “Pride and Prejudice” follows the intelligent yet stubborn Elizabeth Bennet as she learns that love is more powerful than pride or prejudice through her relationship with Mr. Darcy, a man she initially dislikes but eventually falls for. The book, originally published in 1813, has been adapted several times for screen, perhaps most famously in the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen (pictured above) and the BBC’s 1995 miniseries with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle.

Deadline understands that a TV adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice is in the works. We are told that Everything I Know About Love creator Dolly Alderton has written the scripts and casting is still yet to be ironed out. The project from Gentleman Jack producer Lookout Point is in development and may not make it to screen.

If it does get greenlit, Pride and Prejudice will be Netflix’s first Austen adaptation since 2022’s Persuasion, which starred Dakota Johnson.

Many iconic Pride and Prejudice adaptations have been made down the years, including a movie with Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen in 2005 and the BBC’s version 10 years prior starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. The Knightley movie was recently added to Netflix’s library.

Exclusive: Sherlock star Mark Gatiss is writing and starring in a British TV drama about a bookshop owner who helps police solve crimes.

Bookish will be a six-part series for UKTV crime drama network Alibi set in post-war London in 1946. Gatiss, the co-creator of BBC shows such as Sherlock and The League of Gentlemen and Netflix/BBC’s Dracula and actor in films including Operation Mincemeat and Mission Impossible — Dead Reckoning, is the creator.

The series will follow Gabriel Book (Gatiss), an “erudite and unconventional” sleuth who cracks mysterious cases from his antiquated bookshop, using the thousands of books that line his shelves to provide him with the knowledge that he needs. Exclusive: Actors Vanessa Kirby and Arthur Darvill (Broadchurch) have signed on to narrate the audiobook version of Good Material, the second novel from writer and journalist Dolly Alderton.

The audiobook is set for UK publication on November 2 through Penguin Random House Audio ahead of the hardback publication on November 9. Darvill stars as Andy while Kirby is Jen in the novel.

From the victim’s last breath to the jury’s final verdict, “Showtrial” delves into the worlds of cocky officer Justin Mitchell; Sam Gill, an anxious defense solicitor with a reputation for winning lost causes; and Leila Hassoun-Kenny, a rigorous lawyer leading the case against the accused.

Described as an “awkward” comedy-drama, the film explores a world in which men can become pregnant. The script is from Danielle Papamichael.

Imrie plays Owen, a happy-go-lucky lad, whose reliance on the Zap App for effective contraception is disrupted when his phone battery dies. This realization triggers his fears of an unwanted pregnancy, amplified by his date’s early unannounced departure. Throughout the film, Owen grapples with a rollercoaster of emotions as he confronts the unintended consequences of his actions.

The “Morning Show” star spoke to The Independent about how a senior crew member inappropriately touched her during a past production when Powley was in her early 20s.

Exclusive: Line Of Duty star Anna Maxwell Martin and Vigil actor Shaun Evans are to headline an ITV true crime series about a woman who escapes a near-fatal relationship with a murderer.

BAFTA-winner Maxwell Martin will star as Delia Balmer, a woman who fell for murderer John Sweeney (Evans) and overcame a horrific attack to provide vital evidence in the prosecution against her former lover.

Delia Balmer (working title) is produced by ITV Studios-backed World Productions, which made Bodyguard and Line of Duty. Based on Balmer’s book Living with a Serial Killer, the four-part series is written by Nick Stevens, who penned Luke Evans drama The Pembrokeshire Murders.

Balmer, an agency nurse, met Sweeney in a London pub in 1991. His artistic, anti-establishment persona gave way to menacingly violent attacks on Balmer, during which he confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend and dumping her body in an Amsterdam canal.

Discovery has extended its rights to show the U.S. Open in 45 markets across Europe, including exclusive access in 42 territories, after reaching a new five-year agreement with the United States Tennis Association (Usta). Long-time Universal executive David O’Donoghue is stepping down from his role as the London-based head of studio for Universal International Studios, Variety can reveal.

The executive was promoted to the role in March 2022, reporting into former Hulu executive Beatrice Springborn, who was at the same time appointed president of UCP and Uis.

O’Donoghue was previously executive VP of business affairs and operations for Uis. He was upped to acting head of studio at Uis in September 2020, overseeing international operations following the surprise exit of Jeff Wachtel, and remained in the role until last March.

While working as senior leadership at Uis, O’Donoghue also served as joint managing director and chief operating officer for “Downtown Abbey” producer Carnival Films, which many consider to be one of the crown jewels in the Uis production portfolio, alongside Working Title.

Based in London, Crawford will report into Uis president Beatrice Springborn and focus on expanding the studio’s scripted slate in the U.K. and Europe. Crawford will be responsible for scouting and packaging new projects for Uis and supporting its portfolio of deals, talent and projects. She will also head up the studio’s U.K.-based creative team.

Crawford joins from Netflix, where she spent the last six years working across international original series and was one of the first content executives hired on the Netflix International Originals team.
